For this mod you will need
- the stock SHA air filter element, and
- some high flow air filter material.
The stock SHA air filter element consists of a housing and several stacked mesh screens.
Using a small flat head screw driver pry out the screens from the back, one by one. The first screen that you pry out will have larger holes than the rest of the screens. This is the screen that you will use for this mod. The screens are just pressure fitted inside the housing and can easily be pried out.
Cut a piece of metal mesh high flow filter or foam into the same shape and diameter as the screens that you just removed from the air filter housing. I purchased a cheap metal mesh high flow filter from the local dirt bike shop for 7 bucks.
Now you have everything that you need: The screen with the large holes, the housing, and the piece of high flow filter.
Insert the cut piece of high flow filter into the housing from the back so that it is up front. Then pop the screen with the large holes in behind the filter to hold it in place.
Now you have got a high flow filter with a totally stock profile.
Finish it off by using some electrical tape or RTV around the edge of the housing to keep it from vibrating out while blasting. Don't forget to upjet!
