Install Batavus seat onto Tomos
I have always wanted a Batavus long seat on my moped. Riding doubles is fun, right? Today I finally went to the hardware store with Eoban (my riding buddy) and spent about $20 on parts. Here is the results after an hour's worth of work. Enjoy.
Items Needed
- Batavus long seat
- 36" square aluminum at 3/4" thick
- (8) 1/4" bolts with washers/nuts at 1 1/2" long
- 4 1/2" x 3/4" piece of steel
- Hack-saw
- Lock-tite
- Drill with 1/4" bit (recommend hard metal)
- 11mm socket and wrench
- Sharpie marker
Steps
- First remove old seat
- Cut 36" square aluminum in half
- Measure distance between bolt holes on Bat seat (should be 3 1/4")
- Drill holes in the piece of steel so it attaches to the front mount on the moped and the bolt holes your getting ready to drill into the aluminum
- Attach that piece of steal using the single screw from previous under storage compartment
- Place the two 18" aluminum pieces at desired position. I mounted mine with the screw directly below the exposed padding on the seat (2 1/2" from the top). This allows for maximum awesomeness!
- Drill holes all the way through the rear mount (all the way) and then attach bolts. I placed the nut in the little space where it forms an upside-down triangle.
- Place Bat seat at desired location and mark the holes with the sharpie
- Attach bolts and tadah, finished!
- Now ride doubles and hold on tight. The seating height is almost exactly where the stock one sits. It may look taller, but remember the little black storage compartment is gone which helps make it look normal. I rode it around and it felt great, you can really sit back.
I added a $3 LED light under the rear mount using the bolt I just put on and a mini "L" bracket from Walmart and it works 100%. I will post it later when it's not dark out.
