My father was the original owner of these 1978 Sachs Balboa mopeds. He bought them in Reno, Nevada at the Moped Factory on Moana Lane in 1978. Frustrated by the lack of power on the hills in Tahoe, my mother and father never really rode them very much. Instead their 16 year old daughter found out how much fun it was to ride around the lake on a beautiful summer afternoon. My parents gifted me and my husband with these mopeds in 1988. Before California spoiled the fun with all the helmet laws, our boys stood on the floor board between our legs. I guess you could say they have been mopeding since they could stand up and hold on. We have been riding here and there until recently, our teenage boys discovered the thrill of the ride. We now have over 1500 miles on each moped and they are just beginning to get broken in. We are hooked!

The fleet is finished with the addition of two Puchs in 2007. We found a 1978 Maxi Luxe on CraigsList that was in decent condition. The second Puch is a 1980 Maxi Luxe that was ridden hard, thrashed and dumped with over 11,000 miles. We rescued it from the dumpster and the inevitable doom of being parted out.

Everyone at our place is now official infected with the bug. The boys are now working on restoring and modifying the newest addition to the fleet, the JC Penny Pinto.

The day is here, where everyone at the Barrett Farm has their own moped to ride. San Jose...watch out... the Barrett family is ready to Swarm and Destroy.
