I've owned a Kidde gas powered bicycle, where the engine was on the rear of a recumbent bicycle. That was good for a smelly 30mph.

I've also owned a 1974 Auranthetic, which is not listed here at Moped Army, but was a true electric moped manufactured in Los Angeles in 1973 from a Chinese motorcycle. It goes 35 mph silently and efficiently. With over 60 pounds of battery aboard, it had a range of about 25 - 30 miles.
