So I was talking to a friend today that said the timing on my 103 may not be as sensitive as I thought. His theory is that you have roughly 4mm of stroke while at top dead center. This in theory gives you 2mm of play either direction when setting the timing? Sounds shit to me but I just wanted another opinions.I micrometered mine and right now I'm about .66mm BTDC. It seems to be running grea
I'm removed some of the mesh screens from my air filter and now the 70 jet is running great. Now I'm going to remove 3 balls and see if I can make this thing boost a bit sooner. Thanks for all the information.Brent Braun
This app is the sweetness for recording your speed. Simple clean and easy to use. Check it.
Just got the larger jets started at the 70 and still bogging. Went down to the 69 and it's running better than ever, but a Plug Chop still shows me running lean.Should the difference between a 69 and a 70 jet really be this drastic? Maybe I need a 69.5?I guess my next stop is to do a leak down test and see what that shows.Any thoughts I always open to suggestions.
Got the 68 in and it ran ok. Plug Chop was very white. Only other jet I had was a 76 it bogs badly. Looks like I'm stuck ordering more treats and waiting a few days for them to arrive. Damnit! Going to order 69-73 and start the process again. I'll keep you posted.
Here are the photos of the small adjustments I made to the exhaust. You can see in the second photo how its impossible for the baffle to clear the pedals and the center stand. All I really did was cut about and inch out of the exhaust and also shortened the baffle by about an inch and a half. Its driving me crazy that this damn thing doesn't fit. Oh well I'm now off to Up Jet to see if I c
Charlie I will take some pics as soon as I get home. If I going to reinforce the mounting bracket where does it usually break? Or should I just weld the shit out of all of it?
David, I figured out the mounting adapter it seems to work pretty well. As far as the exhaust I shortend the baffle by about 2" and as shortend the pipe where it goes into the baffle by another 1". I thought about bending the center stand or the pedal and as you say that maybe my only option. For now I'm going to upjet and make sure I get the performance boost I'm looking for be
Won't bending the pedal make it feel wonky? And won't it just bend back over time when load is applied?Someone has to have photos of them running this set up.
Seriously WTF? I spent all day hacking cutting welding bending beating shortening and all together reconfiguring this exhaust and the pedal still hits the damn thing.I do not understand how this thing would ever fit a stock setup. There just isn't enough room between the center stand and the pedal crank. I'm still looking for photos from anyone who is running this on a stock 103.Thanks,B
So I ordered this pipe because I heard it would mount right up to my 103 and allow me to keep the pedals and the center stand. Well it won't fit between the center stand and it I mount it on the right side there is no way it will clear the pedals. Sure I can beat on it, bend it around, break it and reweld it but Treats says it mounts up with "zero" complications?I'm also trying
Thanks I just ordered a 68 jet as well as a treat variety party pack. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks,Brent Braun
So I'm ordering a simonini circuit Performance pipe for my 103. I'm running a SHA 15.15 carb. I know I will need to up jet my question is, is anyone else running the same setup that can tell me roughly what range my jet will need to be? I plan on ordering a few jets I just want to make sure I'm in the right range. As waiting another 5 days for treats drives me bat shit crazy. Thanks
I am looking to upgrade my stock exhaust. I am looking for something that will mount up pretty easily and still allow for use of the pedals and kickstand. I've read the Wiki and searched the forums but I'm more confused now then when I started. I was running a derestricted stock exhaust and switched over to a derestricted Faco which ran pretty well until It cracked in half. Also a lot of
Is it just bolting onto the case bolts?
So I guess what your saying is no more storing the Pug in the living room? WTF I've been telling my wife it's art and a conversation piece.Any recommendations on air cleaners for my SHA?Thanks,Brent Braun
I have oil leaking from my SHA carb out of the air intake. It's not noticeable when riding and doesnt seem to affect performance but when I park it in the living room it stains my wife's nice new area rug.Any idea what maybe causing this? Thanks,Brent Braun
Im looking to add a launch lever to my 103 and need some recommendations. I want something that will not interfer with my pedals or kick stand. I also want it to be pretty easy to mount up. I don't really have the tools or the time to be fabricating parts. I am really looking to bolt it on and blast. If you have a good experience with a 103 and a launch lever please let me know. If you have ph
I have a 5 coil and variated. 1980 103SP BU2It had good strong spark before the timing slipped and I discovered the crankshaft on the fly wheel side was stripped out.I bought it thinking it would be fun to fix up. Come to find out it has a stripped out Crankshaft on the flywheel side. I bought a used crankshaft on here and and attempted to rebuild the engine. In The process I broke the piston ring
I should have mentioned this is the 5 coil and variated. 1980 103SP BU2It had good strong spark before the timing slipped and I discovered the crankshaft on the fly wheel side was stripped out.
Here is one photo of it. I bought it thinking it would be fun to fix up. Come to find out it has a stripped out Crankshaft on the flywheel side. I bought a used crankshaft on here and and attempted to rebuild the engine. In The process I broke the piston rings. I have since been unable to find rings in stock any where. It is still all apart waiting to be rebuilt but all the parts are there. I just
I have a 103 I'll sell you for $500 recently bought it for $175 and wouldn't mind making $325 profit on it. lol
No one out there is willing to rebuild this thing?
BumpI'm sure there is a Bourbon Bandit out there that needs some beer money?
So I have been trying to rebuild the motor on my 103 and have decided I don't have the tools, skills, or patience.Anyone near Louisville KY with experience rebuilding 103 engines want to hook me up. I'd be happy to pay you in beer, tacos, bourbon or even cash.Just trying to avoid sending it to 77 and dropping $200 on it.Thanks,Brent Braun
Glenn 77 maybe the way to go, but I was hoping for a faster turn around time or maybe even someone local to Louisville KY.Thanks,
So splitting this case and rebuilding this thing is killin me. Busted the rings trying to get the head back on and currently treats and 77 are out of stock on rings.I know that 77 rebuilds engines is there anyone else out there I can ship this thing to and have it rebuilt? Thanks,
I also know that 77 rebuilds engines is there anyone else out there I can ship this thing to and have it rebuilt? Since I can't seem to find anyone willing to part with there's.Thanks,
