The traveler does not have a variator.. and the only onr I've ever seen had a "C Miles" stamp on the VIN placard.Supposedly, C=20mph model, so if it's doing 30ish, that seems good to me.

Get one of the circular gap tools. Autozone sells them for like $1.99 at the front counter. If the gap is too large, tap the plug (electrode down) on a tabletop until the gap closes some, then use the tool to re-set it to the correct gap.I find these tools much faster than then wire-gauge type. Plus, they will hang on your keyring. The NGK plugs don't come pre-gapped for a car - I've neve

As joew points out, when you onaly have 2HP to play with, little things add up fast.Underinflated tires, or tires loaded past their rating rob your power. The power is lost as heat, flexing the tire as it rotates, to maintain the larger-than-expected contact patch. If your wheel bearings are less than perfect, the extra weight increases bearing drag more than expected.Yes, the clothing makes a diff

First, check the speed rating of the bike - to see if it's supposed to be going 20, or if there is some problem. On the VIN placard, you will see a box with a single letter stamped in it; either A, B or C - and then "MILES" written after it.A=30mph, B=25mph, C=20mphIf it's an A model, then something is up.. the A will run 30-35mph stock, on flat level ground. My 77 50V (A) runs

It's certainly not an MO2, they do not have an external clutch lever.

The pipe is designed to run in the shape in which it was made. This isn't to say that the design is perfect, but putting some random dents in it isn't going to help.As far as getting dents out.. unless you can get inside, you'll need to pull them out.

Autozone stocks the Bosch plug types for most mopeds (thought, they may not realize it). $1.09/ea.In general, changing a spark plug won't make the bike run better, unless the old plug is either worn out, or the wrong type. There may be some slight advantage to a *quality* performance plug, like an NGK Irridium, but avoid the Splitfire junk.

joew,Actually, I was referring to the Slashdot scale.. +5 is the limit.

While I appreciate the sense of anarchy on the MA forums, I wish that there was a facility for moderation. Just the ability to lock/purge threads would do.Temporary bans on IPs or IP ranges would also help.Anarchies tend to become a tyranny of the most agressive, violent and obnoxious people - and it would be nice if we could shut-down such jackasses on MA.

Did anyone notice that my initial reply to this thread has disappeared?

Rendall,Ok. The whole 0-70 in 4 seconds thing aside, can you please answer just one question for me?Why do you insist on referring to these small scooters as "mopeds"?I'm not getting your angle on this.

I am also looking for speed kit parts for a Franco-Morini engine, but I have the MO2.Mopedwarehouse doesn't seem to list kits for the MO1 or MO2.. M1, M101, M1K etc are listed; do they interchange?Nothing that I can find on 50cc.nl either. So where are the MO1/2 parts?

Ya know, it's funny.. I resisted clicking this thread up to this point, and now I'm sorry I did. Guess some of the great unwashed have leaked into the MA this last week. And WTF is up with the idiots calling Saabsonett a queer fscker.. for what? His sig? How did that get into the mix?You people (and you know who I'm talking to) are goddamn pathetic. Go read Lord of the Flies, and thi

If the engine runs at all, then it's pretty safe to say the piston was installed correctly. But have you checked compression? Needs to be about 120 or so, to get things running.. and it should be higher.Installing the kit does not change the magneto timing, that's all related to the crankshaft. If the kit changes the compression ratio, or port timing, then you might need to alter the tim

Author: Frederico (---.netcabo.pt)I'd guess he was in Portugal, or at least using a Portugal ISP.

In general, I think that good used parts are worth about 50% of new retail, but no less. $80 is not out of the question, if it's ready to bolt-on... depends on how badly you want/need it.

The hole (port) in the piston skirt should face the intake.. also, if there is an arrow on the top of the piston, the arrow faces toward the exhaust.

Just increasing the jet size, without any further modifications, will cause you to run rich and lose power. The larger jet supplies more fuel, but since there is no additional air, the mixture is upset. You'd need to do something to increase airflow - like changing the air filter / exhuast for performance parts.Personally, I'd suggest you put the stock jet back in the bike and enjoy it, u

Boost bottles do not work.. Err, I mean they *do* work..Wait.. now I can't remember which one it is ;-)

If your engine requires a needle bearing in the small end of the rod, and you failed to install it, you would know *immediately*.If you didn't notice the extra play when you assembled it, you would have heard it as soon as the motor started. Click-click-click.. and fairly loud.If the motor is quiet, I'd say you're fine.

bandit,That 'chrome' fender is most likely not chrome, but stainless steel. A magnet will tell you;. I've only seen the toolbox on bikes with the duckbill (painted) fender. As for replacing the engine mounts, that's one of the more annoying things I've run into on the Moby. I'm going to be helping fabricate a copy of the special tool used to replace these parts, someti

While you're wating for the new pipe, give that threaded joint between the pipe & cylinder a good shot of penetrant, every day. This will save time & trouble when it's time to take things apart. Try to use something good, like Kroil or Break-Free.If that joint has been undisturbed for years, it's bound to be tight - and have some carbon build up as well.

(Calling Don-o..)As I might have already mentioned, I picked up a MBK Sebring a couple of days ago. I've looked the bike over pretty well, and noticed that a lot of the parts on it are very much like a Puch Magnum Mk.II.The seller (Ryan) told me that the chassiswork is all built by Kromag, who designed and built the Puch chassis and motors. This makes sense, as it looks like the MBK has the s

Heh, finding some existing parts is pretty much the only option. Custom gears will make your head spin, especially helical gears. The science of designing, making and treating gears is beyond belief. Do a little reading (google) and you'll see what I mean. It's totally insane, to do it 'right'.

Kind of makes sense, but if you'd seen this bike, you'd have a hard time beliveing that the previous owner ever replaced *anything* on it ;-)Before I destroyed my airbox, it was missing the original hardware to secure the cover. I guess the original could have been lost at one point, and they found a replacement.Sorry about hi-jack-diddily-acking your thread, Harold..

joe,You really should pop into the chatroom (well, chat channel) on irc.freenode.net. Log on with an IRC client and /join #mopedarmy.I'd like to chat with you in real-time about this and other matters. I already have Saabsonnet as a regular, and a few more 'pros' would make the place more interesting.Bill

Ok, try this one out:Based on Dan's advice, I took a look at the VIN plate on my 1977 50V. It's marked with the 'A' stamp - so, it's a 30mph model apparently. But the airbox on the carb was clearly marked 25 US.So - either something is wrong / confused, or everything about the bike is 30MPH except for the 25MPH airbox.Any comments?
