So, taking the advice everyone has been giving me I am looking for a new condenser. I'm in college park and am looking for a place close by that would sell a compatible condenser for my 78 50v. None of the auto stores in the area seem to have what i need so i've turned to Ebay and treatland. Preferably i'd like to be able to pick it up so I could have it quicker and spend less on

I was trying to check the timing by taking the fly wheel cover off (the thing on the right side of the bike if sitting on it and looking forward) it seems to be a little corroded on there.. When my friend and i were doing it, it seemed to be stripping a bit.. is there any trick to it or just brute force and maybe a little bit of heat?

It doesn't seem to not be starting because its too warm, in fact when i let it sit to cool down and the try to restart i have no spark. The plug gets gunked up and has to be clean that's why i think it's a fuel issue, but still not quite sure slash the condensor could be going bad.thanks for your help

Also what are the symptoms to look for usually for a bad condensor?
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
yeah still the stock gurtner carb. Do you have advice on what i should do with that little bugger?

I see that as a common solution by many when something is going wrong with the motobecane.. "it must be the condensor". Just curious if it was the condensor why would it start up so readily and have a gummed up plug? That doesn't answer the question of fuel either.. I'm pretty positive its a fuel issue, like its running rich or something. Not sure where to go to fix that on t

Allright, so here's what i got. I have a 1977/78 motobecane 50v. It starts right up and runs great on the stand for the first ten minutes. Also runs great while riding with the throttle about half way. Past that point, after a while she just wants to bog down and die. After a little longer she dies. Trying to restart is not an option due to no spark because of a covered plug, covered in

Does anyone on here know the size of the screws and any additional hardware that I need to mount a 1979 motobecane Speedometer to my ped? I look a few places and I couldn't find the size of the screws. I already have the speedo and the speedo cable. Thanks!

Is your hesitation buy the Asian aftermarket carb due to the size of the Asian johnson rod? I have heard the Asian parts work all right it's just a question of finding a reliable supplier. Good luck finding your parts and getting everything all sorted out.

Do you have to get it licensed if you mod it from a 50cc to a 70cc? Regardless, I think I have read other stuff about this post and you need to get your johnson rod in order before you do these mods. However i think Brad Pitt is right on the mark. Good luck on your build.

Soo I went back and found the engine number but am not really sure how to decode it Rebel Moby. it is 3762912. Also the sprocket on the rear wheel has 54 teeth. The exhaust pipe has what looks like to be two ribs which I thought I read somewhere on here means that it is the stock pipe and is restrictive? On the pipe it has the marking 40T.. not sure if this helps anyone decipher my issue on sp

Yeah its the one from Elkton. I think I got a good deal on it, I ended up paying 150 for it. Did you take a look at it or are those just general fixes that most old mopeds need? Just curious, it's my first one and i'm pretty stoked about it. Thanks for all your help.

Can anyone also tell me then what that means for speed rating whether its the 20 mph 25 mph or 30 mph model? Also do you know any simple mods to make it faster?

So this is my first moped ever. Just bought it the other day and am working on it currently. The only problem is I'm not exactly sure which model or year it is. I think it is a 1980 50v moby, but if anyone with better expertise could help that would be great. He is the link for the pictures.http://www.mopedarmy.com/forums/file.php/2/76498/motobecane_50_v.jpghttp://www.mopedarmy.com/forums/

How does that affect top speed of the ped and or how easily to find parts and fix? Which is more desirable the 50V or 50L?
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
Thanks for everyone's advice! This helps a lot as a novice.

I am looking at a few ads on craigslist and ebay and found a 1970s motobecane i believe 50V moped that is not running.. My question is how much is too much to pay? They are asking around 300, so far I have them talked down to 205. The seller says he thinks it has all the parts needed, but no real idea on what is wrong. How much is too much in the Baltimore area? What is generally the cost to f

John where are you located? Also what is your experience with the expense and finding of parts for Motobecane Bikes 50v ?
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
Its a motobecane.. 70s model i think. Not sure much else. How much for that?
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
I am new to this forum, but I tried to poke around a bit to see if my topic was already talked about to no avail. Anyway, I was looking to purchase a used project moped and do not want to spend more than 125 dollars is that reasonable for a complete project? I found a motobecane project. How much should I pay for this bike if all pieces and parts are there but is not running? What are these worth

Use a rubber hammer though, as not to ruin the metal. However if it does ruin, use a new scrap piece of metal and re-fit it. Also make sure you do not wack it to hard in a glass house as to not break the walls. Best of luck to yah!

I may be mistaken when i say this, but ben have you removed the headlamps.. I see it as common procedure to remove all electronic devices, the radios from that era are a pretty big power drain. Also you might consider getting a basket to hold tools in case it breaks down on the side of the road. Check the spark plug too. Also have you considered using a hair drier to blow in the carb to simula

Hey ben, I have been following up your posts on your issue. I have worked on 1978 hobbits for a while now. Your issue seems peculiar. Have you tried to work on the timing in the jacobs ladder? Also I know friends with the Hobbit who have had issues with the Johnson rods. In 1980 they took that out, but I'm pretty sure in the late 70s the johnson rod is still there. If you want to check
