just bring the lock into a locksmith/local hardware store... they fit a key blank for me... I brought it home and cut the key myself by picking the lock taking it out and taking the pins out and cutting the key to the original pins. works good as new... Not that hard just takes time.. and th key blank was like 50cents... good luck with this sale. I have a red one just like that. port it witha new

You should probably straighten the forks first on that beast of a machine... If it can't ride straight.. what's the point in having lights work? Good luck with the build!

Seriously, you're just flat out wrong man... Unless they have been for the past ten years since the last person split the crank case, but how could that be if it was running perfect for that time period with adjustments up until now when i suspected an air leak after running it choked and see it run fine and do the carb cleaner test and hearing the idle run down..

nooo same crank same bearings.. new seals and gasket. breaking it down. everything didnt set so i have to reset it.. soo should be fine when after i do that.

I did not replace the bearings so they are as they were before dissasembly and reassembly soo its not the bearings.. It's the alignment of the crank.. Looks like a take apart and put back together again.. damn. thanks everyone

Man that doesn't seem good.. how do i resolve that issue?
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
Thanks for the help dale, I will check that later. The heat is needed because the bearings are pressing in real hard in the case. Weak-ends Tj... neither of my bearings are backwards. Thanks though.

I used a torch to take it apart and the oven and freezer combo to put it back together.. but wasnt in the oven very long. is there a break in period for seals?
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
for both

It says in the moby manual to heat the case slightly... so thats what i did.. How would I be able to tell if the case is warped? I also havent really lubed it up yet after cleaning and putting it back together. maybe thats the issue? Have you experienced this at all?

I put new seals in my crank case, seals and gaskets. I froze the crank and heated the case in the oven 175 degrees F for like 20 minutes. Crank slipped right into the case but now after screwing it all back together doesnt seem to rotate as well as it did before i did this... Any ideas? Did i phuck it all up?

starts, runs choked with not much power, let off choke to get to top speed, gets there, but when letting off gas letting it go back to idle starts to die and then does die, but leaving it choked seems to idle... is that fuel related? Crank seals haven;t been replaced as far as i know? Does that sound like a leaking crank or leaky seals in general or is it jetted improperly?

Just go to a lock smith and get a key blank if you only wanna spend like a buck. Bring the lock with you so they can fit the proper key blank in and the take the pins out of the lock and re-key it, it's not to difficult. Takes a bit of time but all you need are some little files. Better yet if your budget holds, get the locksmith to key it for you... NBD

set timing, changed condenser, I will have to try and look for an air leak when i get the time... It's not that that hard, just a little bit harder to start.. anybody else have a problem similar?
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
or lock wire it together, I've heard of people do that if you cant get your hands on a welder.
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
Air leak maybe? thats what did it to me with my moby, couldnt adjust the idle at all though..
Roger Semour — 11 years ago
I have tried a different resistor cap to no avail. Does the headlight kill switch count as the kill switch from hell? Also you think this problem is electrical and not like an air leak or gas flow problem? It idles and rides but will die at stops then a little bit harder to get started and have to work the throttle some. but then cruises back up to speed.. not really sure. its killing me!

So here's what I got, my moby 50v '78 was running great for the past two months after a mild port job, new high comp head installed, dellorto 15.15 sha with intake to match. It starts up, it runs on the stand and idles, it revs all the way up while riding but sometimes will just die. I know what you thinking condensor. Nope changed that put a new one on. Ground wire seems fine. New p
