No way, you guys are way off.Chappies are not that sought after. and the parts do now bring much money.I just parted out most of an LB80 (more wanted then LB50s), and I did not make much at all

Hey, that is my auction. they do have different exhausts.a lot of factors go into performance, if you made other modifications to air and fuel intake I believe it could make a difference

They are similar, and they are both very French.they both have variating clutches.Pick the one you like better, or better yet, keep the one that is more fixable.

Here is a pic.I found a very cool type 40 frame. So I may make a project out of it yet.I will decide soon

the AV10 is a reedvalve inducted cylinder, there is no way to make it work with a piston ported engine. (reedvalve motors have the air intake on the crankcase, not the cylnder)I do have a completely rebuilt AV10 engine with a brandnew 65cc airsal kit and NOS variator that I have been looking for a bike to match it . I have not got the time, and I need money, so I am selling it. It is a new kit,

Not to mention the fact that it is illegal to drive without the headlamp. and you will need all 8 watts to power it.

Geez, I said aprox 13mmI thought aprox 13mm, and around 13.5mm were about the same thing.any measuring I have done has been with a ruler.
Dan Adams (50:1) — 16 years ago
I told you allreadyit is rated for 8 Watts.

People around here are nuts for the big carb.My stock 50v goes just as fast as a 15mm delorto 50v.the stock carb has better pick up too. and better mileage I bet.I am sick of all the gurtner hate. the carb is tricky sometime, but less trouble then a carb that is too big, and probably will not fit rightlook at the intake you have. The absolute largest one has a aprox a 13mm diameter.

Good point, I did it with an ar12. you could not do it with an ar10.I do not think you can take out the diffuser on the ar10

I do not recommend a 15mm carb. the biggest moby intake is 13.5mm. and many have reported problems getting the 15.15 to attach wellI have bored out a gurtner to 13.5 mm with a hand held drill, then redrilled the original main jet out a bit and I have been pleased with the results so far

Chappy perf pipes look like like they would severly burn the legs of girls that like to ride on the back of Chappies.
Dan Adams (50:1) — 16 years ago
Yes you can, but some bigger jets would cost you less then the drill bits would.<1977mopeds.com>

Hey sam. There is no magic pill to swallow here.People have been talking about 70cc kits for the moby engine for years.Nobody has ever really seen one though. The kit is just the begining...then you will new exhaust, carb, intake, and the ability to break in it correctly, tune it, diagnose-recognize-troubleshoot problems that will arise ect.Beginers, and even Pros have alot of difficulty doing it wi

the 51 was not sold in the states.it is a reed valve inducted engine based on the "moby" style engineMotobecane was bought out by MBK sometime in the eighties. What is the year and model of your bike?A picture would be helpfull
Dan Adams (50:1) — 16 years ago
Oh I forgot to mention. you can not drill out your carb to 13mm because the 10mm gurtner uses a smaller throttle valve.
Dan Adams (50:1) — 16 years ago
the largest standard moby air intake is around 13.5mmSo a carb any larger then then that is illogical unless you are changing your intake, and boring the cylinder's intake.Measure your intake!People on the forum tend to be concerned with top speed over accleration. I think they are nuts. who cares if you can go 40mph if it takes you 2 minutes to get there, and at every stop light you have t

Many multimeters make an audible tone when continuity is achieved. I find this easiest, because you can then keep an eye on a the measurement.I find the most foolproof way yto set the timing is to atttach a multimeter to each side of the points, disattach all leads going to the points so you have a closed circuit when the points are closed, and an open circuit when they are open.Wedge a plastic r

Intake is on the crankcase on reedvalve mobies
Dan Adams (50:1) — 17 years ago
Yeah, look at the picture of that cylinder. No air intake.do not buy that kit for any north american moby.

Shaving the head down toward the exhaust is done. Is that what you mean?search for that and you will find some threads
Dan Adams (50:1) — 17 years ago
I second that ?Doing both premix and injection defeats all the benefits of either method.Right?

Great. Brett's was a polini, but it just said it was for a motobecane 51, so I thought I may have an odd ball engine.I could have emailed you, but I wouldn't have gotten a reply in 3 minutes...HOT DAMN.Someone said Chris from moped warehouse has a moby with one of these too.I am looking for the intake with a slight angle if possible. You know, so it sticks straight back.next question.W

I found a MBK 512 engine (AV10?) with a 65cc airsal kit, So I got it.Brett Walker had a 51 intake for me, So I went over to try it on, but it was too big.attached is a scan of my intake gasket with measurements, does anyone know if this is the standard size for a motobecane 51 intake?Does anyone have a 15mm intake that may work for meany input, or wisdom about intakes, or the orgin of my engine wo

just finding a complete moby engine with a variator would probably be easier.Check on ebay, there have been alot there latelyHell, I might even have one for you.
Dan Adams (50:1) — 17 years ago
the variator is a sexy clutch that changes gear ratios with rpm. yes they are great. On the fork plate where it says model 50, are there some letters? If there is a V then you have a variator allready. If you add one, then you will probably need to adjust your rear sproket as wellthe air intake, and exhaust ports are smaller on B, and C models. They also have smaller 10mm carbs as oppossed to 12m
Dan Adams (50:1) — 17 years ago
yup, thats the 20 mph cylinder.you are doing well to go 25mph with it.
Dan Adams (50:1) — 17 years ago
Read the plate on the forks,What does it say for "miles"A = 30mphB = 25 mphC = 20 mphA big carb on a B or C cylinder will not do much for you.
