92. Regulator/Rectifier Hook-up...

Dick Tortuga — 12 years ago
Forum: Repair
I bought this regulator/rectifer combo from Treats and need a little help:http://www.treatland.tv/4-prong-voltage-regulator-p/voltage-regulator-4-prong.htmIt has a nice 4-prong plug receptacle, but no indication which leads are AC or DC, + or -. I know they are opposite corners in a bridge rectifier, but not sure which is which or how to check. I

SHIT... I guess I'm always trying to make things more difficult. I read you really need to keep a good connection when using a CDI else you can burn the thing up. Also read that even when cranking with the plug removed, you need to make sure the removed plug or the lead is grounded. This HPI unit costs too much to blow up on something so stupid. Thanks alot guys, now I definately feel lik

Yeah, this is probably pretty lame, but I just wanted some advice before I ruin something... I bought this silicon cap from Treats:http://www.treatland.tv/red-spark-plug-cover-boot-p/red-spark-plug-boot.htmI can not get the metal piece out of the boot to see method of attach, ie: crimp or what. I stripped the lead and inserted it into the boot and it holds the lead very firm, engine runs great,

Thanks... makes my life easier since it's already installed with the v (spring side) facing the clutch. I just wasn't sure which side had the most pressure and this makes sense. You sure wouldn't want the intake stroke to suck oil in...

96. Tomos Crank Seals... which way?

Dick Tortuga — 12 years ago
Forum: Repair
A35 motor assembly - Was reading the assembly manual and this statement appears "WARNING: The LH carter seal ring is facing towards the connecting rod, while the RH side is opposite." So, I installed the seal on the ignition/flywheel LH side with the flat side out and the v side towards the connecting rod. Makes sense as there is no pressure on the outside of the case. Then I installe

Just about finished with my kitted A3 with A35 Aersal top end, JC Mikuni carb, Estoril pipe, HPI CDI, racing crank with needle bearings. Everything bolts up pretty well, EXCEPT CDI required some mods as mount is different between 3 and 35. If you're staying A3 ignition... no problem. Racing crank was A35 and crank is about 1/4" longer and required an A35 clutch and right side case. If

I'm thinking of using leather 3/32" thick which is 2.3mm. I think a lot will depend on fluid used, but I believe the leather would hold up great and adjust better than the cork. The KTM clutch intrigues me due to the simplicity of the adjustments and the gripping power, but I'm afraid to see what the cost will be...

I've seen references to cork from bulletin boards, rubberized cork from NAPA, gasket material from McMaster-Carr and now leather. I guess I'm just looking for what has been found to work best, especially with a tuned motor and a larger rider...

What "better clutches"? I've searched and have not found any aftermarket or racing clutches. I'd even be up for modding clutch segment to fit the center hub, but can't seem to find anything to work with. Most riders suggest relining...

Okay, need to repad an A35 clutch for a kitted, big carb Tomos. Read the Wikis. Any advice on what corks to use or stay away from? This motor has a little more hp, put I just want a good hook-up, not race clutch grab or anything. LMK... Thanks.

Currently running JCams intake & VM20 on my Airsal Tomos. Have a 4-petal Polini reed block & housing. How about an intake to bolt to the 4-petal doghouse and mate the VM20 and still clear pedals? Let me know if you can do it, if you need pictures and dimensions or if you want me to send the reed doghouse... Thanks!
