I bought this regulator/rectifer combo from Treats and need a little help:http://www.treatland.tv/4-prong-voltage-regulator-p/voltage-regulator-4-prong.htmIt has a nice 4-prong plug receptacle, but no indication which leads are AC or DC, + or -. I know they are opposite corners in a bridge rectifier, but not sure which is which or how to check. I'm hardwiring it. Anyone have one of these t

Watching this intently as I bought a set of Boysens, but I'm still tuning with the stock ones before I try them. Aersal kitted Tomos with VM20 Mikuni, Estoril, and HPI CDI.

My Estoril has been de-restricted (chamber cut and internal cone removed) and even with a baffle the thing is loud as hell. Performance is awesome, but just too loud. I'm going to repack the baffle with fresh glass and hopefully it'll still run strong WITH the baffle. I think you screwed it up cutting the pipe though... my .02

I'm running an Estoril on my Aersal kitted Tomos and it's terribly loud. I purchased it used and hoping a repack will quiet it some. Runs like a scalded dog though...

HA, "too old and scared to find out"... I'm turning 63 in March and building an almost identical motor to the one you described. Yes, the gears are lighter in the A3, but I don't think I'll be cracking them as I am not a burn-out, wheelie-hopping kid anymore. I concur with the racing crank with the roller bearing and am using one, too. I just want to keep up with the cl

I bought an A3 Racing Crank with the 12mm wrist pin hole for my black A3 bottom end. I'm figuring on an Aersal top end with Mikuni VM 20mm. I think this will work and will post the results after all the stuff arrives...

I use a vise and two small screwdrivers... Set segments in with j springs installed. Join and install outer spring over two segment dividers. Place in vise to hold. Using two small screwdrivers, hook spring on each side of semen divider, slip, in, and over the divider. The dividers is actually the small tab on the j spring that holds the large outer spring in place.

Harbor Freight has a brake cylinder hone that opens to 2 1/2"... worked great for light hone to clean up after porting.

Okay,Details: Tomos A35, HPI CDI with HPI light coil (traditionally known as a low output set-up)Question: How close should the light coil sit to an internal rotor?Friend of mine slots coils on other set-ups and gaps the coil to rotor with a piece of duct tape. The HPI is drilled and sits about 3/8" away from the rotor. I'm not getting any output whatsoever. What gap does other system

OK -Removed the top end including the cylinder. Symptom found and reason for not running. Still have a problem, so I'm accepting advice. Piston rings were collapsed and smeared over on the exhaust side. No damage to cylinder and piston can be reused after cleanup. Help, lean? I've seen holes drilled in the ring lands on pistons, does this help with lube and cool? I'll researc

Not sure... Haven't got that deep yet. Not sure what the symptoms would be for a sucked reed and will the motor not run with a broken one?
Dick Tortuga — 12 years ago
Okay, it SHOULD start... but...1) I've got good spark2) I've got compression3) I've got good clean gas all the way to the carb bowl4) Jets are clear5) No Bueno, not even with a mini-shot of ether...!I have another carb I can try, but I don't think that is the problem. Anyone know what "broken" reeds will do?This bike was riding beautifully, just popped about 45, slow

I am powdercoating my lower legs on a set of EBR% forks from a Tomos Streetmate. I'm trying to locate the top seals on the lower forks to replace them. Anyone know where I can locate replacement parts for EBR forks? Thanks...

WOW... what a bitch. A week of soaking in various fluids, an 18" pipe wrench and HD bench vise, and finally... I got it apart. Obviously this fork had tried out and collapsed. The steel rusted some, but was just so dry/gauled that it was near a cold weld state. It's apart and looks like some buffing will make it work again. A couple marks from the pipe wrench grip, but they're

Bump for some help... tried pipe wrench and will not turn either way with bottom screw removed. Really trying to at least save the lower leg with the disk mount... help!

I have a Streetmate disk brake set-up... EBR legs... Grimeca master cylinder & caliper. The fork with the caliper mount is stuck and will not come apart. It appears to be fully collapsed and jammed. Any ideas on getting this thing apart. I've removed the bottom screw, filled it with Rustaway and let it sit. Tried WD40 soak also. Any help is appreciated as I would like to save this f

I still use a double nut on each side... thin one on the inside of the swingarm and fat one on the outside. I use a cone wrench and adjust the spin same as I did with the loose balls. I know if the center spacer is the correct length between the sealed bearings, you should be able to tighten everything up and still spin, but I feel better adjusting the way I do it.

Have a 79 Bullet with 5-stars and added sealed bearings. I think I got the wrong length axle (12mm in middle and 11mm on the ends). Anyone know the correct length? Would I just be better off grinding a mm off the swing arm slots and going with a straight through 12mm? Just looking for some advice... thanks.

Looks like I'm going to be popping my trans cover off today. I just hope there's cork left. I don't want to reshoe right now. I've got three spare sets of pads that I'm going to do when I get the material, but not right now. My whole problem sounds just like yours, sans the backwards pedal with throttle. My pedals are a little jumpy at idle, but never any attempt to t

My frame is powder coated and I mounted the coil without any prep. The mount bolt threads provide a good ground. This may sound stupid, but you can set the thing up for a CW or a CCW rotation. Are you sure you're using the right diagram? The Tomos is CCW so I set it on the marks to the right of the "stator" block. CW would have set it to the marks on the right side. I think yo

Mine fired on second kick... on a Tomos though... Orange wire went to coil, black wire went to ground (I used the coil mounting screw) and the black/white is the kill wire that goes to a kill switch, if used. Mine just has the black/white hanging as I use the choke to kill... It ran set-up by the HPI method, but after it ran awhile, I reset it a little different. I set the piston at TDC and mark

I have the exact problem on my freshly rebuild A3/35. I started with A3 cases, but ended up with an A35 crank. Aersal kitted, HPI CDI and VM-20 carb. I had no shimming to go by when I assembled the transmission, b ut aligned everything with no rubbing. Knock noise is the same regardless of timing or jet setting. I thought it may have been pre-ignition knock. Goes away as throttle is opened. Need t

Well, I kitted the bitch, but now realize stock brakes were intended to halt you from around 30 or so. Not so good right now! Thanks... I measured the drum opening for my diameter so 87 is probably better fit. Thanks for sharing your experiences...

1979 Tomos Gold Bullet Grimeca 5-star 16" wheels. Measured an old set of brakes, but they were pretty shot. I got around 17.78mm wide and 88.9mm diameter so I figure the 90 x 18 is the right size. Will someone confirm before I order a set. Thanks guys...

Where would you wire in the capacitor (in-line off the DC+ ?)and what size would you recommend?
Dick Tortuga — 12 years ago
Well, I'm going to wire one in a kitted Tomos with HPI CDI. Because of the low wattage of the light coil, I hope to run a tower LED for a headlight and LED "bulb" in the tail. I'm hoping this rectifier/regulator will provide me a semi-clean 12vDC. That's the plan anyway...
