Not sure which problem has brought you to this state. If your bike is rated to 20 and goes 18, you are pretty close. If it runs like crap all the time, you may want to reintroduce the problem to the line, with a full explanation ( you have a no. of posts). If you've not set the timing and gap since you got the bike, and it's old, then no simple solution will get you to an easy fix. I

Did you ever find a source of jets for Batavus? Ike says he has none for my Regency and the Netherlands connection does not seem to yield anything up too easily. I need a 56 and a 54. Why are you going so rich in your selection of jets?

Goop is much stiffer and stronger when dry. It flows for awhile after being put in place so is harder to work with.

Confirm that the small right side is the choke. Try http://miniengine.0catch.com/Mopeds/Mopeds.html to find a copy of your owner's manual.

Z- Thanks. My carb was rebuilt and it appears the incorrect jet and jet holder were installed (jet size 46, appropriate to the Laura 48 motor). Switching back to the old worn size 56 restored low end power but top end is prone to 4 stroking, which is why I sent it out for a rebuild. Do you know of a source of new jets? What was your source of info as I am turning up a variety of differences eve

He is my top source at present but I've the later 56 motor. Let me know if you hear any sources on this engine.

Thanks to all but the mystery continues. The carb on both 25 and 30 mph models is an H12 as listed by the factory. Another good theory was a difference in the # of front drive teeth on th4e sprocket, factory claims 17 for both models and mine has 17. Another writer thought the cylinder might be bigger. There were two engines but there is no note of any displacement difference in the Laura 56 e

My Batavus Regency ,'78-80, is a standard 25 mph model. An HS version is listed in the owner's manual with capability of 30 mph but no details are given. The carb is the same as are all other listed specifications. Does anyone have details as to what the difference is?

It is serious disassembly but can be done. Read at this Vespa site about how its done in general. You would be going through the same pattern. You will need a flywheel puller, patience and confidence. Other than the seals, its a good time to do gaskets as some will be not reusable. http://www.scooterhelp.com/ If you are not keen on going into it this deep, leave it to a pro.

Site where you can see what little history there is and some action shots of it. Classic find, congrats.http://www.sentex.net/~dewood/microcars/valmobile.html

It appears you have done a lot of normal solutions to typical run problems. I am not a mechanic either but would first check your timing and if that is on the mark you may have main shaft seal leaks. Timing can radically interfere with runability. When seals are worn, once the bike heats up a little, the compression goes away and the choke becomes a crutch to deal with the loss of good compressi

My Batavus did that when I managed to destroy the key that holds the flywheel on the shaft. Check that the key is still there.

Perhaps Chris is the entire warehouse and he's just overwhelmed. What I needed was low profit margin but vital, a metric size key for the flywheel. On the rare occasions I got him live, he was most agreeable and said he'd send it or already had. After three failed deliveries and never a return to phone messages or e-mail I gave up. Was never charged. When I needed a flywheel puller,

I’ve twice ordered from this source. The first time was for something straight off the web page and the processing was fine. The second time I called for something not pictured. They said they had it. To make a long story short, it’s six weeks later and three claims that the part has been sent have proved bogus. They don’t return calls, they don’t retu
