Thought this would be easy but am missing something. Need to replace the headlight bulb and it seems the fairing must come of first. Have seen a reference to two screws holding it on and it slides off but mine has two threaded bolt ends sticking through the fairing from the inside out with cap nuts on the outside. The fairing is brittle plastic and the prior owner seems to have attempted the job

Saabsonnetguy nailed it, adjusting the cable was the cure for me. Thanks!

Picked up a nonrunning '95 Targa top tank and am going through it. Gas tank needs derusting. Went to remove the Petcock (the type with a round black plastic knob) but the knob rams into the bottom flange of the gas tank. Knob appears to be held to the Petcock control shaft by an incredibly small rolled steel pin through the knob and the shaft. Have I missed something? If the pin has to dr

Thanks, was hoping for an easy fix but this is dead-on with the expected. I'd only add that you need a centering drill bit, a very short, broad drill bit with a tiny head, specialty item. Aallows you to move the punch mark closer to center , best done on a drill press. Can't imagine why Tomos went this route.

Was having a problem timing an A3 engine, thought it could be a sheared timing pin (what holds the magnetic flywheel in its proper position) but the pin was ok. However, if it did shear, how do you get it out? Prefer to hear from those who've done it. I tried searching the Tomos area of the site, maybe I missed it. Thanks

My Bullet actually has a small hole facing the tire on each fork, like a drain.
Ned Renner — 6 years ago
Success. Soaked it for a few hours before removing fender and tire. There is a small drain hole on the lower inside edge of the fork tubes that you need to tape over or your penetrant will leak out. Once the tire is off, if the fender looks like it's being noticeably twisted, it's because one fork is free and the other is frozen in spring compression mode. To release it I taped the bo

Excellent , thanks.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.If anybody has done it can confirm, that would be great.

Front suspension does not travel at all. Started disassembly but after removing the triple plate, the tops of the fork tubes have a threaded plug that seems to be a permanent installation. Can these things be taken apart?

Ran across this today, helped me out. Also lists bulb voltage.http://www.myronsmopeds.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Magneto-Wires-Chart1.jpg

Answering my own question, one seemingly knowledgeable source says '79 was the last year for 6 volt and '80 on is 12 volt.
Ned Renner — 7 years ago
What is the transition year for 6 volt to 12 volt please?

Good site for diagrams and info. I had to time my motor to get it to run right. Takes time, a few special tools and patience. Well worth the effort. http://miniengine.0catch.com/Mopeds/BatDealersManual/LauraM56/LauraM56DM.html

Did this ever work out for you Stephen? Did you by chance learn the part no.for this size key? Does anyone have a Batavus parts manual with the ID no. There are an awful lot of these keys but they do come in specific sizes. http://www.stdsteel.com/wk.pdf

Here is the manual, wiring diagram in the back. I have some service articles in the garage but no scanner at the moment.http://www.mopedriders.org/article_view.php?faq=2&fldAuto=16I happen to have my magneto open tonight because the Woodruff key broke off. This also creates a no spark condition.I'll snap a photo but my main PC is down for the count and I'll not be replacing it unti

My regular ride is is a Regency, given all the talk, I've no idea which model but I always supposed it an early 70's, labeled as a 25 mph, does about 28. Fixed it from dead in a garage. Great little bike, gets lots of attention because it's not common. Step thru design was the most marketed one, overhead tank was to accommodate male ego.As to your no start problem: determine if i

If you mean Batavis :2% or 50/1.

Anyone able to give me the basic timing numbers? Point gap and degree no. where the points should be opening. It's a '78 and engine is believed to be Puch. Extra help would be wire color and location to hook-up my buzzer for static timing. Or if there is a manual on-line...

Simplest solution is to tighten the brake cables at the handlebar by unlocking the adjustment screw by turning the lock screw ( wide/flat washer-like plate) counter clockwise one turn, then turning out the adjustment screw until cable tension is better, then turning the lock screw clockwise to lock the setting. If this doesn't work the de-glazing exercise in earlier=er posts may, but if you

The easy way out is to go to call a couple auto parts stores and ask if they have a 2 stroke oil measure. The one I use is commonly available and consists of a plastic syringe with makings on the side for various mixtures to be added to either a pint or a quart. Even if you can do this high order math, you need a good measuring container and that is what has always been my issue. The syringe-th

Can you get more specific on the problem? Did it run then, the cable broke? This is the one bike I have experience on. I''ve a non-web parts source who is slow, inaccurate, sends the wrong stuff first time, but appears to have things hard to find. Will help if description and patience are way up the ladder.

Have you had any luck with making lead stops for cables? Some end stops are unusual and I can't find the replacement- with-set-screw type to fit all applications.

Parts are tough.. Moped Junkyard has some but charge high prices. I ot a petcock out of a guy in Ohio but can't find him on the web anymore. It it perhaps just clogged? As I recall, the threading into the tank was very fine and that prevented my adapting anything but an original. Trak mopeds are a modern knock-off of the old batavus designs, but that does not insure that everything will

My Bat is of a different style and drive train but is it possible that a key in the galley-way of the shaft is missing? They are easily lost on disassembly and act as a lock to lateral movement.

Mopedlar gave good advice here. The soapy water is a must and a set of tire irons from a motorcycle shop will last a lifetime. Slightly inflate the tube so it doesn't sit in folds as you work past it. For a real hoot, try replacing the rubber on a Goped tire.

You probably need a little mechanical confidence but once you see what a shop would charge you may gain that. Sounds like you need a new cable with the plastic and metal cover it slides through. Most carbs have the cable connected to a sliding barrel inside the top of the carb. The top screws off and the barrel pulls out on the cable. The attachment off cable and the barrel is obvious once apart

Probably not on the throttle cable, The cables on most peds have fixed lead end stops and must be an exact fit,For fuel line, it must be "fuel line". Plastic line will stffen and leak with fireball results. You have a cool bike but will need to study up to bring it to full performance.
Ned Renner — 18 years ago
No problem with that advice, though noise means wear, so if you have the part, use it.
