the variation of the speed of sound based on atmospheric conditions... carb jetting... tweaking the chamber for specific purposes... heheh... makes my head spin that's for sure...

yeah if they're honda clones they prolly are pretty good. just out of curiousity is your g-3 a toptank?
Josh S — 17 years ago
it might... but i doubt it. do the standard stuff... port polish hone, freer flowing exhaust plug chops... etc etc... thing is it isn't just about one performance enhancement but a balance of performance parts. the reason Smitty's engines run shit hot is because understands that nothing exists in a vacuum. i'm sure it seems pedantic for me to say that but it's really true. you

this is a debated subject. as far as mopeds are concerned i say used the lower octane so it doesn't burn real hot. far as scooters are concered try asking at scoot.net

if you search for it you'll see Tab's 52 mph setup... that's the best combination i've seen yet

don't use mag ;)

yeah doing it in steps won't hurt at all you just won't be getting the biggest bang for your buck if you do it haphazardly. i think the best bet would be to find a kit (or two or three if they exist) for your engine and see what the manufacturers recommend as to what sorts of other mods to make. if it is a minarelli engine a guy by the name of federico in brazil will sell you a kit and e

yeah same with the snark i believe... just wonder if anyone's used heavier stuff... and what the results were/are

the overbore kit is just the beginning. it's a wise idea to get a performance exhaust and bigger carb as well. it's not just about raw displacement. engine balance is extremely important in a 2 stroke. for example Tab has a 64cc polini kit on his puch but due to other modifications he made his bike does 52 mph whereas some puchs with 70cc kits only do 45. all about balance. sprockets exh

i know you can tinker with different fork oils on a motorcycle but can the same be done with moped forks? any recommendations as to what kind of oil to use? any tips or tricks?

i was askin about puch one spds but it's generally the same concepthttp://www.mopedriders.com/viewtopic.php?t=2174&highlight=

from what i understand the bike Tab did it on was in nearly mint condition. though that could be a misunderstanding. personally i'd be happy with 45 mph top speed and good hill climbing cuz my area is rutted with hills.

Well bassman is right about the a35 kits working on a55s and Ike proved it.http://www.mopedriders.org/viewtopic.php?t=1848

biggest carb i've ever heard of used on a moped is a 20mm bing. and that was on a 70cc kit. so even though i don't know the answer to your question, i think it's safe to say 32mm is entirely too big for a moped of any displacement.
Josh S — 18 years ago
well from all i've heard it's a good kit but the fact that it is not bolt on is kinda crappy. tabpat got his polini kitted bike going a radar gun verified 52 mph. can't get much better than that man.

on a v-twin dual carbs help, jetting can be a bitch but it's worth the effort because unless it's blue printed each cylinder has slight imperfections that affect the fuel air mix differently. But on a single cylinder, you'd be getting no advantage because the optimum fuel air mixture is the same no matter how it's getting there.

you get a range of jets. say 5 or 6 sizes smaller and then 5 or 6 bigger than the one you got on now. and an equal number of spark plugs. you then run the bike full throttle with each jet for like 30 seconds i think it is. then let the bike cool off and pull the plug. you're looking for a tan color. you'll probably want to take a pic of the plug and post it, i've never done a plug c

Josh S — 18 years ago
well i'm gunna email both angelo and federico and see what my options are. i AM gunna have a completed kitted bike goddammit... ;-)
Josh S — 18 years ago
well maybe this isn't the kit for me then (not saying I won't go with it but just exploring options) are there any other kits for minarelli bikes besides this one?
Josh S — 18 years ago
he had one on his 52 MPH magnum unless i am totally mistaken.
Josh S — 18 years ago
I'm not sure of the specifics but Polini does make a moped pipe. ChrisMWH has it or you can search through the Polini catalog by going herehttp://uk.catalogo.polini.it/

ok...what carb (if i can't wiggle the bing on)what exhaustwhat gearsany other mods i should make to get this kit running well?hehehe in case you hadn't noticed i decided to say screw it and kit it... and worry about the cobra later. it's not going anywhere and i do have the bottom end so getting a kit for it won't be difficult...
Josh S — 18 years ago
heheheh RTFM right?
Josh S — 18 years ago
i'd be surprised if they numbered their jets the same... but maybe they do...
Josh S — 18 years ago
regear the sprockets, port polish hone the engine... get a custom built exhaust pipe... heh they're four strokes bro just use your imagination and call some harley dealers... ;-)

ok the monzas and montanas were the european magnums. and i can tell you there's a crapload of magnums rusting away in junkyards nationwide. why do you think i always tell people to hit the yards hardcore?
Josh S — 18 years ago
i dunno man... it's seriously tempting to do, but man one wipeout and yer just finished... as to carb, i'd prolly rig a 17mm bing on there if i can wiggle the stock puch intake manifold on without serious fabbing. we'll see. i'm in hold mode right now (a-freaking-GAIN) cuz i might be getting a canadian work visa. so we'll have to wait and see...
