jeff — 12 years ago
Forum: Repair
my variant has a pretty big air leak around the intake. i'm pretty sure it's between the reedblock and the case because it appears that one side of the crankcase has shifted slightly. i'm trying to figure out how i can fix this without taking the crankcase apart.any ideas you have will be helpful...

just rechecked the spark-- it was weak --shit(!). Everything seems properly grounded. Does anyone have any idea how to check the engine coils? What would produce weak spark having replaced the ignition coil and the condenser?

133. Re: moby stink

Jeff — 14 years ago
Forum: Repair
actually I took the exhaust off again and it has a lot of carbon deposits, but you can see straight through it. Could that alone be the issue?

Or the cable might be popped out at either end and sitting wrong in the sleeve. Check this too. Make sure it's seated properly.

I love my Vespa fly wheel puller.I used to bang the crank on a 2 by 4 until the flywheel plopped off. I never had any problems, but it's a world of anxiety I don't miss.If you do decide to do it the very dumb way (like i did) make sure you put that nut that hold the variator on, back onto the end of the crank to prevent it from smushing down. But I digress, get a puller :)

142. Re: Vespa ciao - carb switch 12.2 to 13.3 trouble

Jeff — 14 years ago
Forum: Repair
While you're at it, you should widen that intake to 13 mm if you want to get the pep your new carb has to offer. You should open the crank case to do this so that you don't get shavings inside.Best of luck!

145. Motobecane Fork Bearings Sticking

jeff — 14 years ago
Forum: Repair
Reassembling my forks I've run into an issue where the pivot stem is jamming up when i turn it.Is it simply a matter of over tightening, or are my bearings not sitting right? It seems like the the "top cone" is already pretty loose. Then again, I really don't know how tight it is supposed to be. When I took it apart, it was only hand tight. Is there a trick to doing this? I&

146. Re: Motobeacne Engine help

Jeff — 14 years ago
Forum: Repair
yes, but if you put a kit on a moby, you're going to need to put in FAG bearings, so basically it requires a bottom end rebuild
