1981 Yamaha MJ50 Towny. 49cc(60cc upgrade) No endorsement needed scooterWas running but has been sitting in the garage stored for past 1.5 years. Planned on fixing up and repainting but never got around to it. I think it needs new crankcase bearings. Could buy a different engine on eBay if you didn't want to tear it apart. Parts are still easy enough to get.Clear Washington title.360-318-5418

I have a 1981 Honda Express NA50 II 2 speed. I want to install a big bore kit from Vt Cycles on it but I need to know what I should do when it comes to a Carburetor and exhaust. Is the stock carb going to cut it? I know that a new expansion chamber exhaust would be a good addition. So...where do I go from here?thanks..Aaron
I wish I knew what fork it was as well since I have a pair of mj50s.. I do know that you can use a qt50 front wheel since they use the same brake hub.
The MJ50 Towny has the rear gearing similar to the pw50. I have 2 Towny's with the yt60 kits on them and they run great.I can imagine how fast it could be on a qt50.You will need the mj50 exhaust since the mounting holes on the qt50 muffler don't exactly match the mj50 engine. I don't think that modifying a bracket for the muffler would be too difficult. I've rebuilt the intern
I found easy mod for a filter. Cost about 25 plus shipping.Buy "http://dratv.stores.yahoo.net/cuairfi35ta.html" $10.99 from dratv and buy these from cheap cycle parts. Part # 36R-14453-00-00 $12.08, 90467-20023-00 $2.44. Total $25.51 plus shipping.
All that head is is a slightly milled/shaved cylinder head. Take it to a machine shop and have them mill it until the letters are gone. I have 2 performance heads as well. I don't recommend using them with anything other than stock QT50 pistons or oversize kits not the yt60 kit.
Make sure both gaskets are sitting flush and that your spark plug isn't too long. Add washers to your spark plug if you feel it's hitting the piston. I had the same thing happen to me when I did a YT60 upgrade.
You can also try shaving the cylinder head. I have a shaved head for a FA50 / FZ50. That should increase you compression.
No, it's an older carb and the air screw is under the oil tube.
It consists of 2 hose clamps, air filter, rubber grommets and curved tube. The curved tube is off a Suzuki FA50 Shuttle Mid 80's and the rest of the parts are from Autozone/Advanced/Schucks Autoparts.Total cost of 26.00
I have a little better setup on mine. I'll post some pictures soon.
I'd like to see it as well.
I would also buy new strong tension clutch springs for it. They sell those for 19.99 as well
You don't have to take off the injector. I would just take off the gear to the injector until you can fabricate a plate for it. You could also buy a REV PLATE for your cylinder. pw0300 Rev Plate $54.99<url>http://www.peeweecycle.com/miniracer-pw50performance.html<url>
I rode the bike with the upgrades for about 3 weeks before it started to have issues.
I cleaned the carburetor when I got it, cleaned the exhaust, changed the oil and gas. I run premium fuel. The bike was stock when I got it. The first time it seized was when I was going uphill for a awhile and the clutch started to slip. I turned the bike off at both the kill switch and the ignition but it continued to run until it bogged down and stalled. All the other mods were listed on the fir
The oil is the 2-stroke/injector oil made by Suzuki, I also use Yamalube no cheap stuff. I haven't adjusted the timing and the engine was already broke in when I got it. What makes the engine run rich/lean? Which way do I adjust the needle? Up or down?Aaron
I have a 1983 Yamaha QT50 with a YT60 jug/piston upgrade bored over .50. I have Boysen reeds, K&N air filter, and a slightly modded stock exhaust. It moped runs great except that when I try to climb a big hill or go too fast down a hill the engine locks up and slows me down and stalls. I let it cool for 3-5 minutes and it starts right up. I was told it was a "soft seize" so I install
What do you mean "cut off"?
It's right next to the carburetor. Follow your throttle cable down from the grip and notice it splits into 2 pieces. One goes to the carb and the other goes to the oil pump.
The system only has a Petcock for fuel cutoff. My wifes stock QT50 goes 28mph and is completely stock. I would adjust your throttle cables and oil injector cables and of course throughly clean your carb and insert a inline fuel filter.
