my variant sle america has the pyramid reed valve and also came with the reducer washer on the intake...taking out the reducer washer, the shim, and putting a dellorto 15/15 carb on bumped my speed from 30mph to 40mph instantly...just waiting on my metrakit pipe...my friend has the piston port engine variant sl with a 15/15 carb, bored out intake, took out the shim, and a metrakit pipe...his bike

yeah rob...i did widen the intake tube...i can't take the baffle off the exhaust. there's a pretty solid pop rivet holding the baffle to the exterior of the exhaust. i have not advanced the timing...not sure how to do that?...the bike has just over 3000 miles on it and i thought about that as an issue...the one thng i didn't do was check for solid compression, which i'm going

hey...just wondering if anybody has any tricks to make a Laguna Sport push past 28 mph...i've already put a new 15mm carb on and bored out the intake, the restrictive washer was already off the variator, the piston head and cylinder are relatively clean, even took off the massive airbox just to see the performance, but not much different...i've been told that the exhaust is super restric

yeah, it's definitely not the brakes, wheel spins fine without chain on...took off my transmission cover and everything spins fine...it's only when i put the cover back on the wheel won't spin...the second gear seems loose, which might mean it's not catching on the bearings correctly inside the cover, so i might try and tighten that up to see if that helps....thanks...

so it's not really my wheel, it seems the transmission is engaged when i try moving backwards on my bike...it's a ZA50 engine...I haven't done anything to the transmission ever, so i'm not sure why this just started happening...any help would be appreciated?

thomas — 16 years ago
yeah, i actually did that rob and the valve was very very clean, almost looked brand new...i will try venting the gas cap tomorrow to see if that helps...haven't had a chance to get over to the garage today, but will keep you posted on the progress...thanks-tom.

wow...you just solved all my problems...great advice coming from a 59 year old....thanks to everyone else who actually put some thought into this forum...

yeah i'm definitely choking it and when it does start i try to pull my hands off the bike to let it idle for a awhile to warm up and work through some of the fuel, it's just the minute i start to throttle it will die...i think i'm just going to take off the cylinder to check for any complications, and while i'm at it i'll take off the carb again too....thanks-tom
thomas — 16 years ago
yeah, it literally will flow out for about three seconds and will just stop in the "ON" position. but will flow continuously in the reserve position (which clearly states reserve)...haven't checked the vent in the fuel tank, not sure what that entails...it will start most of the time only on reserve then shut down once i open it up, give it gas...the carb is pretty much brand new...
thomas — 16 years ago
so i just put a new piston on my laguna (got it from bj at handy bikes), and the bike will start (sporadically). once i give it fuel it shuts down, so i checked the petcock and when it's on, it flows out and then stops...when i put it on reserve it flows perfectly. the fuel line is completely filled with gas and the carb is clean as well. i took the petcock off to check for any blockage, b

Just put my new 15mm bing carb on my maxi and it leaks like crazy when the bike is not running (from the float), when it's running the carb is fine and doesn't leak...i took it off again and made sure the float bowl was tight and it seemed fine, but 20 minutes later it started leaking again, while the bike was off the whole time. I'm a little confused as to why this is happening b

just got a 15 mm bing carb for my puch and i have a 14 mm intake...just wanted to know the best way to bore out the intake...i'm guessing with a 15mm drill bit, but i've never done this before, so any tips would be much appreciated.--thanks

you mean don't leave drums in for powder coating or make sure everything in sealed before i do it? thanks harold.
thomas — 16 years ago
does anybody know if leaving the brake drums on a mag rim is bad during the powder coating process (in the oven for example)...i would venture to say yes but i'm not totally sure...and if yes, i'm having a really hard time getting them out..jim told me to get a hardwood dowel to punch them out and i did, but still won't come out...any feedback would be greatly appreciated...thanks-t
