if it doesn't move, at all, or barely and you can hear the engine running at higher RPM's, then it sounds like a clutch problem. The clutch isn;t grabbing

THanks for the reply. I really apreaciate it. IF the compression on my Cady is too poor to run, I figured the first step I shall take is to replace the head gasket and to replace piston and rings. I dont think Im gonna put a performance kit on it now that I understand what t ype of moped it is. I do not have a pipe or airbox on it, and Im wondering if when I get it running that could cause damage.

Theres a 70cc airsal kit uynder part 759 at the moped shop. I was wondering if this would fit a Motobecane Cady's engine. The engine is an M1. The kit already says it fits model 7, 40, and 50, and I do believe the model 7 engine is similar to the M1 cady engine.

Will an airsal 70cc kit fit the Cady;s m1 Engine. The kit claims to fit model series 7, 40, and 50 motobecanes. I do believe the 7 is similar to the M1

you definately need to derestrict your moped. Possibly it was manufactured with a gear that has good torque but a terrible top speed, so you probably want to get it regeard if thats the problem just change the geear ratio. Sometimes they retrict the engine through the exhaust system by putting a small washer inside the pipe with a small hole, restricting all the gases from escaping. also sometimes

Hi, Im planning on replacing my 1976 Motobecane Cady's stock Gurtner BRevete Carb. The Gurtners carb size is 215. Does anyone know which carb size would work. Im sure its the SHA model but Im not sure which the other numbers mean.

HOw essential is an airbox? I mean, I have a filter, but no airbox. Will it positively not run?

My CAdy is located in Ontario, Hamilton area. Thanks for the offer on the carb possibly, but I think Im gonna go with an aftermarket dellorto. I think I know what you mean by the choke. I looked at mine and there no choke slide or anything. Its pretty much just a wire with a metal stopper on the end so you don;t pull it through the carb. Fortunately, on an aftermarket carb, the choke lever is inte

Hey Greg, Im working on a '76 Cady and still haven't got the thing running. How fast do they go 20, 25 or 30 mph? The lever on the right size is decompression, and the lever on the left is choke. Choke wll only really help for cold weather starting. Just wondering, does you Cady have a stock or aftermarket Carb?

Hi, I am getting a new carb for my 1976 Motobecane Cady. Right now the existing carb is a Gurtner Brevete, with a 215 jet size. The Cady's motor is either the m1 or m3 model. Im not sure which size dellorto I should get. Whats barrel size, choke size? Help from a seasoned carburetor expert would be greatly appreicatied

Check out www.mopedriders.org, then go to the Moped Repair section THey have a Champion Psark Plug cross reference guide with gapping as well. good luck

Thanks for the advice Jason. I have a Champion RL86C I believe its the same as an L86C. I have it gapped to 0.018, which is what a Champion Reference Guide on mopedriders.org says. The Cady service manual however, says a different gaps, buyt also for a different plug. Not sure which one I should follow. Anyways Ill probably end up purchasing a whole new carb. AS for the main jet, how far does it h

Yeah, I don't know to many people around me that work with mopeds.I think borrowing a float bowl would be tough. Im contemplating whether or not I should buy a new one, or buy a whole new carb. What is starter fluid, is it the same thing as Aerosol carb cleaner?
Steven — 16 years ago
thanks for the tip nate, and for nick, Its a 1976 Motobecane Cady. There is a leak in the float, letting gas in, therefore it does not float. The float bowl is attached to the carb, and the float that is supposed to float inside, is what it leaking. I'm sorry I think I confused you by accidentally calling the float, a float bowl.

Im no moped guru but I may have had your problem. Do you have a hypertension coil? Otherwise I'd say the condensor is shit.
Steven — 16 years ago
Sounds likea problem Im having, just Barely does my Motobecane cady run. II've had combustion a few times, but not consistently. Im thinking of doing what you're doing. Swtich to a dellorto. That will take care of idle, choke and you air filter. This will make it run smoother. good luck.

Ok, so i've been fixing up a Cady, I've already achieved spark and it seems the Cady has OK compression (haven't actually tested). I cleaned the carb recently and noticed the float bowl had a leak in it. I tried pedelling the Cady without the float bowl and it fired up a few times inconsistenly and veryy choppy and not well and the carb was leaking. But I know i got combustion which

Ok John, I really think I can help you on this one. I have a Mtobecane Cady that I worked on for a while to get a spark, a Cady is very similar to the Mobylette. Anyways I believe that part that clips to the bottom of the gas tank, above the motor is known as a Hyper-Tension coil. I purchased a universal one online. As for hooking it up I believe it need to be in contact with the tank, and it need

A Gurtner Brevete, off a 197? 6? Cady. The Dellerto SHA looks good. Im not sure which size I need tho, either 14-15-16? As of now, the bike has no pipe, and is not running

Im trying to remove my Gurtner Brevete Carb from my Motobecane Cady, and Everything is loose and the arb is almost free except the chock cable will not detach from the carb. The throttle slid out easily, but the choke cable will not budge. Is there a possibility it it jammed. Should i cut it loose? am I forgetting to remove a screw somewhere?

The cady sat outside a house for 20 years in Canadian winter, (the guy gave it to me for free) and I got the thing fixed up a bit. But the carb looks ok, but the float bowl is dented and there no airbox/airfilter on it so im thinking of just gettin a new carb. If I did get a carb cleaner, is the aerosol or non aerosol better. thanks

I really dont know much about carbs, but how would I know which jets are right, how do a read/cross-reference a jet size?
Steven — 16 years ago
yeah, wraparound intake. Im nt sure how to find a similar sized carb though. I heard you need specidifc jetting and stuff like that.
Steven — 16 years ago
I think you may not be getting fuel to the motor. Clean the carb or replace it, but first check compression with a real compression tester. I heard compression should be at least 120 psi for a 2 stroke. good luck, im working on my moped too. I got spark, compression, but no fuel. Its a carb problem for me. Im going to try that carb cleaner method tomorrow.Steve

Im trying to fix a 197? Motobecane Cady, and I've already established spark and I think it has good compression. I have determined that fuel flow to the engine is not occuring and I've decided to try and fix the carb. Im not too experienced and think I may invest in a completely new carb. Possibly and aftermarket one, or maybe the stock Gurtner carb. Is it possible to put on an aftermark

Im not too sure how to hook up a new Universal H.T. coil i purchases online. It is not a stoick part, anyways there are 3 connections. One is and empty hole where the sparkplug lead fits in nice and snug. Then there are two pieces of metal, and one came with a wire attached with a metal loop on the end. Im not too sure how to hook it up, it dindn't come with any instructions. any help would

Does the length of the spark plug lead influence if ill get a spark or not, right now im running off 3 feet of lead. :)

Thank you, but my manual also says I need a cap with 4000 ohms resistance, will 5000 ohms do? Does it even matter, or is that the same thing as the suprressor issue?
Steve — 17 years ago
I've been working on my 1976 Cady for a while and still cant get a spark. I just got a new H.T. coil and I'm nopt quite sure If i hooked it up correctly. Anyway, I know for sure Im getting a charge from the magneto. I held my tongue on the wire while my brother pedeled the engine. I have a new Ht coil on it now. what are the next steps I need to fulfill to check ignition. Ithe sparkplug

I just pruchased a Universal 6v H.T. Coil from www.mopedwarehouse.com, since I was missing the one from my 1976 Motobecane Cady. While I was reading over the serice manual I noticed that there was something inside the plug cap called a supressor. Do I need a specific Motobecane cap or no. Could I just pick one up at an auto parts store. Thanks.
