Joe,I also had trouble with the 7:1. I ended up with the 10.7:1 CIF kit which isn't bad. I get 40 with a good accel. I'd try a 9.5:1 if I had one, but I don't know how it would do.But I'm also just running a 65cc.

Nice job, Brad!I've been riding this around.

Why is the 12.12 fubar?I'd swap doodads from the 10 to the 12 and make the 12 work.

When I run stock bikes with aftermarket variator, I'm running 30g. A kitted bike should be lighter. But that all depends on stock contra. Running an aftermarket contra changes that a bit. I can't remember if you have stock or not.If 36g is too much, you can rob yourself of top end because your engine will struggle to rev out. Clearly 18g is not enough. You'll want to get a few other

Weights seem a bit heavy, but every bike is different.Have you done the marker thing to see if you are fully variating?

Oh that's awesome! Thanks!

Just watched your video. Was that a cold start? Sounded like 4 stroking to me. What are you jetted at?

33 to 35 is pretty terrible for a kitted bike. While an air box definitely makes a big difference, I don't think you'll see a giant gain in MPH.You should be looking for a solid 40mph, or you're not in tune. Don't settle for 30s. Not with that kit, crank, etc.

I'm looking for the bars that attach to the frame and the footboard in the attached picture.Thanks.

Every moped discussion is half performance, half repair. Every. Single. One.

This Simonini hits hard and looks good. Pedals work, too.

This was my project all winter long.My brother sent it to me in a box.

I like the fire pipe. But the Proma is always a good option as well. A solid performing pipe that doesn't break the bank.

Techno is garbage. Simonini all the way.

The multivar will definitely help with accel and hills since you already have a pipe to go with it. You'll find having an aftermarket variator will be a night and day difference.

I guess. I've never had it happen though.

I'm not sure about your weight measurements. The stock brass weights are more like 8g each. How big a hole is drilled in the weights? Anyway 1.7g to 1.4g is not a big jump, so it would be hard to see much difference.Another thing you can do is lighten the clutch shoes as that will allow them to slip a bit and get to a little higher RPM before they fully engage. I've drilled holes in them

It's early enough in the year....lots of riding season ahead. Be patient, do it right, and it'll have you riding all summer long.

Looking Great! I'm excited to see a video of it rolling by!

I just stick a screwdriver in the fins of the flywheel. I am ok using an impact to remove, but I hand tighten. Those crank tips can break off and then you're up a creek.

@Joe A parts build is the best place to experiment!I'll go ahead and brag a little more on my Grande , just because I love it.Since that picture it's been upgraded a bit more. It now has a Polini Speed engine with the Mazzi, 70cc Athena, and 18mm phbg.It has a subframe from Ed's Moped Shop. Transmission is a set of CIF gears for lower ratio, and a new Malossi clutch. Also sports a C

I'd agree with Graham. 68 is high, which can lead to 4 stroke, vibration, and oily plugs. The vibration can also be the belt. I've noticed on some stock setups that you can get a weird harmonic vibration at speed. Are all your weights exactly the same? Could weigh them and see if they balance out.How did you do your leakdown? Decomps are pretty leaky on stock bikes, but I don't notic

Lol well now we will never know....

I get it. But Proma is only 100, and it won't drop your low end like that. Circuit pipes are a bit different than the straight pipes.Let me know how that techno works for you. Who knows, might change my mind.
Ike Pipe — 3 months ago
Techno, heck no.Proma is a good pipe. I have to strongly disagree with whoever is advising you. I think you're going to be disappointed with that techno.Proma is thinner metal than a fire pipe, but if you're holding out for fire, Proma is the way to go until you get it. As I said before the thinner wall makes more noise than a Fire, but performance is similar.I've had nothing but go

Just for fun, here is my ideal stock Vespa no case split setup, guaranteed to give 35-37 mph every time.Proma circuit pipe (can swap in Fire). 12.12 carb jetted between 59 to 63 with a modified stock air box( yes, it's better than the Malossi) (can swap 13.13 if old carb bad.) Polini variator with half heavy and half light weights (it comes with 2 sets). Malossi belt recommended but will run
Ike Pipe — 3 months ago
Yup! Proma circuit is a splendid choice! It's a bit louder and sharper sound than the Fire, but has pretty much equal performance, especially on a stock setup. I think the fire is a bit better build quality, but the Proma is also cheaper. Most of my Vespas have a Proma, and they're wonderful.

40 to 45 is definitely doable, but not without a kit.The stock variator weights are actually in plastic caps. You can remove the caps to see the actual weights. I'll try to take a pic for you tomorrow. If you want an aftermarket variator, I highly recommend the Polini. The Malossi has comparable performance, but the Polini is just better. The main thing that gets me is the variator spacer. The

You're jetted way too high. Stock 30mph Grandes came with a 49 jet. Even with a 13.13, unless you've opened the intake (thermally requires splitting cases) you're not gaining anything over a 12.12 which was what came on the 30mph Grande. Best jetting will be 49 to 54 absolute max. Get that under control and you should gain some speed, or at least some power. You should drill your wei
