1. Tomos Streetmate Cutting off

Devin Haley — 7 years ago
Forum: Repair
So, I've got an Airsal kitted Tomos Streetmate with the 21mm Dellorto racing carb. Everything seems to be in good working order, I can start it up fine, runs well, but once I bring it to a halt it'll cut off. Could this be due to the idle jet, air/fuel mix level on the carb, or the engine overheating (from not enough ATF maybe?). Could it be an air leak? Could it be a CDI issue? What wou

Is the magneto/flywheel too lite-weight for the crank?

I thought this system improved the wattage of the lights, etc.

So if I took the stock flywheel, removed the pin from the crankshaft, and re-installed the flywheel in the correct position, the taper would be able to support and hold the flywheel in perfect position?

What about it crushes the reliability? I've got a 70cc kit, stuffy race crank, 21mm carb, tailored/custom clutches with 20lb. & 30+lb. spring tension, smooth/customized ATF, new bearings, new/universal regulator and swapped out sprockets. Which aspect of the engine wouldn't be accommodating to support the HPI? Better yet, why do engines fail with the HPI? Clutches?

6. HPI Internal Rotor Installation Q's

Forum: General Discussion
I just picked up one of these off Treats:https://www.treatland.tv/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=tomos-HPI-CDI-ignition-coilI'm confused because the magneto that I'm replacing hinges and turns the crank levered off of a pin on crankshaft itself. Normally, there is a slit in the center hole of the magneto allowing for "grip-through-obstruction" (Per the one pic'd in this im

7. Tomos Airsal 65cc Cylinder Issue & Q's

Devin Haley — 7 years ago
Forum: Repair
I've got some very fine scratches on the inside of the Airsal Cylinder kit I'm using on my Tomos a55 and have a new piston I'm using for it. The engine had seized up months ago, but I'm hoping the new piston should suffice with the new rings and all. Am I on the right path of logic here? As I mentioned, the scratches are very subtle. Also, I happened to notice the ports on the

11. Re: Tomos a55 Crank Seized?

Do you discover the reason for the crank seizing? Did it turn out being a bearing? The exact same thing happened to me, so I'm just curious what I might be facing. Thanks!

Does anyone know if Tomos clutches from an a35 engine are compatible with an a52? I know a35 and a55 are interchangeable...just not too familiar enough with the a52 model.

Nice! How's the pick-up on the low end? My Tomos CDI is actually a little too explosive...possibly a steep curve?

I'll try and re-jet tomorrow, see how that does. It's pretty absurd, but no leaks, everything's connected right, no smoke...theoretically if there existed that much of a air/fuel mix, the spark/combustion wouldn't be operating well or at all. I have no clue. This happened with my 14, 17.5, and now 21mm carb.

After installing the Airsal 64cc kit on my Tomos, I'm getting like ~7 miles to the gallon...everything's running fine. Has anyone had this issue or is this normal?

28. Re: Custom/Modified a35/a55 Performance Clutch (KTM?)

Devin Haley — 7 years ago
Forum: Performance
Thanks! Also, from the pics I've seen, does installing the KTM change the transmission/gearing options? (Basically looks like everything goes from auto 2 gear to just one gear---with the removal of 1st gear all together in the transmission). Now that you stress the importance of using the authentic KTM clutch versus the aftermarket jobbies (which was my game plan---expense-wise) perhaps trick

That's what I'm hoping to be the case---quick CDI box swap. I'm planning on trying it out, but wanted to avoid any mishaps and not re-invent the wheel of destruction. I'll try to get around to it this weekend and then post the results.

Has anyone had any luck with this? It's this one: http://www.mortchmotor.com/MIHPCDI-VESPA-VESPA-Series-IGNITION-COIL-WITH-CDI-for-VESPA-PX-PE-50-200Is it as easy as taking the stock Tomos CDI off and installing/connecting the Vespa CDI? Any timing adjustment? (Keep in mind mine's the trigger Flywheel/Stator system, which should be compatible)
