Piston window matters but not as much as opening up your intake port to the boost ports. From there you want the window on the piston to shoot fresh air/fuel across the bearing on the up stroke but allow reflux up to the boosts at BDC, from the crankcase.Japanese engines handle this with a whole 3'rd transfer or a port that dumps straight from the reed cage to the Crank, or thru Boyesen ports

I've had really good luck with gas struts. And they're cheap.
Max Johnson — 5 years ago
I love that gas struts on french bikes is a thing now.

The hero kitted bikes I have are Very stable, even the one I beat to shit, ported out, decked, reed valved, bored... you get the idea.Make sure you have 0 air leaks. Also, those 16MM SHA carbs are kinda crap all over, especially on a piston port. The ports need to be chamfered. the piston skirt needs to be chamfered. The window for the boost ports needs to be opened up to it's maximum so t

It's up in the for sale section. spacings are 50mm center to center, holes are 8mm, wrist pin is 12mm, and stroke is 43mm.

50mm stud spacing, 8.5mm main stud holes, 12mm wrist pin, 43mm stroke, 47mm bore. Boyesen ports, Gila size reeds with fiberglass petals and PHBG intake.$250 shipped, can throw in a Honda PA-50 I case and a stock motobecane crank for $300 shipped, if you want to make up a not-o-becane engine as was our intent. Torque in excess, and lots of revs. The porting on this kit is serious business. I'll get some measurements tomorrow and do a full FS post.
Max Johnson — 5 years ago
I think I have a metrakit for that bike. I'll have to get the full measurements tho.http://mjmotors.tumblr.com/post/158291725103/just-got-this-rare-franco-morini-metrakit-fromOwner wants another bike, so he's selling it for $250 shipped. Was gonna post a FS on here later but wanted to find someone with a bike it'd fit first. Same stud spacing as honda hobbit.

Looks good, but that 15.15 is gonna be the choke point.

Don't use retaining compound, it will gum up your crankshaft over the long term and your timing will slip.Do lap the flywheel to the crank for a better hold before installing for good, however.

And the stroke. And the wrist pin diameter. And the intake. and the transfer ports...Hon Hon Hon Hon.

My wife liked her Motobecane, but then it picked up an ancient indian curse from a haunted forest and was never the same.

Pennzoil marine is all I run because I live by the coast and it's $20 a gallon.Oh, and it doesn't burn up and scorch on like other oils do, and seems to work just fine in moped engines.I do mix it at 32:1 just because it keeps everything nice and wet that way

They just can't get rid of heat fast enough. The cases start to heat up, you get major heat soaking losses, and all that torque they were Supposed to generate falls flat.Adding a french race pipe designed for a 50cc kit like the Doppler or Malossi will only make this problem Worse.
Max Johnson — 5 years ago
Those 74cc kits get HOT with a pipe, just so you know.

Reed valve that bastard. There's so much meat on the damn thing, a 3/4" thick spacer is all you need

Compression ratio is just the difference in volume between Top Dead Center and Bottom dead Center.Or, in 2 stroke applications like Mopeds, the difference in Trapped Volume between when the exhaust port closes and top dead center.A low compression ratio Can prevent you from attaining top RPMs, because you run out of Torque before you hit any other limiting factor.A very high compression ratio can

Doppler pipes on the Girlfriend's bike without a Variator...Hm. Bear in mind, the power hit is going to be rather extreme with that set up, unless your girlfriend is the sort to get a rush from that sort of thing.I speak from experience, my wife never rode over 25MPH on a piped moby and that caused some issues right there.Start with a variator and get it dialed in, and then maybe regear. Th
Max Johnson — 5 years ago
The pipe will be what lights that kit up all the way, without the supercharging effect, you'll not get the huge power boost around 8K that takes you up to 10K RPMs or so.

I have a specific route I use to gauge overall performance, due to several start-stops, followed by several straight sections, followed by a specific hill climb that gives a Very useful indication of a bike's torque curve when heat soaked. That last bit is really important, if you're gonna do any sort of everyday riding without having to choose crap routes because you can't pull a pa

I can't be the only one seeing possibilities for piston port only bikes...
Max Johnson — 5 years ago
Don't forget the effect you get when you pipe it. The power will come on a LOT stronger with a 100% effective width exhaust port, because the outgoing exhaust pulse will have a much sharper pressure spike, and the reflow will have more port to work with.
Max Johnson — 5 years ago
That 8.6:1 looks like a totally reasonable number, until you factor in the boost the pipe will be making.

I realize I'm just letting that Gift Certificate mature like a fine Wine, until you guys are DaVinci level.I dunno if I'll have to wait that much longer.
Max Johnson — 6 years ago
Working on that. Previous motor kept snapping mounting bolts, so I'm gonna have to do something special to address vibration.Probably going to make a couple of steel plates that pick up case bolts and the cylinder head studs.
Max Johnson — 6 years ago
AV10 crate motor would get you most of the way there. You'd have to build up the rest of the bike to handle a powerful french race engine. =P
