Forum: Performance
hi tim thanks for the response. they replaced the spark plug wire at the shop, im not just about the muffler pipe, the banjo screen is clean, and i'll check on the gas cap vent. the fuel flow is fine too! they had hte bike for four weeks trying to go through everything to get it going.

hi. okay i checked out the numbers on my carb. i was under the impression that i had a plain ol 1977 puch maxi 1HP.the carb is a 1/12/307, according to the article, the carb for a puch maxi luxe 2HP.i know the guy who owned the bike before me never had it running, but knew the original carb was bad so he bought a new one. he gave me parts of the original carb and it was a 1/12/292. on that moped

hey tom, seriously, thank you so much for all this information. i have a few more questions. what is a plug job? how do i do that? and how do i know what the correct air/fuel mixture is? i will check the numbers on my carb today to make sure im using the right ones.how much do jets cost? they look like a pretty small part. thanks again!

hi sorry, can you be more specific about the main jet thing? do i need to get a bigger carb in general or just a main jet, what is a main jet. sorry, im pretty new to this moped thing. what size main jet do i most likely have now if i have a 12mm carb? thanks so much

haha i swear they went through all of it. they cleaned out the carb for sure, they had it for several weeks trying to figure it out and charged me far less than the work they did because they couldnt bring themselves to charge the labor fees if they couldnt get my bike going properly. im bringing it to another guy soon though. just to see if he can figure anything out. will it hurt to put a bullet

10. bullet exhaust/15mm carb

Ramsey Beyer — 17 years ago
Forum: Performance
hi. i dont know anything about performance tuning or much about moped maintenance, but after bringing my moped to the shop they said they couldnt get it to go over 15 and they dont know why. the bike is in good condition and htey put a lot of work in to it. so he said the next thing i should consider is putting on a 15mm carb (i currently have a 12mm) and a bullet exhaust pipe. i have a 1977 puch

11. Re: puch carb questions! 15mph moped

Ramsey Beyer — 17 years ago
Forum: Repair
so my bike might be the 1hp 17mph maxi? does that mean that it going 15mph might actually be normal?and also, is it bad to have another size carb on there? it has a 307 on it right now and the jet is a #58. i was thinking it having the wrong number carb might be the reason it was going slow (the 307 instead of the original 294). thank you!

13. puch carb questions! 15mph moped

Ramsey Beyer — 17 years ago
Forum: Repair
hi. i have a 1977 puch maxi that, after having been taken to the moped shop here in kalamazoo and was thoroughly checked over, still only gets a top speed of 15mph. they didnt really know what was wrong with it after all the work they did too it. it wasnt even running before i had brought it to them. after looking into performance parts i was told a bullet exhaust and a bigger carb would help me g

14. Re: very smokey!

Ramsey Beyer — 17 years ago
Forum: Repair
im not sure whaat the ratio would be but i read once or twice that 50:1 is 3mm of oil per gallon of gas. is that correct? so i put in about 2.3mm of oil. another friend of mine with a puch that runs rich said thats how much she puts in and it works well and prevents the fouling of her sparkkplugs.

15. Re: very smokey!

Ramsey Beyer — 17 years ago
Forum: Repair
hmm well the smokiness has stopped andn so has the misfiring! i filled up the tank with new gas and oil the night before i actually ran it and my friend suggested maybe the oil had time to settle so it was burning a lot of oil right at first. is that plausible? it seems to be running fine now, just needed to be mixed in maybe or get used to the new gas/oil. i have no idea what im talking about...

hi. can you tell me the exact voltage/wattage for both the taillights and headlight? thanks so much

17. Re: very smokey!

Ramsey Beyer — 17 years ago
Forum: Repair
hi EK, thanks so much for your response. the weird thing is, i tried to put in a little less oil than the 50:1 mixture because i remember before that my moped usually runs a little rich and i was fouling spark plugs. back then when i asked, someone said they usually use a little less than the 50:1 mixture for their puch maxi because it does the same thing.

Ramsey Beyer — 17 years ago
Forum: Repair
hi. this might be a very basic question but im a new moped user.today i put new gas and oil into my 1977 puch maxi and it took a little while to start up. when it did it was running about 5mph slower than it normally does and after about 10 minutes of riding it started to get really smokey and smelly like oil. the only difference i could think of from when i was riding yesterday, when it was worki

19. fuel valve/petcock(?) questions

Ramsey Beyer — 18 years ago
Forum: Repair
hi. i have a 1977 puch maxi. i ordered a new fuel valve (are they called petcocks? i think so), the one that screws onto the side of the bike near the bottom of the gas tank and it had a golden hook shaped tube attached, unlike my last one with had no attachment. well when i tried to screw the fuel valve on the golden hook prevented it from being able to turn since it just kept hitting the botto

20. Re: rusty tank/Kreem

Forum: Repair
hey. i got it from here:http://www.instantop.com/CyclePage/Kreem.htmyou can find it at most motorcyle shops though if you'd like to save on shipping. its pretty pricey. 30-35 usually for a kit.

21. Re: just got Kreem, tips please??

Ramsey Beyer — 18 years ago
Forum: Repair
i got it from here:http://www.instantop.com/CyclePage/Kreem.htmits about the same price i saw it for at my local motorcycle shop at home but then they ran out and then i came to school so i resorted to online shopping, which adds shipping. i got the kreme kit with shipping for 42. pretty pricey, hopefully worth it. we'll see.oh yeah. duct tape definitely doesnt work to plug holes =0)

22. just got Kreem, tips please??

Ramsey Beyer — 18 years ago
Forum: Repair
hi. i just got the kreem kit to remove the rust from my tank and to coat it. i have a 1977 puch maxi so obviously the thank is in the frame and cant be removed.the instructions for hte kreem kit seem to apply to tanks that can be removed and are much larger than my tank. for example:step 2: fill tank with warm water and tables spoon of detergent, if badly rusted add handful of bolts, then shake ta

i believe i have a onespeed. and im pretty sure its the only screw that logically makes sense to fill with anything. the others definitely look like theyre just holding the cover on.

i got liquid wrench and im letting it soak for a bit. i tried just spraying it, tapping, and then trying to unscrew it but it wasnt budging. i need some muscles. i'll try to get out to a walmart soon. im kind of limited on what i can get to because of my lack of vehicle while at school (which is where the moped comes into play as long as i can get it running).

25. Re: no transmission fluid

one last question, one ANY transmission fluid be better than none, until i find type F. because im having trouble finding type F fluid. all the specialty shops are far away. so for now (and only for a short time) could i just use another kind of transmission fluid?

Forum: Repair
yeah i know i need type f transmission fluid. i have a 1977 puch maxi. but the old owner said i fill it up by unscrewing a big flat head screw, and thats the plug for the fill hole. is that really where i fill it up? because thats where my problem is, i cant get the screw out.

Ramsey Beyer — 18 years ago
Forum: Repair
hi. i dont know much about mechanics or anything and i really dontknow what transmission fluid does. im sure it lubricates something. how important is this?i cant unscrew the screw for where i put my transmission fluid in. its stuck i guess, im not really sure. i tried using the help of several big strong men and wd-40 but we cant get it unscrewed, and i know the previous owner said he drained the
