This is what is looks like a few years later after having to make parts to fit it that were not available and a few modifications. I'm pretty proud of it being the first bike I've ever built and half of the parts were missing.
This is what my Chappy looked like when I first got it in three boxes full of random parts.
So, this was what my chappy looked like when I got it. Three boxes of random parts.
I found a piston. But I don't know of a cylinder/head that will fit my motor.
Should I just scrap this thing?
Took the cylinder off and the piston is not looking so good and spark plug threads are fucked. Is there a different head/cylinder that will work on this bike? I can't find a replacement. How do I know what piston will fit this?
Also had a ridiculous amount of white smoke from the exhaust.
Well, I got the carb tuned up it was running pretty good even climbing hills. Then it stalled and wont start back up it wont kick over at all like theres no spark. I pulled the head everything looks the same, still got good spark, compression is still the same, checked the reeds they are shiny and look brand new, when I kick it air comes out the exhaust but seems like no suction from the intake. t
I need both left and right hand controls. I don't really care what condition their in as long as they have the wires and the switches work.
Seriously, thank you guys for all the help so far.
I need original chappy hand controls. I also need a chappy cargo rack possibly other parts.
Mine don't kick back either. I did modify the look of my muffler.
I think I've narrowed it down to the carb. It's guzzling fuel and smoking when at full throttle but it idles good and starts on half a kick. I've adjusted the shit out of the carb and it does the same thing no matter what I do to it. I was test driving it today and as it was running out of fuel it was hauling ass uphill till it was empty that's the only time I get any real powe
Spark is good bright purpleish-blue. I've been messing with the carb and im starting to get it tuned in its running a lot better still not the power im looking for and it's still running rich. It starts on the first kick and idles without stalling. what is the desired compression? I borrowed a medieval compression gauge that does not screw in so it was difficult to hold it in and kicksta
OK, I've narrowed down my problem. When idling if I shut the fuel off it will get down to the last bit of fuel and the power kicks in and it revs like hell then dies because it out of fuel. Anybody ever heard of this? Carb bad? getting too much fuel?
I have the plastic body, lights and mirrors for an 86 trac clipper. I also have a Yamaha chappy tail light and a few other chappy parts for sale.
Ive done all that except timing and pull the head because when I cleaned out the exhaust it wasn't bad and I didn't notice any buildup at the exhaust flange. I have no idea how to check the timing.
I'm going to borrow a gauge tomorrow. I put my finger over the plug hole and kicked it and it blew my finger off the hole so I'm guessing I got pretty good compression. There are no leaks, I pulled the fuel line off the carb and gas poured out so I'm assuming I'm getting enough fuel, I cleaned the carb and the exhaust. I put a high flow air filter on so I changed the main jet f
I still need to borrow a gauge to check compression but till then heres a video of it running If that helps diagnose the problem.
Maybe I'm using the wrong tranny oil. Any idea what I should be using?
The smoke is on startup. I changed the tranny oil when I got it. The other day I noticed a screw that said oil level by it so thinking i put to much in I took it out and drained it to that level witch is not much oil at all a lot less than I had in it. And it does the same thing. I ran it prob 10 times before I drained the oil and it looked like new oil. I'm not sure how much should be in it.
I put a new plug in when I got it. I'm pretty sure it's not running lean. Would running lean cause that severe of a power loss?
Ill try that. It seems like it may be stuck in 2nd gear. Am I going to be screwed trying to find clutch parts for this?
Finally started working on this again. I welded the exhaust and no more leaks but it still has no power. Engine starts fine and idles but the moped struggles to move at all and I only weigh 155lbs. Any ideas?
I've ordered two sets of controls off ebay neither fit the handlebars (too small) and neither were the same setup as stock they have to many wires in the kill switch. I can not find any original controls. Anybody know of anything else i can replace them with or have any ideas? The controls are the only thing I need to get this thing done.
Oh, check out this ridiculous fuel tank I put on it today.
It should be running lean but I checked the plug and its covered in oil and a lot of white smoke from the exhaust. hopefully I can get pipe welded soon and hopefully the exhaust leak is the issue. This fucker hauls ass uphill when it decides to power up for about two seconds.
Ok I did the carb cleaner leak test and nothing but I did find that where the exhaust attaches to the cylinder is leaking like a motherfucker. I took it off and the pipe is pretty much broke off from the mount. Would this cause serious power loss?
It's a daelim engine. I just took it for a ride up a small hill it will pick up for a second or two and go fine then just loses power and if I don't push with my feet it will stall. I'm thinking it's a fuel issue I got a new tank ordered that I'm going to put up front insted of the stock rear tank but I won't know if that's the problem until then. I have a clear
