You gonna fire that thing up or not?

Stock NS50F WOT in 6th in a full tuck, with little or no wind on a flat road and with stock gearing and stock size tires hits between 55 and 60mph. 90mph at Bonneville must be on a fully faired and modded NS. Sounds like a blast though.

The street legal 1990 NS50F uses a 6 speed AC08 engine, 17" spoked drum brake wheels and was imported into the US for only one year. In stock trim it does not have a tach, but an analog tach was available as an option. I have this bike and the tach. Works pretty good, but is on the small side. There was also was an even more rare NS50R, which was a track-only version of the NS50F. It had 17&qu

I have a NS50F and they're awesome fun bikes. Super fast and handles fantastic for a 50. Most people are blown away when I tell them it's only a 50.You're right about the numbers on the speedo. They're the MAX speed for that gear. The best time to shift is a bit before that line. If you don't have a tach, just go by feel and if you know your stuff, you'll find you end

Is this front fairing still available? Condition? Windscreen condition?

I'm glad I could help! I have seen the owner's manual on sleazebay for not much cash. There's also official Honda service manuals for sale, too, but they seem kinda pricey. The official service manual is not as good as a Haynes in alot of ways though. The Honda manual assumes you already are very familiar with the bike and a Haynes or Clymer manual walks you through things better. I

The oil light that comes on is ONLY for the 2 stroke "engine" oil in the oil injection tank. It is NOT for the transmission "transmission" oil. I just saw this in the owner's manual last night and was surprised because I would have thought the light was for the transmission oil also. Easy to get confused if you see the light for the first time.Honda calls the 2 stroke oil

RD's are awesome! You can hear 'em screamin' from miles away!

Definitely a sweet CR conversion. Sounds great on the acceleration run, too. You know you're gonna miss it once you sell it... On the other hand, you can always start again with a different one.

I have seen the MB5 decals shown on parts diagrams even though they were not available. They are displayed flat so that you can see the logos as if they were flat on a tabletop. You might be able to use that. Hope that helps some. Try Babbit's, partzilla.com or some of the euro sites like cmsnl.com if you want the euro logos. Hope that helps.

So is the VM22 now the carb of choice for a kitted MB5? I've always heard the VM20 was the undisputed king of carbs. Good and bad points with each I guess.

First off, make sure you've converted your bike to 100% USA specs (or go back to 100% UK specs). It will NEVER run right with until you do that. Check all the available sources to make sure you've done that before doing anything else.If you are using used parts, then you have to make sure that each part is 100% good. If you put on a used set of reeds, were they in perfect condition or we

Everything you describe points to an electrical problem. Especially the fact that it happened after getting wet, it's hotwired, you SEE no spark and you just bought a non stock coil and you haven't been using an NGK plug.Check all your connections, dry everything out completely and then insulate everything that needs it. Ditch the junk coil, man up and buy the correct Honda one at the de

For sure, you'll get the most out of the 70 kit with the other parts added. I can't say how much benefit you would get with the kit alone. There are alot of options with these bikes. For example, you could go with the 50cc kit and just do a good porting job if you're looking for a bit more performance.

All MB5 cylinders are imported from Asia or from Europe. This likely comes from Asia, which is fine. But, this is a 39mm, or 50cc cylinder. For a little more money, Treats has some sweet 70cc kits from Italy. As long as you're replacing it, why not improve it?

That's a great pic! There aren't many people out there who can drag their knee on an MB5! I wonder how Sava MC11's would have faired in the race.

Find the Honda parts list. Their parts list will give you the type and dimensions of the bolt. Do the same for the nut. Then, go to your neighborhood hardware store and match them up. If you can't find the exact matches, then get creative with washers and locknuts. The nut and bolt are probably available at a Honda shop, too.

Yeah actually not smoking anything... just trying to help you out. Like I said, I've pulled the plug on other (Non MB5) Hondas and a Yamaha. It worked, but they already had disabled lights. After I posted I got to thinking later that you might have to find which wire was the on/off wire and take it out of the circuit. Then you could (possibly!) plug it back together and have the ability to sta

When I did it on another Honda, I just pulled the connector apart and tried to start it. It worked. But, on that one the lights were disabled anyway, so I don't know what the effect on an MB5 lighting setup would be. You could always call a Honda shop and just explain it to them and ask if it will work like I described. It might save you alot of hassle. Otherwise, you can get new repro switch

If it works like other Hondas and you pull apart the connector that is attached to the key switch, it should run fine. I'm not sure about the lights though.

You know, the one Honda refers to as an engine mounting bolt?
briny briny — 9 years ago
Did you reinstall that bolt that went through the airbox and engine?

Have you actually found a Mikuni VM20? If so, where? A real one and not a Chinese knockoff? They've been backordered everywhere for many months due to a flood at their factory in Thailand.

That's a good point because the engines are easy to remove from the bike. On the other hand, this cylinder head nut tightening job is extremely easy to do with the engine in place.1. Loosen top engine mount bolt on head.2. Tighten the four flange nuts in a criss cross pattern to specified torque of 18-22 N-m or 1.8-2.2 kg-m or 13-16 ft-lb.3. Tighten the top engine mounting bolt (at the top of

You should completely loosen the top engine mounting bolt on top of the head when tightening and torqueing the head nuts. If you leave the top engine mounting bolt tight, that means the head position is fixed. Then that also means you are basically trying to pull the engine up. Since the lower engine mounting bolts are tight, you would be creating uneeded stress on the engine by basically trying t

Umm, the point was that $3241 is ALOT of money to pay for a set of AR wheels. Alot. Like WAY too much. I'm with you though, for $3241 I'd much rather have an RZ350.
briny briny — 10 years ago
Is that sweet rust colored chain included?
briny briny — 10 years ago
Haha you gotta be kidding! That's $3218 plus $23 for shipping for a whopping total of $3241! American dollars. You could walk into a Kawasaki dealer and buy a 2012 Ninja 250 for less than $4500. Full Price. With warranty. And a whole helluva lot more. Damn.
