Okay, here's my latest favourite. A classic.

M Lar, you have a strange taste in ads. Especially that first ad.One of my favorites is Treatland's "shirtless freebird!"

Nick,That's a good idea, in fact, a moped store near me in Altson, MA, sent me a pm that they've got a bunch of magazines. I'll start browsing through their stuff once I get a vaccine and Covid abates.Joe

Where's the best place to buy vintage ads?The old ads on-line are nice, but don't print well for me.

> Stephen Keller Wrote:> -------------------------------------------------------> ^ Why not just close petcock and run the carb dry?Because then the carb isn't completely dry. The engine stops when it gets too lean, and some ethanol will remain. By dropping the bowl, and letting things evaporate, you get rid of it better.

I'm interested in doing the conversion , but not a 1 liter at a time. My time has value, at least a little. And also, it seems that there will be a lot of residual water left in the fuel afterward. Who wants that?

Okay, not sure about laying in $ for a larger semi-clear container that's gasoline safe, if I can even find one.

Erich,I've checked everywhere locally, but because Massachusetts is politically left, they've fully adopted the "new green" of ethanol, and that's all. Period. There's a local friendly airport that'll sell me alcohol free aviation gas, but that's got lead in it, which will plug the catalytic converter on one bike. There's also a station by a race track

Don,Most of my vintage bikes are motorcycles, my only moped-like one is a '65 Sears /Gilera 106cc. Going through the process, one liter at a time, to separate the water from the gasoline, is tedious, esp since they use more fuel than a moped.Joe

I've heard that ethanol may harm the rubber/plastic parts of vintage carbs. Are modern Dellorto carbs okay w ethanol?I imagine Italy doesn't use ethanol (no corn lobby there) so they may not be designed for it.Joe

Is there any Taunton, Mass community? I was thinking of starting something, but I'm just not seeing a lot of riders here.

Thanks Andy. I don't haunt Facebook very often, so that's probably why I feel like I'm missing things. I see the LSLB event already posted for 2020!Joe

I had a Pacer, but in a foolish moment I sold it to buy a Batavus (I should have kept both). Here's my question, my old Pacer was marked "super sport." What made that model an SS?Joe

Roffman, so the anti-surge washer is making some engines run lean for you? Any theories why? The washer is held in place by the main jet, so that jet is below the washer. The washer shouldn't impede fuel to it. To the idle jet, maybe. See photo. When in place, the washer is held in by the main jet.
Joe T — 2 years ago
The washer is so small, compared to the size of the float bowl, it would be hard for it to keep much fuel from sloshing. Perhaps it's there to protect the idle jet from getting splashed when cutting the throttle for a quick stop, and killing the engine. The idle jet is right below the washer.Still not sure where the author of the PHBG tuning site on Moped Wiki got that the washer should be

Rebel, I like your theory. I don't see Dellorto adding parts unnecessarily. If it's there, it must have a purpose for most users. The MA article on tuning must have made an error. Joe
Joe T — 2 years ago
A MA article on tuning the PHBG Carb recommended removing the anti-surge washer the sits under the main jet, saying it can block fuel and cause a lean condition. Is this true? It's under the main jet, and I can't see how it would block fuel. If Dellorto put it there, it must serve a purpose.Joe

I've upgraded my '65 Sears/Gilera 106cc 4 stroke to a dellorto PHBG 19mm, race style. The carb came w a 45 idle jet. It's super rich at idle, w the idle mix screw all the way in (to limit idle fuel). Before I send away for smaller jets, I'd like to hear of the experience of others. For a small 4 stroke like this, is a 45 idle jet too much?Joe

Hooligans, this event is this Sunday. Bring your vintage/new Italian machine and take a look at what others have brought.Joe
Joe T — 3 years ago
Thanks Live E, I don't think the shop has that, but that's a good thought.I'm also thinking of some German/Italian cycle books, but I'm not sure how useful they'd be to me.
Joe T — 3 years ago
Rebel, that's my thought exactly. As soon as I put the order, I'll of what I really need. So...that's why I'm asking here. And the seed idea isn't from me. I'm just looking for cycle stuff.Any ideas of moped things from Europe that I should add to my order?
Joe T — 3 years ago
Seeds? Is that euphemism or something?Maybe an oddity from an erotic/horror tale?Or just seeds? I did just plant some Finnish gooseberries, so anything is possible.
