well unfortunately the link doesnt go right to the exact page, but if you pick "motorcycle" then "1998" (or a close year) and then "PW50" it takes you there.
hey nick, i found this for the pw50 and I thought it could be useful all around. its a diagram and parts replacement list for the pieces, i dont know how good the prices are, but the info is good:http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/parts.aspxthis is the same as the QT50 carb right?
what are some major signs that a carb needs a rebuild?
where can those small parts be bought?
Whats the difference between rebuilding a carb and cleaning it?
thanks nick...is gas better/different than gumout?
should you let the carb soak in something if you have time?
I may be getting a Qt50 soon...what kind of tools will i need to get for it? whats in a decent "moped toolbox"? Also, I'll definitely need to clean out the carb...does anyone who's cleaned a Qt50 carb have any advice or a good list of steps to follow...also a good carb cleaner suggestion would be nice. Trying hard to get back on the moped bandwagon after a tragic theft.
whats a coil and where does it run from/to? what does it do? are they very different from bike to bike?
how do you know what kind of spark plug goes in which moped and how to gap it? what does gapping mean? does it have to be perfectly gapped?
what does it usually mean when someone says a moped needs a "tune-up"?
The brakes on my 1979 yamaha chappy are rather squeaky. They work fine but they're loud....is that a bad thing (besides the annoyance)?
haha, still funny though.
whats a throttle, and where is it and what does it look like?
Hi fred, I'll be around this weekend too, i don't have a flat tire, i was just wondering how to do it since i had one before and had to pay someone to do it, which is bad. but i could really use help with figuring out why it won't run properly, i guess cleaning out the fuel lines or something. any time this weekend is good for me except sunday night. I really don't think i shou
where can i get a tire iron? and what is it exactly?
how hard is it to replace a tire tube on a moped? harder than a bicycle? what are the steps generally? what are the conditions when you have to change the actual tire? and finally, what is dry-rot and what does it look like?
wow, thanks. I'm printing this out right now. I do have some rust on my chappy though, what can i do about that?
what are some good things to use to clean parts with?
you don't by chance have any more diagrams for the 79 yamaha chappy do you? I've been looking on ebay and whatnot for a manual but ive only come across the chappy LB80, and I have a 50. I actually haven't found much of anything on the chappy.
this is exciting. I may actually learn to fix something.
ok, thanks. now, since Ive never taken anything apart in my life besides a bicycle and a television....what should i absulotuely do/not do, where should I start and what tools do i need? i have alot of tools but not really mechanics tools, er...i could build a nice box around the moped, but i probably can't take it apart. what should i get?
so i should fist look into cleaning out any foreign junk,..and go from there?
hmm...what does that mean? I don't have enough pressure in my gas tank? I know theres gas in it but there isn't a whole lot. I was hesitating to put more in until I could look into it or something...should I put more in then?
Ok so today i go to start the bike and it just refuses to idle, and yesterday it was idling great! (so i thought anyway)...but anyway....i keep starting it and the only way to get it to keep running is for me to stand there and shake it, whenever i stopped shaking it, it just died out, like it wouldn't get gas unless i was shaking it or revving it. any thoughts? I think I'm getting toget
hmm, well the bike seems to be idling pretty well actually, I had it going today and I think I had the choke open too far and when I gave it gas It seemed to be errr...flooding? does that make sense?, so I shut down the choke more and gave it gas and it sounded better. I got the choke closed farther today than it has been recently. I'm slowly learning how to figure out the choke and rpm sound
So I had some guy take a look at my 79 yamaha chappy and he got it running pretty good but said the carb needed to be tuned to certain specs, but we didn't have the manual so he just tuned it as best he could by sound. what can I do about this? right now Im running the bike with the carb half open and I figure thats not really right....any ideas? do all mopeds have different specs?
this sounds exactly like whats going on with my chappy. very educational...is it a serious problem to fix?
Yes, i love craigslist, I actually just found a guy willing to give it a try. if that doesnt work out then i'll try a lawnmower place. Its really too bad theres no good place to take a moped around here. Id love to keep it but Im just too dopey for the maintenance/repair.
Yeah you're probably right, but I dont have a car or truck to get it anywhere. I could probably figure it out with someone, but I was hoping for someone to come over and do it. But hey, If anyone in BOSTON can fix this bike, I WILL figure some way to get it to your place, let me know!
