I don't have one of those timing devices that screw into the spark plug hole but I do have a degree wheel. Anybody know when the points should open on a '70 40V Mobylette? Just slightly before TDC i'm guessing but how many degrees. Thanks

anyone know where I can rent, borrow or buy a clutch puller for a 70's mobylette?

Just replaced the condensor in my Moby with one from a "51 chevy from the local autoparts place. Cost only a few bucks, is from a 6 volt system and is small enough to fit in there, you just need to make up a bracket. Just incase you can't find original equipment. I fitted it into an existing operating bike to double check and it worked great and I think the spark at the plug was even

Check to see if the gas cap vent hole is plugged.

Thanks for all your advice everbody, i've tried everything I can think of and nothing changes so I'm building a new motor for it! I have the bits so I'll see if that helps. I'll let you know Kevin

Finally got a spark from the abandoned '70 Mobylette and got it running, sort of. It fires up and accelerates but won't idle. Just before it's going to die if I close the throttle all the way(choke) and then give it some gas it will pick up speed nicely but then after a few seconds will die again unless I repeat the same procedure. I know what it sounds like and I have 2 carbs to

Hi Mike, just finished a Duc resto myself but of a 250 bevel drive single. I got a lot of help from a fellow in Toronto who deals mostly with 250 ducs but has an amazing collection and is worth a try. I'll try to find his address, send me a pic of your bike if you can. Kevin

Does anyone know where I can get some new brake shoes for my 1970 mobylette 40V ? How about a new or used but complete engine stop switch for the same, the one mounted on the left side handlebar that I think is also the horn button but mine is missing the bit that turns. Thanks

40 v mobylette, '71. Anyone know how much voltage should I be able to measure if I connect a voltmeter across the two magneto outlets? I'm getting just a blip on the meter, maybe that's why there is no spark????

I have 1970 40V Mobylette that has no spark which I am tying to fix, but it also has no lights when I pedal (really fast! ) I've dismantled and cleaned the main switch on the handlebar and also checked and cleaned the one in the headlamp shell. If there is an ignition problem (no spark) should the lights work anyway? Is it a separate circuit or does everything have to be working to get lights

Heres a photo of how I got the mag off. Worked like a charm, just need a couple of hose clamps, a metal rod (I used a socket extension) a piece of wood or metal to distribute the forces so you don't punch a hole in the floorboard and a 3/4" drive socket with a piece of pipe slipped over the end for mechanical advantage and off she comes! Bad news is I'm still searching for that elus

still no spark after cleaning points so I'm going to remove them as there is continuity across the open points! ( short? ) I have no manual to tell me when the points should open....how many degrees before TDC. Can anyone help?? thanks 1970 Motobecane " Mobylette "
Kevin Ibbetson — 18 years ago
Found a 1970 motobecane "mobylette" that was running when parked 8 yrs. ago. It looks pretty good overall but has no spark, checked all the usual stuff, plug, high tension lead, ground, electrical connections in the headlight . Next step is to have a look at the magneto under that cover with the big square hole in it. Is that a nut? I've tried the liquid wrench on it and used a s

do you have a working fuel petcock for a '70 Mobylette? How about a working speedo for the same? Thanks Kevin

Hey Mikey, I've got a '81 Vespa P200 with oil injection that I have disabled and all the people I know with them do the same. Oil injection might work very well but when it doesn't it won't let you know ahead of time. I don't have a problem pre-mixing at the pump you just need a little jug or something that you carry on the bike that is calibrated for say 3 liters of gas
