Want to add although the starter cable *does* unscrew from the outside, trying to catch the threads on the inside from the outside is hero grade level patience. Dunno if its the cable on the inside that throws you off but I've spent hours trying to screw it back in from the outside, catch and slip, so close...lol Most times it was easier/quicker to pull the gears and thread it from the insi

Fate threw me a bone and I will be able to make it down, running moped or no. I'll have cash to buy a cheap stocker either way. Can't wait, never been to Philly.

Puch Athena 38mm small reedblock and Treats peoples pipe. Molested both and replaced with same, though less ported so far. Pared with 24 oko and a ZA50. And vforce/hpi turning 19*36 gearing. Over 60 and temps around 330-360

This can be applied to all fuels, great useful info. Thanks for sharing. As far as cars go E85 has proven itself to be less efficient than dino juice in both latent energy (more fuel for same output) and curbing emissions. Only benefit (assuming natural aspiration) is higher octane/ slower burn rate allowing higher CRs and more advanced timing. Adding toluene or xeylene in the 10-20% range to

Top fuel engines are 8.2L v8. 8000 horsepower conservatively. My statement stands. We using drag racing or land speed as benchmarks locations? Would it matter? Again what transmission would handle this? Def not belts, sorry variated fans...

Math fail. 50cc 1/20 a liter, or 125 Hp. Seems legit with nitrometh and 10# of boost. Good luck reinforcing your gear train though, you're on your own

I agree with the original back of the envelope numbers, i.e. about 500ish. Ten times the displacement or 1000hp/ltr is the limit in production block drag racing. Until something is invented/ comes along to push the envelope further like kers or such. Turbo + NO2 + propane inj might get us close, I'll be trying...

I've lived here 14 years, no locals call it that. Smallbany, yes. I rode in a chase/press vech. the first year, never rode myself (work weekends). The route is fun and scenic, the mood relaxed. A rally it is not.

I rock an anthena small reed 50, flipped 2nd, dio reedblock, treats peeps pipe, 21 oko, 2 wire ducati geared at 20x36. Take off is decent, shifts at 28-32. My tach reads way high but hits warp speed higher up in the rpms, no less than 7-8K. Then the revs soar well past 12k. No speedo nor smartphone but blasts posted 45mph traffic. Kudos to the OP for hitting those speeds, keep pushing the lim

Anyone ever try propane? Easily miscible w o2, octane over 100. Many old turbo cars and diesel use propane injection. Just to add to the novel gas powered discussions. True story- plastic reed cages don't like n02, they go brittle and break. The engine loved it though.

I say unless you are doing something that requires pulling the crank don't bother. Loosen up the left control and take the whole thing off w the engine. When the engine is buttoned up that clutch nut is a PITA to rescrew into the nub receiver. You can still service the trans/ do clutch flip/ ruin stuff without ever loosing that nut. My .02

Stroke affects RPM limits more than bore, but generally smaller bores generate higher peak torque, pushing rpm's (and HP) higher. My 50cc athena on my za out reved both the 70 MK and athena 70. I remember reading in the 2 stroke handbook that the port duration shrunk if the bore is altered as is,and my 50 and 70 athena's port areas are identical in size. Intake length affects intake

How does one go about figuring out what the natural resonance of a particular reed? My google-fu brought up accordion reeds, so I hope someone here is more informative. I'd imagine area + weight + deflection but unsure if there are other variables to consider. I got a hacked 50cc athena/dio block that I'd love to optimize... Thanks for any insight/ help.

I liked my athena 50cc kit so much (even though I mangled the exhaust studs, toasted a big end conrod bushing, and one of the metal reeds broke) that I bought the 70cc kit. I'm still breaking it in, riding as much as possible up here in the 518. I'm smitten with the ZA even though I'm on engine #3.

Bump, Scott.Yeah, that's my engine. I learned on my stock piston and jug why you don't put holes on the intake side- blowback and over fueling at idle and low revs. I was able to plug the hole with JB and ride as normal, lesson learned. Now reed valves on the other hand rather enjoy the added intake timing without puking it back out of the carb. Experiment and learn, nothing beats ha
