Leo,are the carbs loose on that 400? That is, will the throttle move?

used to run a 160 dream. loved it.building back up a CL90, a CT 200 (OHV90) and maybe a Ct90.We'll see.well done.

It seems to me that adding airfuel mix at the top of the cylinder has a major problem. Engines run because of the explosive charge when air/fuel mix is compressed to 110 psi and then ignited. opening a port at the top of the jug will create a major compression loss and reduce power considerably. Even a turbo would only blow it in at about 16 psi.Leon

I wouldn't bother with a bike exhaust...they are set up for bigger engines and more exaust flow.2,000 RPM sounds kinda slow for a little 2 stroke..

Whew! What was your friend smoking?lets see, brake pads pushing against the rear sprocket...3 scenarios (assuming you acutually could get the calipers mounted somewhere)#1 Your chain lube greases the sprocket so when you squeeze the handle you have no brakes.#2 The brakes actually work and heat all the lubricant off the chain and the chain breaks.#3 The sprocket grinds grooves into the pads ver

Ya wanna tell us what ped you are wrenching on? carb spring? which carb?
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
Unless you are doing this just for show, don't bother. thieves will just pick it up.
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
errr, unless you like 20 mph Honda's you ought to replace both. You can't be getting decent compression with that cylinder that bad.
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
you said cheap...Most are carbon zinc, non-rechargable
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
Err Ryan, If you think you need to turn a car piston to TDC before you pull the head....Which piston should be at TDC?Doesn't matter on a car or a moped.if you have a ditcam, taking photos all the way is a good idea, though I'm not sure why you are tearing it down when all you NEED to do is clean the tank, and carb and add a filter.upper and lower manifolds? huh ?intake and exhauat perha

2 warnings,if you are going to use such a thing. make sure you have good fuel supply at the proper mix. Don't score you cylinder.Figure out where your drill is going to go if the engine fires up

Wow, You've done it up right. Beautiful almost looks like it should have a custom brake light. What is the car behind it in pic #4? We don't have those in the USA

There is a great CT90 Yahoo group. Those guys know this bike isnide and out. I'd ask there. I just don't know them well enough to hlep you.

have you checked the timing.Did it run before the points were changed?
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
Have you cleaned the points? Is teh battery charged? No significant diffferences in the bikes.. carb/intake may be slightly different though.Jax184 has a great article on the wiki.many NC50's don't have removable jsts, you'll have to open yours up to see. You might have to add more air restriction.Don't know about tires.

Do some reading..http://www.mopedriders.org/html/manuals/garelli/csm/garellicsm.htmcheck pic 28 on page 22The arrow poinys to the plug where you check your tranny fluidGet an insulated wire, strip the ends, Fasten one to a bolt/nut on the engine. fasten the other end to a piece of the tail light housing, Tie the wire up so it won't get cought in the tire or chain.
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
1. many peds don't need keys, not sure about your Garelli.mne didn't.2. You might need a better ground for your tail/brake light. Add a ground wire from the light to your frame and see what happens.3. if you have enough adjustment in your cable you may have an easy fix. if not you may have to replace the rubber clutch parts.. Oh wait// have you checked tranny fluid?4. #2 might fix this

Hmm intersting. Yea , I was wondering if you were sucking air through the injector-engine line, but now that I know more I,m pondering. I'd certainly take the line off the injector side and plug it to see if it makes a difference. Yea, the pump would be forcing air into the intake, I think. And BTW if you run the oil pump wiith out oil, you'll toast it soon. Don't know what else it
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
This has many symptoms of an air leak between the carb and the cylinder somewhere. Ccheck for sir sucking at the carb/intake and the intake/cylinder joints. also check to make sure your oil tube is connected at the intake and the other end.use your rear brake, dropping it off the kickstand at hgigh revs's cant be good for teh drive train.Reserve is a petcock setting. it opens a lower pipe in
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
Clean and dry everything and then put just a cup of fuel into the tank. look for it to leak. might just be a fuel line.until you know where the leak is you won't know where to start.

clean and check your float valve

great

a non venting gas cap can also cause it to starve. crack the cap open and ride.
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
Have you looked at fuel suppply before the carb?NEW spark plugs make a big difference, too
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
Do Not touch the clutch while the engine is running, you'll just mess stuff up.If you moped is running properly the back wheel should just barely turn, if at all, with the engine at idle and on the stand. Not happening in your case. You have a centrifical clutch that engages or disengages in response to engine rpm. OR at least thats the way it was built.either your idle speed is way too fast..

you need a special tool to take the old one off. that's all I know.
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
well done. leave the screw where it is happy. Factory settings were for new machines in perfect shape. It may get faster as you give it some exercise, I gained 1 mph when I cleaned my fuel filter.
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
looks like it ought to work well doneI had one cracked adn full float.I turned it so it would seep out for a few days, dried off the outside and covered the crack with gasket sealer. It floated again and worked for years.
Leon Swarmer — 13 years ago
on the 81 take off the float bowl, check and see if the float is cracked and letting fuel in ( hope not) and htat it can hinge like it should.more likely is dirt on the tiny black tip of the float valve that the float operates. take it down., clean it and you should be good.Do you have a bettery in the 82? Are the bulbs themselves good or have they all popped?

How about, "Wait more than 13 minutes before reposting near midnight."?
