Hi guys,I'm super duper excited about my new vm20 carb. Only problem is my stock domino throttle doesn't seem to have enough pull to open the new toy all the way. Anyone have any experience with this/recommend a good high performance throttle/cable that I could install?Summer is cruising by, I must get riding again.thanks

Maybe a 19mm intake + 19mm Dellorto PHBG? Or a 16.16 SHA? What you got?
Greg Lutz — 12 years ago
Thanks dudes, all makes sense. Probably should have waited on that new carb before attempting a long ride.
Greg Lutz — 12 years ago
Haven't take apart the carb... whatever is stock in a 14/12? Assuming 12mm intake. Been planning on replacing both parts so i didn't investigate enough.

Troubleshooting:Garelli SSXL LTD running 14/12 dellorto (may replace with something bigger soon), polini 70cc, gianelli circuit pipe. Broke down about 30-40 minutes into fucking rally. Engine died at stoplight, white smoke leaking out of cylinder/exhaust gasket. Ped wouldn't start up after this but hours later started and running great (though I haven't gone more than 2 miles and avoidin

Update: still waiting on my intake to put on my kit and carb, and the pipe definitely needs to be bent. It seems to have been constructed to fit my kit, but it hits the clutch casing no matter what. Somewhat frustrating. Luckily there's a place down the street that does it for ten bucks. Should be ready and kitted up before Bomb Prom!
Greg — 14 years ago
I've only heard that it'll need some slight bending, the part should be here this afternoon, then I'ma head to the shop and see what's up. I'll keep you posted.
Greg — 14 years ago
any chance someone could link to the appropriate intake so I know exactly what you're talking about? Thanks.
Greg — 14 years ago
17.5 came in a package deal. TM3 apparently needs a bit of bending to fit just right, but I'll let you know when it gets here. so for the 17.5, what will I have to do to make it fit a polini intake?
Greg — 14 years ago
Hey mates, I've got a 17.5 PHBG, polini kit and a TM3 exhaust for my garelli ssxl. Very excited as this is my first real mod. One question: what intake manifolds would everyone recommend?love, greg.
Greg — 14 years ago
deep blue already has 11/30 gearing, I believe I also have a 50 that came with it. Should I swap in the 50 until I up the ante with some of these performance mods? Hill in the nati are awful.
Greg — 14 years ago
also will I need a larger intake?
Greg — 14 years ago
Just to clear up, will a 16/16 work well with the rest of my bike being stock? Will it work better/worse after I eventually add exhaust and kit? Thanks for the tips.
Greg — 14 years ago
for a bit more info, the ssxl is stock at the moment, runs super duper rich, the current carb floods badly (won't start unless I keep the petcock off when not running), top speed maybe 33 with a really horrible low end experiencing lots of hill kill (this is my main frustration atm).

Hey mates, I'm beginning to customize my Garelli supersport xl ltd and am trying to decide which carb to get, any feedback?
Greg — 14 years ago
Just got done with a nice cincy ride after a few fixin's courtesy Jake at tbs. I've got a 11/30 setup now but am thinking more an more with the hills in cincy about changing to the 11/50...but its hard to relinquish any speed once you get that feeling on open ground..

I got it from Marshall Reinhart in Bloomington. It does not have an oil injector, so I assume it's been removed. My camera's on loan atm, otherwise I'd add some pics.

Thanks guys, that's the first stuff I'll try once I get to a garage. Long term plans include new exhaust, carb and manifold but I'm wondering: do the polini 70cc kits work on the two-speed NOI motor? I've already heard that they do from the seller, but just want to make sure before I buy anything.

Just got a moped! 1980 Garelli SSXL LTD original blue. Very pretty, ran great when I bought it and yesterday while I was cruising in Indiana. Now, back in Cincinnati and she's having trouble starting. I won't have tools available until later when I meet up with TBS, but here are some symptoms in case anyone can suggest a quick fix for this fine day:Carb is flooding with Gas after a while

I'm upgrading my supersport xl ltd with a nice new pipe soon, and want to get the rest to match. I'm looking for a polini kit, a PHBG carb (preferably 16/16 or larger) and an appropriate intake to match. I had a deal with someone else for all these parts, but haven't gotten a response back for a while so to the forums it is!
