took everything off again and cleaned it, re-did the wiring with spade connectors and now it's running great! thanks everyone.

Ok, so I turned the screwe all the way in and backed it out two turns, then I sprayed some starter fluid into the cylinder hole and used the same spark plug and it started this time and died right away. Now that I know it's a fuel thing I guess i'm gonna clean the carb again, though i'm not sure where the problem lies, the slide works fine, the petcock/line/filter is not clogged, a

Thanks for the help, yes it's a bing, i am definitely getting fuel flow through the petcock, fuel line, and carb. The plug is wet when I pull it out after trying to start it, and I am still getting a spark when I hold the plug to the engine and pull the lever/turn the pedals. It was woking so good before I messed with the stupid screw!

as far as I know, yes fuel is getting to the cylinder, the carb seems to be working properly, the throttle and slide are smooth. What would be the best way to make sure it is getting in there? also, this might be obvious but can a fouled plug still have spark?

I just bought a 1978 free spirit from a friend that was not running. I cleaned the carb , replaced the fuel line, added a filter, replaced the spark plug boot, put in a new spark plug, and hardwired it. The bike started right up and was running well, I rode it up and down the street a couple of times, killing the bike and starting it every time i stopped back at the garage. It seemed like it w
