Well, let's see here. Your choices are Metra, or Metra.

Hey Mark, is that noise you're getting like the noise my head gasket was making on the Maxi? The one that I used scotch tape to hold up out of the way?

There's a whole article in the wiki about tuning PHBGs. I'm pretty sure that diagram came from the Dell'orto tuning manual.Check it: "How to tune PHBG Carbs":http://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/How_To_Tune_PHBG_Carburetors

Something similar to this happened to my '76 Maxi a couple weeks back. I had to take the flywheel off to repair the solder joint at the condenser, and I somehow managed to lose the woodruff key without realising it. Put the flywheel back on, set the timing, and tried to start it. Nothing. Had spark, good compression (just rebuilt the top end), and good fuel flow. Turns out, without the woodru

Are the points and condenser supposed to be wired in parallel instead of series? I don't know peugeots, but that might be your problem.
sam — 14 years ago
I think you misunderstood. The wire running from the coil to the condenser (the points and condenser are in series on my bike) came loose, which was why I stopped getting a spark. So I cleaned it up and soldered it back on. And then went through all the rest of my wiring, checked everything, and replaced what needed to be replaced. Everything should be wired correctly now.
sam — 14 years ago
You shouldn't need to mess with the float, assuming the replacement float you got was the same weight as stock. Couple things more to check: Is it leaking anywhere? Carb, cylinder, exhaust, etc.? Loss of compression or a leak can really screw with your engine.

I'm fairly positive the spark is good, I spent about 4 hours yesterday getting all the electrical set. Bernard, when you say lower the needle do you mean richer or leaner? My carb isn't completely tuned yet anyway, I'm still waiting for a new jet.
sam — 14 years ago
You should be able to, your lights might be dim though.

I don't know hondas super well, but I think you can use the universal petcocks Benji has up on treats. Did you check the part on the carb that the fuel line connects to? Those things like to clog up. Cleaning the entire carb certainly wouldn't hurt for that matter.
sam — 14 years ago
When you cleaned the tank, what kind of shape was the petcock in? Did you replace the fuel line and put on an inline filter?

So I finally got my electrical figured out (disconnected wire to the condenser), and I went and rode around for a while. It was running great, up until it started backfiring. I checked the timing, and it was a little late, so I advanced it. I got a lot better power out of the engine after (better torque, 2-3 mph higher top speed), but after riding for a while it started backfiring again. Checked t

Get a new headlight and a tail light bulb first, and while you wait for that to get to you check the wiring from the stator all the way back to the tail light. The wiring is bad somewhere if you're still getting power to your headlight wire(they're attached to the same coil in the stator). Check the connection to the lighting coil on the stator in particular, soldered connections like to

Cool. I ended up just hardwiring everything, no light switches, no horn, none of that. Thanks guys.
sam — 14 years ago
On the 5-wire block shown in the diagram, where does the grey wire go? The horn? The taillight? I get every thing else, its just that mysterious grey wire...
sam — 14 years ago
I have a '76 Maxi, and the wires coming out of the stator are the same as in that diagram. I know that the blue goes to the HTC and the kill switch, green black goes to ground, yellow goes to headlight, and green goes to brake lights. But where does the grey wire go? and how are the headlight and horn wired in?
sam — 14 years ago
My horn doesn't work right now, I dunno if it's cause of bad wiring or a bad horn or what. Should I just ground it out?
sam — 14 years ago
I know this might sound dumb, but when you re-attach your fuel line to your carb, do you tickle it before you try to start it again? When I replaced the lines on my Maxi I freaked out because when I opened the petcock fuel wouldn't flow into the filter, but when I pulled the line off the carb and fed it into a bucket, fuel flowed fine when I opened the petcock. An easy way to tell if you have

Two questions:1. Is there supposed to be crossover between two different linked sections on the wiring block? I made a diagram of what I mean. Sorry if it sucks, I'm a little high right now. Anyways...2. What's the gauge of all the wiring throughout the ped? And where can I get more in all the different funky colors?I'm checking all the wiring and replacing any that might be bad cau

Email sent. I'll probably take whatever you've got for those hubs.
st. paul sam — 14 years ago
You got any snowflake hubs?
st. paul sam — 14 years ago
I might have to grab one of these. How much do you want for local?
sam — 14 years ago
You can usually find these new through either 1977, treats, or qk. They're about 40 bucks if I remember right.
samalamadingdong — 14 years ago
How much are you looking to get for it? I have no idea what these usually go for.
samalamadingdong — 14 years ago
Trying to get an idea if there are any out there, if someone would be willing to part with one, and how much I'm gonna need to pay for it. Curiosity at this point, but if someone has one they'd be willing to part with a little closer to winter I might be interested for the right price.
Sam — 14 years ago
Looking for the switches shown in the picture(not shiny silver Maxi stock style switches). I can get em online, but I'm a cheapass and dont wanna pay like 90 bucks for em new. Anybody willing to part with some? I live in MN, but am willing to pay shipping and throw in a little extra for your trouble. Email works best to get in touch.

leave it deflated. you gotta check to make sure the tube isnt pinched between the bead and the rim before you fill it otherwise youll pop it and have to start all over again. sucksss
st. paul sam — 13 years ago
hmm. a n8p would probably be a bit much, if only they made a right mount 4p. have you played around with port timing on these at all? i haven't pulled the top end off yet, we just got it running last week.
st. paul sam — 13 years ago
yeah, i saw what you were talking about and i'll definitely check it out. otherwise i was gonna use the little overlap on the stock header to get a good attachment.
