I’ll add that up until that last two summers I hadn’t seen one fail. The last two summers I have had 2-3 leak excessively when off but still function for riding. I ended up replacing them but these oil injectors are pretty dang solid.
I have always put the YT60 oil pump in under the assumption it’s tuned differently. The service manual shows differing amounts of oil pumped between the pumps and they have a distinguishing visual in the pulley in that the YT60 is stamped 36R and the QT/LC/MJ/PW are stamped 3L5.I run the oil injection so I can ride around and just fill up at gas stations and top off my oil tank. No guessing mixtur
Over the years I’ve built a little collection. I have 5 QT’s, a Towny and a LC50 Champ. My towny is quickest of all right now with a peoples pipe, malossi, pw80 carb and yt60 oil pump, boyesen reeds, malossi head.My quickest QT has the advanced flywheel key, circuit pipe, YT60 top end, pw80 carb and yt60 oil pump, milled head, reeds, pw gears. Put a razz lighting coil in it for 12V lighting.Champ i
I wish I knew why it wasn’t listed for the QT50, LC50, and MJ50. I’ve rebuilt the LC50 petcock with that goofy diaphragm and replaced it in some QT petcocks, I was just trying to figure out the rubber washer size in nut and under the plastic cup.Partzilla has them for reasonable.https://www.partzilla.com/product/yamaha/266-24523-00-00?ref=e51efa3b8204c4eb4b48a0c943ab7fdfb5bc9943If you’re looking
I saw you’re looking at the advanced timing key. I tried them and you get some power but the first ride I was glad I was on a Yamaha cylinder. They are just so durable! I stuck 3 times on the way home within 2 miles but I popped in a jet 3 sized bigger and it ran great. Kept up with a malossi all season.Have you done the boyesen reeds yet?I try to keep my head temp in the 400+/- 50 range. I’ve ha
It’s been hard to find the time after getting married and two kids to scroll around the forums. It’s a better use of time than other social media though! That’s cool that you followed some of my old builds. I’ve still been tinkering over the years and have some too fast for their brakes 80’s Yamahas. Been playing with the variety of MLM pipes and finally got around to a malossi top end last year fo
The LB50 4 hole gasket fits, one hole is smaller than the other 3 but it fits and it works, no leaks.Do those american sized gaskets shown earlier in the convo actually fit the nut and the fuel cup?
Here is the pic for those interested.
Hi Sonya,Did you check the fuse? That is the right battery for a QT50, even looks new.You will probably want a trickle charger that can do 1.5 amps on a 6v battery for charging.
Been a while since I chimed in on here again, a friend and I did figure out you can buy the People’s pipe for the QT, cut a good chunk of the rear bracket off and just bolt it to what’s left of the bracket. I did it on a Towny but the new generation Peoples Pipe doesn’t sacrifice ground clearance like the old. Thought I’d share.I also have a Malossi on my champ, a Mikuni VM15 (pw80 carb), yt60 oil
I know it’s an old thread but 3L5 is stamped on the qt50 ring gear. It’s the smaller pinion.3L6 is on PW50, LC50, and MJ50 ring gears.
Take your ohm meter and read the black wire w/red stripe off the stator. Its a single plug, should be near your ignition coil. Check the resistance on that wire to ground, should be over 300 ohms. If its not then you have a bad charge coil.
Did you take those bulbs out and verify that they are 6v lights? I'd just replace them anyways... cheap insurance for someone to see you when you get out riding.
Full choke? Take your air filter off and choke it with your hand too and see if you can get it going. Take your pilot jet out of and blow it all out again, happens... And set your air screw to 1.25 turns out for a starting spot. Some of them are more cold blooded than others. Also, I have re-built and modified at least 20 of these for friends and family and the only oil injector that I had fail
Any update on a pipe that fits a Champ? I wanted to buy a MLM People's pipe but wanted to know if it fits. I tried a first gen Next Gen MLM pipe but it didn't fit well. I could make it fit with some adjustments but its on my QT again.

The only disadvantage to the bigger boring is that it is the last piston size that Yamaha sells. So, if it sticks really bad there will not be another piston size available if boring/honing are necessary.Otherwise, yes it is quite literally bolt and go. You'll need a new base gasket and a new head gasket. It wouldn't hurt to have a new piston pin, bearing and circlips as well when ins

Is it just the key or the switch itself that "bite the dust?" If you can read the 4 digit number on the ignition switch a locksmith can make you a duplicate key.
I'm looking for a decent fuel tank for a QT50. Let me know what you've got, color is not important. Also, whats the price shipped to firstname.lastname@example.org or PM me
I was directing this towards noobster who said his qt only went 25. Or whatever he was talking about.I was having good luck with the 70 jets in my stock qt, and a 75 with my 60 and the stock carb. With my pw80 carb I don't even know what jet size i'm running other than by the orfice drill bits i used to ream it out little by little watching my cylinder head temp and when it leveled off
