I keep toying with the idea of getting my '80 Moby back up to mint condition, but I'm not sure it's worth the expense.Example: The headlight rim is very rusty, and I wonder if I should have it re-chromed. I'm guessing that the cost might be $50-$70, and I might be able to get a whole new headlight with rim/well for less than that. However, it might not be the original make.I co

So, just to update this moldy old thread. After much hard work on his part (at a very reasonable price), steve got my Moby up and running like a purring puma.I'm not sure what all he did, but I do know he put on a new carb, some new tires (the old ones wouldn't hold air), and some sweet buddy pegs so I could go for cuddle rides with my gf.He was a total professional.Don't let his som

Hey, thanks for all the tips/comments!I'm hoping to have it inspected be Steve. Hopefully, we can breathe some new life into her.Any tips on the best product to remove the rust? Obviously, some parts are going to need scrapping (the chain, etc.) but I'm hoping just to clean up the superficial rust and . . . seal it?I'm more of a pc tech guy . . . and I'm from Seattle. I didn

. . . hmmmm. What happens if I can't find the key to this thing?BTW, my father, who had restored a couple of UK motorcycles, couldn't find the trouble with the moby . . .Then again, a Moby isn't a Triumph.

. . . I almost forgot. If you look at my profile you'll see that I put down that this is a 1980 model, but I actually have no idea what model year it is.

So, I've got this non-functioning Moby that's been sitting under a tarp for 3 years. Hand-me-down from my pops, who had given it to my younger brother. Well, my brother decides to make a ramp/jump for it one day, takes off, lands it, and the Moby simply died after that. Simply wouldn't start. Now I've got this scooter, that I would love to use, but I have no mechanical skills an

Have fun all!Decided that I'm too friggin' old to make it. Seriously; my sciatica is acting up something fierce, my rotator cuff smarts like hell, and I have to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes (thanks prostate!)You kids have fun, and try not to drink too many vodka-Moxie slammers!

Definitely considering it. At the very least, I'll buy a shirt or something if you make any.

If you've got some rope lying around and you don't want to buy the ratchet straps, you'd want to use a trucker's hitch knot to secure the bike. I used to think "why bother," but I didn't have my bed lined, and I ended up with a nasty gouge. There are lots of videos and step-by-step instructions online for the hitch. One is below:http://www.expertvillage.com/video/

I may get the hook for this but "Scoot!" is a pretty cool magazine.Yes, it almost always just about scooters but you can just order their Dec. 2007 issue which is described on their site as follows:Scoot! #43 Dec 2007$5.95Moped Army Swarm and Destroy graphic novel review & author interview South America via Moped Peace Scooter Tour Hollywood Holt "Throw a Kit on It" Reviews

I'm not into the idea of throwing a kit on a standard bicycle (I'll stick to my Moby) but I saw this "deal" as the headline on dealnews.com, a site I hit up regularly, so I just thought I'd throw it out there.Again, not for or against, but here it is quoted from dealnews:"HandHeldItems.com offers the Motorized Bicycle Engine 50cc Kit for $124.99. In the same issue, in a ttally separate column, they answer some reader question about whether a ped is good for the environment because of the mpg. They say that 2-stroke peds are more polluting than a new chevy truck.Frankly, I don't ride my ped for more than maybe 30 minutes at a time so I don't feel that bad a about it, but I was totally ignorant to that.

All good thoughts!Full disclosure: I'm an idiot when it comes to mechanical stuff. But in answer to some of your questions/comments:- Yeah, it's a 1980 50v.- moped army member steve did a dellorto swap out on it a couple of months ago (the oem carb was totally shot and steve did a great job).- I think the decomp works just fine . . . running starts are no problem.I just spent a little tim

Walking start, huh . . .Not sure that mine would be that cooperative. Usually I have to run along side and try my best not to pull back on the accelerator when it tries to break free like an angry dog on a leash. My choke doesn't function, though. Maybe repairing that would increase my ability to walk-start it.

I have a heck of a time starting my Moby while pedaling with the stand down. Unless the bike is perfectly balanced (one side, left or right, can't be tipped even a fraction) I can't seem to get a full rotation out of the pedals. It's not like they simply won't turn (they will) but it seems like I can't get any leverage to keep it turning. Basically, I'll get the left
