That is exactly what I did but I used a KTM clutch and some hi strength and hi temp epoxy for the friction material (for starting). The pressed steel ring adds a lot of rotational mass, which led me to shearing my bell form the gear I think. After reinforcing that the set up lasted close to a year until the clutch wore out.

Lightening your stock flywheel doesn't make a noticeable difference. Just two much rotational mass in the magnets.

The bike ran fine for years with the kit. I recently put the carb, pipe and variator on and that is when it started trying to kill me. I have cleaned and checked the points, but have not messed with the timing.

Ryan Murray — 14 years ago
The bike is a pyramid reed with a well broken in metrakit 65cc kit, phbg 19mm race carb, 118 main jet (witch seems big to me but any smaller the plug turns gray), 45 idle and the needle is a w9 all the way up. A homemade puch simonini pipe. tjt variator (2 green rollers filled with solder and 4 blue filled with resin all together they weigh about 2oz). I have machined some material off of the rear

I used honda mb5 wheels and some fork that I had laying around.
Ryan Murray — 14 years ago
