Rainy day--first time in many years I decide to look at the Army for old time's sake and I see this. Larry is a great guy, pedders are lucky to have him. But I wish he had warned me about Damn Mobys.

Tempus fugit.I'll be 80 in September so I ride slowly around on a Yamaha Vino. Meeting kids like Larry and Angel and ... was the best part of this hobby. Selling the last Moby was good too.

And oh it's a wonderful feeling isn't it? Larry--13 years ago you got me started on these French bitches and I never properly thanked you for it--made all my subsequent bikes a simple pleasure to work on.As Steven says, they do ride and look nice but at a price. For years my wife thought I was on my knees begging them to run.Yep--in retirement it's all about letting go. Damn Mobys.

I'm also retired from peds. At 78.5 it's a vision and balance matter, I wouldn't want to hurt anybody. I agree, though, that two up on a Moby is a good idea, one to watch over the ped while one walks away for help.We have two two strokes, a Metro and a 40mph Vino, easy to start, dependable toilet bowls. Still enjoy reading the posts here.

I'm lurking the MA for the first time in six months and see your post Larry. Yup, the good kids I met with their tattoos and rings and friendly helpful attitude kept me interested in peds past my "ride by" date. They make the moped hobby unique.

Remember your tailgate has a "tilt" setting by shortening up the support cables, this might give you enough and still clear bike on carrier. Or merely angling the bike. Don't fuss about it, just drive up to Larry's place and figure it out. If your wife is muscular enough she can help you lift off tailgate and leave it at home. (However I wouldn't suggest anything if one o

I should consider the Triped for me and my gal. About the only way we could ride together. Then again, I'd kind of like to find a Bette Davis ped.(Anyone looking for a moped or parts or tools, remember you can't go wrong dealing with Mopedlar.)

Well I think that an ad for a "Bette Davis" moped is a classic--clearly only appreciated by us. Non-pedders can't get it. There are lots of articles about the funny messages created when auto correction meets careless writers. This one brought a smile to my face.I'm pretty much retired nowadays but the woeful grammar and spelling skills of the good people on this site has alwa

I have the solution. I smoked for 60+ years and tried most of the usual things including nicotine replacements. No joy. Then I heard about the book by Allen Carr, "The easy way to stop smoking". Some people call it "the magic book" and I can see why. I quit 2.6 years ago and it was almost easy to do. Read it and quit--this former pedder and smoker wishes all the youngsters who

Nate, here's the best advice you'll get.Listen to Mopedlar.

Holy Cow guys! I can't believe the interest in this bike. What the hell, it's just another ped. I got about 30 PM's since this morning. Tonight It's going to a lovely young pedder not too far from York.I want to thank all of you who messaged me, lots of nice folks on the MA site. And I guess I should say "goodbye" since I'm down to two scooters, two strokers for s

Whoops--it's an SL not SLE. The folding baskets work nicely. And just another bike I wish I hadn't sold.

This is what I found in the barn loft, covered with 10 years of dust. Can you imagine how excited I was? The Variant is one comfortable and dependable ride. If nobody on MA grabs it, I'll tell the wife we'll save it for the grandkid.

Moby taillight, guess Mick missed it, cables, fuel lines, plugs, official Derbi tool kit, and a Pacer kit, manuals.
Jerry Franek — 5 years ago
Tool box with an assortment of little stuff for peds in general. Pick two of the hats, leave one for me.
Jerry Franek — 5 years ago
All stock, 1667 miles, PA title, extra stuff, just a sweet ride.I’ve got to let her go because I’m older than dirt now and I skidded on some winter gravel last week on a nostalgic ride on the Derbi and it’s time for toilet bowl scooters. This is my last ped so you’ve got to take my stash of tools and pieces off my hands also so I won’t be tempted any more. This Derb is one of the very few old bike

Yeah, well god bless you, Steven, i've never met a Moby like that. I would love to ride one someday. Although I just know I wouldn't get far and the wife would have to bring the truck to pick me up. Maybe we just don't know how to talk to them.(damnmobys)

My first couple peds were these Frenchies, and while I liked the look and geometry and ride comfort, I soon learned that everything Mopedlar said was right. I was spending more time on my knees alongside the peds than I was riding. Got some Austrian and Italians and never parked them close to a Moby. Mick from Baltimore took all my Moby machines, tools and supplies and I've never looked bac

See, this is why I gave up on Mobys.Damn Mobys.

I've had good success with hot vinegar soaking, multiple rinses, finally a POR-15 coating. Looks good, lasts forever I believe. POR-15 is wonderful stuff, properly prepped and applied.

On the other hand, he's laying around sweating on the gulf, bright sun in his eyes, with a beer and we got three inches of snow yesterday to play with the dogs in.Hope he gets vapor locked.

That's cute, Luigi. Yeah, Lar is the best friend a pedder could have. He shares and helps everyone out. His local SPCA got the proceeds from a bike auction he ran during one of his well-organized fun Shades of Death rides. I was stuck on my Mobys and he said bring 'em up-we'll sort them out. Spent a half day in his freezing shed and he had never met me before. I bought six of his ho

Well I certainly agree with Rob about vintage scooters. And I think Lar is right about vibration, my wife says the more the better, and that's why she's not happy with her Honda four stroke made in China Metro, smooth as butter. I suspect old age is the reason we lean towards toilet bowls, a fat old fart like me looks stupid on a ped.
Jerry Franek — 5 years ago
Aw hell, Don, nobody loves Lar more than me, I still remember how he helped me out on my first ped. It was a Moby and I'll never forgive him for that. Unless you're riding dubs ( not legal in NJ on a ped) anything over 50cc on a toilet bowl is like a V8 in a VW.Lar should have stayed in the closet about his scooter sickness.

I'm a well-known (actually infamous) fan of Larry. But I suspect he's too much influenced by the Hershey kid Rob on overpowered toilets. I ride a 50 cc two stroke Yamaha Vino (today to the library as there is no Duke basketball tonight) and it's a super fine 42 mph machine. I say nobody needs a stinkin' 125-150cc tiny wheeled Toto. Never thought I'd say it but... "don

Brandon-- you're doing a fine job and nicely documented also. I bet a lot of us are enjoying your post. Good on you, ride safely, and I bet this is just the first of many more. Glad you are here.

The ODO and dipstick were the only things that worked on my Mobys.
Jerry Franek — 5 years ago
Oh crap, I meant I reversed the wheel actually. Which moved the drive unit from port to starboard side of the Derbi which caused the odo to run down. One too many cream ales I guess.
Jerry Franek — 5 years ago
I one time reversed the front forks on the Derbi and my odometer ran backwards. No lie.

I think it's just that it's been 40 years since any of us seniors have seen a skinny woman.
