crazywayne: you might want to google for a website that devotes itself to clown porn, since you seem to like it so much.

Some of you guys are amazing.I just wanted to post something that might be helpful to anybody who can't get a carb to work by merely cleaning the jet. Some of you turned it into a BozoFest.I didn't say the pic was MY carb. The pic is just a pic of a similar carb from google images. I thought you could get the idea without me having to take the carb apart again and take some pics.

This problem had nothing to do with the float. Here's a pic of a needle & clip.

I finally got this puch to run. Then I tried to start it a couple days later and it wouldn't start for anything. Fuel wouldn't flow into the carb and I couldn't figure out why. Finally I took it apart and used a different body and bowl. When I put the needle in, I noticed that the clip wasn't holding it right. I took the clip off and saw that it had a break in it, which you wou

I need that shop press!

I tried it on the garage floor, without a rag, and it chipped the concrete. Maybe I'll try it between 2 pieces of metal on the floor. If that doesn't work I guess I'll have to get myself a torch.

Thanks, but I don't have a vise.
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
I've tried pounding it with a sledgehammer, driving over it between a piece of plywood and a sheet of metal. Nothin worked. ???This is a PUCH with a ZA50 case.
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
I disconnected the black wire and now it sparks.
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
I can't get a spark out of this PUCH I just bought. I get 6v out of the yellow wire, but nothing from the blue wire.Shouldn't I be able to get a reading from the blue wire when I kick the pedal?Do I need to take the flywheel off and check the connection inside there, and maybe replace the interior coil?

Wise words, schmiddy. You were the only one who gave clear, convincing information; unlike some others who wistfully reminisced over what they thought they heard, or read, one time, long ago.
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
Yeah, I do suck at searching for shit on this site. Next time I'll contact you, pr.

While I appreciate Cleats' post and pics, his description was convoluted, which made it necessary to get more replies. Finally, Schmiddy cleared it up.And, I did a search first, but couldn't find anything that specifically identified the cylinder and there were no pics that I could find.

Finally, schmiddy has provided the correct answer. Props to schmiddy!

OK, here are the pics. What is it?
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
Finally, a reply that makes sense.

The round intake is smaller, so how would that give the engine more torque? Doesn't make any sense.
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
OK. As soon as I can get my 8x10 Ansel Adams camera and tripod out of storage, and process the film in my darkroom, I'll post a pic.
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
I still can't tell if mine is a high torque engine or not.
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
What restrictor are you referring to?
Dr Photo — 6 years ago
I'm confused. I see bigger fins on the engine in the first pic, and smaller fins on the 2nd one. Opposite of what you wrote.

Does anybody know how to identify a Maxi with the hi torque engine? I don't have the side covers. Can I tell by the VIN or the color? I've never seen one that wasn't burgundy.

Exactly. The tank was leaking.I think the guy is dyslexic. It's probably a '76 and he switched it around to get '67.
Dr Photo — 7 years ago
I bought this from a guy that claimed it' a 1967. It doesn't exactly look like the '67's I've seen. Anybody know what year and model it is?The frame near the rear axle looks different.I might want to add a top tank like I've seen in the photo forum. Does anybody have any experience with adding a tank?I know the lawnmower tank the guy added looks dorky.

If the flywheel/magneto can provide enough voltage to the lighting coil to light the headlight, why wouldn't it provide the same voltage to the internal ignition coil? Of course it would. So, the only difference is the coil. Cleaning the cam and the flywheel would have no effect. I don't know if the points could affect it.

I just bought this '78 PUCH Maxi. I saw it spark before I bought it, but when I tried it at home it sometimes had no spark and other times weak spark. I measured voltage across the blue wire to ground, and only got around 4 volts when I measured AC volts. The headlight will light up though. So I guess that tells me that the lighting coil is OK, but maybe the ignition coil is bad.Should I be g

I did that before, but I'll shoot another video and show what happens. The screw that tightens up the carb to the manifold is really hard to get a good grip on. It seems tight, but maybe that could be a source for an air leak.I still wonder if the coil could be causing some trouble. It's not the stock coil. Bosch. Looks like a Puch coil.

I just bought this thing a little while ago and got it running. It came with a non stock Dellorto carb and a Bosch coil. It shakes too much. I wonder if the coil could be doing it? Maybe timing is off?I thought all Motobecanes had variators. I can't tell if this is the stock pulley. The belt seems tight, but when I take off from a stop it feels like it's slipping.Check out the youtube:

I installed the bushings from Treats, and that solved the problem. Very easy fix. Thanks Maciek and Moped Army!
