I've heard he's a scrawnier version of me. But apparently it's like a 7/10 match physically, but a 10/10 match personality wise.Clearly we must fight and one of us must devour the other's still-beating heart to gain their courage.

Too much oil in the mix could be gunking stuff up. Check the electrical system and bulbs and such, I had a lot of problems with wires grounding when they weren't supposed to. Electrical problems for Mobys are pretty common. Make sure no wires are stripped or exposed and rubbing against metal parts.

Anyone that knows stock Motobecane Sebrings - Replaced the Transmission Oil, but it sounds like something is janky in the transmission. It's really knocky, sounds like a woodchipper to me. If you've got/had a stock Sebring, can you confirm whether it should sound like that? I'll try to take a video tonight.Cheers,-Bob

Success! The muffler repair adhesive from pep boys in the large threads kept the seal tight and prevented vibration, and a new nut/locking washer kept the back end on, didn't even need loctite for it.Thanks for the suggestions matthew and olympian.

I ended up sealing the larger thread with a faux-weld adhesive designed for exhaust temperatures, and using a new nut and lock washer for the muffler side.Everything should set in the next few hours, and I'll test it all out tomorrow morning.

Heat from the running motor is causing two threaded bits of my exhaust to expand and vibrate loose. I want to use a threading compound like loctite to prevent this from happening, as having my exhaust fall off at 35mph is not my cup of tea.The issue here, is that it is not just vibration that is the culprit, but heat as well. From what I've read about loctite, the tough red variant is designe

1979 Tomos A3, there's lots of crud in the tank. What's the best way to clean an attached tank without hurting it? Let me know specific cleaning products you use and such. Thanks in advance!-Bob

Here is a post I made about a year ago when I last took the moped apart. It contains a ton of photos, and as such, takes a long time to load. Open it in a seperate window, and be prepared to wait about 2 mins for it to load.http://www.mopedarmy.com/forums/discuss/6/65492/65492/Cheers!-Bob

Already took apart the carb and thoroughly cleaned it. Two things came to mind after I finished:First, the fuel petcock had been leaking from like, since I bought the ped. When I took the petcock apart, I found that the rubber gasket on the inside of the petcock with the little holes in it for the different settings of the petcock (open, closed, reserve) was in the process of disintegrating. I scr

Heya folks. It's Bob from Pittsburgh, back again after many months of being out of town.Right before I left to take a semester away from the Burgh, my Moped had some engine issues. I took it apart and try to fix it, but to no avail, and now I'm reaching out to the Moped Army for some help.I can't find a single repair shop for Mopeds in Pittsburgh, and I know I don't have the ex

Okay, this is my first post with pictures hosted at imageshack, but assuming it works...I own a 1979 Tomos, of unsure model. VIN 217954 if you care. After owning it for a couple of weeks, and feeling out how it felt to ride, and what seemed wrong with it, I decided to break it open and clean out the carb. And for kicks, open up the piston housing and check it out too.I found a few inconsistiencies,

I bought a 79 Tomos that had been sitting in a guys garage for nearly a decade. Everything was pretty much original, though worn, to the bike as it came when it was purchased. (27 year old spark plugs... which still worked.)When I purchased it, one of the brakes squealed a little bit, but then it got caught outside in about 5-10 minutes of rain, and afterward and ever since, both brakes squeal a L

It's not impossible. I figure once every 2-3 months on average, someone within driving distance of me sells a good titled/title-able ped for under 300.The trick is waiting and checking the forums and craigslist every day.One thing, your post stated "runs with no problems"Even mopeds that run like candy when you buy them can have a problem a week later, especially if you're a ne

Hehe, I noticed that it wasn't running well in your first post. Which definitely makes it a 1979 A3. You probably never saw me riding it because it spent a lot of time in garages being worked on. =)Still, I have to say that my Tomos made me love mopeds, mechanical problems and all. No matter what went wrong with the darn thing, it was just another project for the next weekend, and a chance to

Hey folks, I had a really nice dude forward me this link because he thought it might be mine. From the photos, there are a number of features which make me rule that out, and if Jeff and Ben say they know this fellow, I'm absolutely inclined to believe it's just a freaky coincidence.*So, I'm very sure this is NOT my stolen A3.*Thanks for the forwards though, I'm glad people are

I need a new/used/working fuel petcock for a 1979 Tomos A3. The one I currently have leaks like a sieve, and in the event that I can't repair it, I'd like to have a spare on hand.As long as its clean, and DOES NOT LEAK, thats fine. Doesn't need to be new. I'd buy direct from someone on the site, or if you can direct me to an online site that has them for a reasonable price.Post
