Yellow MotobecaneBlue MotobecaneYellow JC Penney PintoBrown Tomos BulletI am sadly parting with the entirety of my moped collection. I have owned these for 10-15 years but the reality is that I haven't touched them for 2-3. Need to make room in the garage and looking to sell them to someone who will appreciate them. All are essentially complete, though all will require some amount of TLC to ge

Ok, I think I have sent replies to all the PMs and e-mails received.I'm interested in hearing what everyone thinks is a fair price for the nicer, more complete bikes that I have several people asking about. I have been out of the market for a while and am feeling a bit out of touch. Thoughts?

Thanks for all the responses folks. I have a lot of people interested in parts, but for the items that are/were original to the full mopeds I'm selling, I'm going to reserve them in case the buyer wants them. I'll get back to all the PMs specifically and I'll add notes in the pictures.

So here's the deal: back in my college days I collected a few mopeds and a bunch of parts. Back then I had lots of time to play with them, fix them, tune them, etc. Now I have two kids and all this stuff has mostly been collecting dust in my garage. No sense in them just taking up space at my place when others could be using them.Without getting too far in to the details, just check out th

I'll be putting up individual posts (with pictures) of the items in the coming days. Keep an eye out.

I have a really nice lime green Maxi I'm willing to sell.I also have a ton of Puch parts I need to get rid of, including a couple bikes that need rehabilitation. One aqua Maxi has five star rims and is quite nice. The 2-speed motor doesn't work so hot, though.I also have a JC Penney Pinto I'm willing to reluctantly sell. I have rebuilt the engine and upgraded it a bit, though it co

I'm having the same problem with my 50cc TCCD, but haven't done a whole lot of tuning yet. Still have lots of things to try, but if I'm going up any sort of incline at all or if I'm riding into the wind, it won't even get up to speed.Once it does, though, it hits 40 pretty easily.

If you can manage to heat just the bearing and not the crank, heating will help, but they're both steel so they'll both expand the same.If you get desperate, try one of these with a hammer:!http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/713ZZBQNQDL.gif!Obviously it's not the best way to do it, but if all else fails . . .Good luck though, and keep us updated when you find a good method. Would anybody be so kind as to post a picture of the "bump"?I looked at mine but found no bump to shave off . . .

I know I've seen a picture of all the different spring options laid out together, but I can't find it. Anybody have it or know where it is?
Carl M — 15 years ago
Yeah, I'm using an aftermarket -- I thought that's what everyone was talking about. The whole two turns out from all the way in only applies with different springs though, ay?Anybody care to describe how the perfectly tuned clutch performs?
Carl M — 15 years ago
Yes, I'm not expecting a lot of torque . . . but I need just a little.I won't mind if it can't fly up hills or win drag races, but when it takes thirty seconds or so to get up to speed on a flat surface? That's a bit much . . .
Carl M — 15 years ago
Good to know.So do you assume that there won't be any significant deflection of the crank while it's turning at full speed?
Carl M — 15 years ago
I'm currently working on getting my clutch tuned . . . getting real pissed about what a pain it is to get it in and out to make adjustments . . .I've read the suggestion before to turn the screws all the way in and then out 720 degrees, but I still don't understand what people are saying is "all the way in."On my clutch, the screw is a set screw, so you could theoretically

Oh, I also have a high-compression head installed, and my top speed is reaching just over 40mph.
Carl M — 15 years ago
So I installed this 50cc TCCD on my Pinto, paired with a tecno boss exhaust and a 14mm bing carb and intake. The top speed looks like it's right where I want it, but the low end is pretty terrible.I used two base gaskets on the cylinder to make sure I wouldn't have a problem with the piston hitting the head the way people say TCCD's are prone to do, and I'm wondering if it

I have the springs that came with the clutch, which is the three-shoe that treats sells. I'm running ATF type F oil, filled to the fill-hole.I have no idea what you mean by the bump . . .
Carl M — 15 years ago
So I took my Pinto with it's newly rebuilt engine out for the first time this weekend, and I definitely don't have the clutch tuned right. When I assembled the engine, I wasn't sure where to set the springs on the three-shoe clutch I got, so I sort of guessed at a point where the set screws would be a little under flush with the edge of the clutch and tried to just get them all match

I don't understand the advantage of doing 12v. What do you gain?

Is the float adjusted properly?Perhaps it's cutting off the flow before the float bowl is full.
Carl M — 15 years ago
Throw some loctite on the crankshaft taper if you're having problems with slipping.
Carl M — 15 years ago
I just installed the same setup - 50 cc TCCD kit and a high compression head.I used one base gasket and one head gasket, and it looked like there was enough clearance when I put it together. When I first cranked the engine to try to start it, however, it sounded like the piston was hitting the head.I stopped there and plan to take it apart and add another base gasket when I get the chance.I'm

But what would happen to the clutch if using fluids other than type F?Would it physically hurt the clutch?Would the clutch work as well?
Carl M — 15 years ago
I noticed a lack of threads on mine too . . . AFTER I installed it.I really hope the springs are adjusted well, because I don't want to have to deal with taking that thing off . . .

I'm within a couple days of having all the za-50 bearings in stock (and shims and seals too), and I think you'll be happy with the prices . . . http://www.carlofet.com They're not posted yet, but they will be soon.

As mcgregor mentioned, you can't compress water like you can compress air.If air is pressurized in a container, it compresses. When the container breaks, the air decompresses rapidly, releasing a bunch of energy (like the sound of a balloon popping). That energy also sends stuff flying, and that's what hurts you. When water is pressurized in a container, it just pushes out on the walls

What about crankshafts?I'm rebuilding both engines at the moment. The odometer on my Pinto reads in the 3000's, and the crankshaft looks fine, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for, especially if I plan to kit it.I haven't taken apart my good ZA50 yet, but check out the crank from my crappy za50: http://www.mopedarmy.com/forums/discuss/1/464878/464878/Even after all th

What kind of speeds do you kit with just the pipe and 15mm bing?
Carl M — 15 years ago
So I'm going to be putting a kit on my Pinto and on my Maxi MKII.I'm looking for a cheaper one to use, and trying to decide between these three:65cc Metrakit50cc TCCD70cc TCCDI'm not looking to get crazy speeds - if I can regularly cruise at 40mph I'd be happy. Any power beyond that I'd gear for the lowend.I have a 14mm bing and a 15mm bing - both with matching intakes.I&
