Let me know if you get an answer Ralph. My Puch is doing the same thing.I just replaced the cylinder and piston with a one ring Puch made version. I also added the Biturbo pipe. Ped goes 37 mph now but has no low end what so ever.Still running stock carburetor.

How do you engine rebuilders figure the end clearances for the ZA50 Puch engine assuming you do not own the special tools that the manual calls for?

I have two Snap-on ratchet types and an old Sears flex bar type (just like the Park one in the photo) The Sears type is all you need for working on a moped. My smaller Snap-On is in inch pounds but the scale starts at 40. Are you sure you have to measure down to five inch pounds? It takes more than five inch pounds of torque to unscrew a lightbulb!

Try lowering the clip on the needle valve one slot and see if it helps. It may be starving for fuel when you get into the secondary circuit of the carburetor.

Just because you can see the float needle move up and down doesn't necessarily mean the passage is clear. You need to dismantle the carburetor completely and give it a thorough cleaning. Those little Bing carburetors are the simplest things in the world to work on. They're practically idiot proof. Just be careful when removing the two screws on the top where the cable goes in. There is a

You may have a blown crankshaft seal. Ford type F fluid is often called for because it's compatible with more types of the older seal material than the Dextron lll. It may be able to run at low speed but when you get enough rpms up the vacuum the piston pulls may be sucking air from the transmission case or worse ATF. If the seal is real bad it could be allowing fuel/air mixture through into

It's sucking air through the crack in the case where the bearing was stuck.

Chainsaw dealers sell little bottles of two stroke oil just right for carrying with you,They are meant to be mixed with one gallon of gas for approx 40:1 ratio.Best mixing cup made is Ratio Rite. It shows the fuel amount in gallons and all you do is pour oil into the cup up to the ratio you want for that amount of gas. It's a true no-brainer.TC

Very seldom will you get a bearing that is exactly the same as the one you are replacing.Although tolerances are tight they're not perfect. The shims allow for end play on the shafts, to help align gears, etc.Not enough end play and you end up with a shaft boring it's way through the case, if it will turn at all. Too much play and you get lateral movement which can cause wear in meshing

I just went through the same thing. I had to drain the transmission fluid, open the side case (right side sitting on bike)take a long pair of needle nose pliers and grab the cable (you'll need a good light to see it. Then take the cable end off the cable and screw it in place. When taking the thing apart the book warns you not to take off that lower ferrule. I guess this is why.

Hi,I'm looking for the longer pedal shaft with the sprocket and the crank arms for a two speed Puch. The shaft arm on these stick out about 2 inches from the outer face of the sprocket as opposed to the one speed where the crank comes flush to the sprocket.ThanksTC

Wire the two horn leads together. I just spent a week tracing out the wires on my Puch to solve a no spark situation.I put in points, condenser, coil, plug cap, coil wire. I tried another coil from a running bike, then the ignition from the running bike. Still nothing. After staring at the schematic for a while I noticed the ground for the ignition coil was through the horn (which was missing).Jumped t
