knew a lot more about mopeds than I do!A few of the forum members have been patiently advising me in in the proper methods of squeezing the last few ounces of umph from the 1978 Puch Maxi that a Christian brother gave me last summer. With the exception of the Indian and Derbi mopeds I sold in my shop in the early 80s (and they weren't really personal bikes) the Puch is the least (by far) hors

Thanks to all for their input, I appreciate it.The 12mm Bing is gone so I'll have to make do with the 14mm Bing.I do have the 14mm intake with the rectangular port end.Obviously (going by those who have done it and got benefits) drilling additional holes in the balls helps but I'm trying to get an understanding of how that helps when ALL exhaust gas must enter and leave through the two

I’ve put about 130 miles on the 1978 Puch Maxi Luxe I was given earlier this year.On level ground it had no problem running 30-31 MPH (GPS).It started with a ¼ kick and would sit and idle at about 1,350 RPM (set with a General Technologies Corp TA100 Smartach+) as long as I needed it to.I suspect the bike was originally a 1.5 HP model but has been modified prior to it being given to me.I do know

1982, though I'm not sure of what month. The President and Vice President (he worked 43 years at Murray) are coming within the hour to pick up the 1982 I sold them.It will be going in the Society's museum.

As the OP I am posting a final update on the disposition of the1982 Murray Puch.A couple group pictures of Bill (Murray) and Winnie (the Puch) before they are are separated.Bill (Murray) pretty much as I brought him home.I was going to detail him out like I did to Winnie (the Puch) but he'll be leaving the shop tomorrow to never return. After a pretty thorough examination there's absolut

As a new Moped Army member I'm not sure it's considered proper forum etiquette to hijack my own thread in an attempt get it back to the original topic.I certainly wouldn't want to detract from the importance and relevance of the socioeconomic scholars' verbosity. So at the potential risk of being considered impolite I'll feebly post something relevant to the original topic

After a couple of attempts I was able to get with the owner and he opened up the showroom and let me take a look at it.It's a 1982 with currently 1.4 miles on the odometer. It has the 1.5 HP E50.This is what I was told about the bike and at this point I can't verify if it's all true.(I can only share as true that which I actually saw.)The bike is supposedly the last Murray Puch that

I occasionally go by a used car dealership in a small town close to me.He has an outdoor lot and across the street he has an old dealership building where he has some of his vintage cars stored.I happened to get stopped at the light by the old dealership building and glanced over at the showroom to see what he had on display this week.Peeking out from a wall into the big window was the front half

Going through some old boxes in the shop and I came across these two Indian moped manuals and special service tools I had from the early 80s when I sold Indian mopeds in my motorcycle shop. The Indian Service Manual is for the AMI-50 Chief and the AMI-502S models and it has 51 pages of data. The Indian Assembly & Preparation Manual is for the AMI-50 Chief and it has seven pages of data. The cove

Thanks for the input.I was pretty sure it wasn't the drive or cable and you guys have confirmed that.I didn't mention it, and should have it the needle is curved now.Strange since I know it's not set outside in the last 21+ years.CheersH K

I was given a 1978 Puch Maxi Luxe a few months ago that had sat for well over 20 years.I finally got around to getting it running and cleaned up.The first few times I rode it the speedometer was working fine. However, now it doesn't drop back to zero when I stop, usually stopping about 5 MPH.It will usually eventually drop back to zero after I shut off the bike.I'm thinking it's the

Thanks to all for their input.I figured out what the deal was with the residue under the current 2HP sticker.Apparently the original owner "upgraded" for more power by replacing the original sticker (whatever it was) with a 2HP sticker and didn't bother to remove the original sticker residue.Along with the non-original Lemmi stickers the 2HP sticker and all of their residue has be

After having two motorcycle shops and a "number" of motorcycles in my 73 years I ended 54 years of motorcycle riding last fall when I sold my last bike (a 2017 Kawasaki Z1000).In June of this year a great friend and Christian brother gave me a 1978 Puch Maxi Luxe High torque 2 HP that he had bought over 21 years ago and had never started it.He had bought it from a guy who had bought it
