So I’ve been rehabbing an old Moby with its original AV7. The engine’s bottom end was completely stuck. Yesterday, I started reassembling the case. I purchased new bearings, seals and an Airsal stuffed crank.I test fit everything using plastic mock-up bearings and found there’s about .80mm of side play with the cases at spec torque w/ gasket installed. You can rattle it around. That’s quite a

Inspection of your points can tell you about your capacitor. If everything is right the wear is equal. If capacitance isn’t right, material from 1 point will collect in the other leaving a hill and a divot. If capacitance is too high, material will transfer from the stationary to movable; too low and material will transfer from movable to stationary.

I didn’t read everybody else’s comments so I apologize if I’m repeating. To test a capacitor, set a VOM to resistance, Hold one lead to each terminal or terminal and case for several seconds (to charge the capacitor using the battery in the meter). Remove the leads from the terminals and, change the meter to measure DC voltage, reapply the leads but in the opposite polarity. the measured volt

This is how I found mine.

According to the sketch I made when I took mine apart, your missing a single white wire on the back, left side of the switch. I haven’t taken the time to look at how it works, assuming it’s like the posi in a Plymouth…it just does.

Thanks guys, it seemed too simple to bother snapping a picture. I managed to install all of them incorrectly apparently. When I picked it up all the springs jettisoned in different directions. Found 4 of 5 so far.BTW, sorry Bob, didn’t mean to jack you thread!

I’m working in rehabbing a machine very similar to yours. You’re a bit ahead of me. I took my headlamp apart a few days ago. I made a sketch of the wires that I don’t have in front of me. I recall one of the whites being on a different terminal. I think the switch’s double tab had the 2 wires sharing spade; one of the single whites was on the back. That would conflict with the diagram but I

I’m in the same situation, fortunately only broke 1 of them. That tap is $125. at Grainger but you can get one on Amazon and a suitable pilot drill for under $20.Canceled that order, thanks for the above link Garelli Master

I know it’s an older thread but perhaps it will help the next person. I just replaced the mounts without buying the above linked tool. Here’s how… Place a 1-1/4” 12 point socket on the outside, around the bushing.. A 15/16” socket on the inside against the bushing. Run a piece of 5/16” threaded rod thru the setup. Finish both ends with a couple of heavy washers and nuts. Tighten either nut

This pile is left from a package deal, I used a few small parts to rehab another machine. I’m keeping the engine. Aside from a few nuts and bolts it’s a roller.Anybody around Detroit western suburbs want any or all of it, come get it for free. Otherwise, it’s going in the trash on Tuesday.

Thanks for your response. I saw a “taco rating” blurb on treatland someone had posted about the bearings. Apparently, if you’ve got a particular rear axle, both bearings are the same. That’s what I’ve got.
Douglas Mackinnon — 7 weeks ago
The service literature and Treatland reference 2 different sized bearings for the rear wheel. 1- 30mm x 10mm and another @ 26 x 10. Both mine measure to be identical at 30mm O.D. Does anybody know if this changed with the last years of production or possibly my rear rim is not original?

I’d like to purchase the rear foot pegs and drive chain. Please contact me to negotiate.

Thanks for chiming in. I haven’t officially bought any of them yet. I did determine that the piston isn’t stuck in the Moby without a plug installed. I found out about the square hole on the RH side that turns the engine over. I gently moved the piston up and down just a tad. There looks to be a lot of Schmutz in the cylinder so I don’t want to make it worse. Looking forward to some negotiat

Thanks for your history lesson on the roadrunner. That one doesn’t seem very desirable but appears to be in the best condition. The Moby seems like it has potential as a long term project as it’s very complete aside from whatever’s going on inside the open cylinders that I can’t see spark plug threads thru the gunk. The Pacer is rusty, the rims probably aren’t roadworthyDude wanted to trade my t

I just discovered the word pacer was at one time painted in the side of the tank. . Excuse my ignorance is that the brand or model?

Hello Army, i met an interesting fellow today in my neighborhood who wants to sell or trade me 3 mopeds from his back yard heap. I must admit, I’m more of a vintage scooter guy but I’m considering taking the plunge. 2 are Motobecane, (I had never actually seen one before today). 1 is a 1980 Moby, another is similar but looks to be a lower grade machine; no spedo or rear suspension and says “Ro

Add another wire between the neutral from your power supply to 1 side of the capacitor, keep the brown wire on the other terminal. Guessing the purple one represents 1 of the many speeds available. Get it off the capacitor.

Like Brian said, just registration stickers here in Michigan but my wife bought me this for Christmas last year. My official sticker is off to the side

The discussion was leaning toward silver soldering of dissimilar metals. Silver solder has melting points of 1150-1650f depending on content.Soft solder won’t stick to steel any better than it sticks to wood.
Douglas Mackinnon — 6 months ago
Prove me wrong by making it work for him, that tank is probably FUBAR anyways but I can appreciate his effort. Very unlikely you or anybody else is going to seal copper to steel with a handful of aluminum rivets in the mix which would melt well before the solder. And, of course, make it all fuel tight. The act of heating that tank will likely open more holes in the steel anyways. Maybe you can

Prove me wrong by making it work with solder. Maybe you use on if your shampoo bottle contraptions.
Douglas Mackinnon — 6 months ago
I’m afraid the gaps between the 2 metals are too large for capillary action to draw solder in. Especially at the bottom. Steel on steel with arc welder is your only hope.

Did you take the emulsion tube out of the carb to clean. Push it down and out from the needle slide, there’s half a dozen or so holes in it. How about the vacuum line between the reed block and petcock? You shouldn’t need it for the prime and reserve positions but don’t let suck air in at the reed side ever.Flammable stuff and an exposed spark plug can be dangerous…

There’s a 1983 with 0.5 miles for sale asking $1,700. Apparently it was won it a raffle by an older gentleman and ended up at his estate sale. It’s visible on Suzuki FA forum on Facebook. You gotta be a member to see it.

If you want one bad enough, find me something cool to trade. I’ve got the carb apart and fuel tank split pending a new gasket. Otherwise complete and clean.1 guy bought out the worlds stock of OEM parts and has EVERYTHING. It needs about $65. When I spoke to him 2 years ago.

I was about to order parts for my trash picked 1950 Martin outboard when I fell for a dilapidated scooter. Now the boat motor just sits alone like Jealous a red headed step kid. I’m sure you can find a forum for Neptune enthusiasts.

Did the boat sink?

How about those leg shields?I’d start negotiations at $50 if they’re cream color.

An update on the sealant I recommended earlier in the thread…Unfortunately, the JB plastic bonder has failed. I woke up yesterday morning to the smell of gasoline in the house. My scooter which was in the garage was surrounded by a gas puddle. The sealant let loose from the plastic tank. Lasted about 26 months. 🥲.Amazingly I just found a 1980 NOS tank with side fuel level guage on EBay.
