Oh my god, I didn't see the "/s" and you got me sooo good! I'm jealous of the fab skills, but that thing is a death trap! What a legend, RIP.

Hey everybody,Thanks to everyone that offered advice! Thanks Mike for recommending I contact Rebel Moby. I did, and he's given me some sage advice already including a suggestion for modding the exhaust. Also, thanks Jesse. You've been very helpful in this thread, as well as many older threads I've found on the Moby 7! I've looked around online and posted in the buy/sell forum an

I appreciate the honesty, and Andyrew's .02. Frankly, several people have said the same thing in the forum discussions about this model that I've read so far.I know it's far from the best moped, but it was the only one I could find for less than $1K at the time. Also, I was looking for a Motobecane because that's what my parents used to ride in their youth in France. Over the l

So out of your 2 options, I would have to say maybe the anemic one. Not starting from a dead stop, I still noticed it gradually losing power on long uphills. I pulled the engine and dismantled the whole bike this weekend so I can check gaskets, etc. I still haven't pulled apart the engine, but assume it will need a new set. So in short, maybe compression is also an issue. I also assume that s

Thanks for the suggestions! Is my intake (13mm) the same OD as the 15mm? I'm just thinking maybe I could get a professional to bore it out or fabricate one based on mine. I'll look into the sprocket as well. Thanks for the kit and timing suggestion too. Is there a reason you say the 70cc kit? Is it preferrable over the 75cc? Is the 50cc kit practically the same as stock? To you, and everyo

Damn, that sucks to hear. I guess the 30mph intakes are in high demand and low supply. I’m not very familiar with the 14/12 carb. Is it somehow larger than the 15/15? Because everything I’ve read say the 15/15 can fit under the side covers, albeit a tight fit.And thanks, I was already referred to Rebel Moby on a post in the performance forum. Time to reach out now

I actually just took the bike apart today, and measured it. The OD is 19mm which I think is the same as the 30mph version, so I guess it might fit an sha 15/15.I measured the ID at 12mm, but reading the wiki it’s actually a 13mm. Would the smaller ID mean I just wouldn’t get the full performance out of the carb? Our could it create turbulent flow issues? Everything I’ve read about putting an sha

Yeah I really don’t see why they made the intake that way, just good old French engineering I guess. I think the main thing is that it’s a tight fit and a shorty or bendy intake wouldn’t fit. I suppose if I can’t find a 30mph version I could ask a machine shop fabricate something, might be pricey though

Yeah, mine is a B too. I don’t expect greatness really. I just want to ride it to work, which is basically uphill the whole way. Plus my carb is leaky so if I can find the 30mph intake and put on a 15/15 sha it would be 2 birds with one stone.

So it’s mostly an av7 (I guess the model 7 doesn’t share all the same parts as a regular av7). But the intake is weird because the engine is non-variated and attached to the frame with no spring (I don’t really know how to explain it better, sorry), and the intake itself is mounted to the same bracket holding the engine on the motor mounts. Here’s a pic of the intake on my bike, and The link is wha

Yeah, those are all the things I was thinking of potentially doing, although I'm not sure what you mean by a "standard av7 pipe". Can you elaborate? The issue has been trying to find the 15mm intake, but I just posted in buy/sell so we'll see if I get any bites. Also, what cylinder kits would you recommend? Would a 50cc kit (to stay legal) be better than stock, or would I have t

Hey everyone,I'm new to mopeds and the forum. I could use a bit more juice for my Motobecane 7. Currently it struggles up hills, so I'm looking to swap the Gurtner carb for an SHA 15/15. To do that, it seems I need to find the 15mm intake first. These bikes have a weird intake so there doesn't seem to be any aftermarket options. Let me know if you've got one you're willing

I hadn't seen Fred's guide yet, that's helpful. I've been hankering to disassemble it and check on some of those things (gaskets, good cleaning of the carb, exhaust etc.), but obviously a little nervous to start. I was happy enough that it ran when I bought it (my friends wasn't as lucky with his 50 series), but I guess I'll have to bite the bullet eventually. And I do

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I read the wiki on it. I’ve done forum searches on it too, but most of what I’ve found has been people suggesting to just sell the 7 and get something easier to mod or people who lucked out and have the 30mph version. I haven’t found an intake/carb solution yet, but I’ll keep looking. I just joined Moped Army today so I haven’t tried the buy/sell yet either, but that’s a

Hey everyone,I'm new to mopeds, and the community in general. A friend got a 50 series, and it was such a blast to ride around that another friend got a Honda Express 2 and I got a 1978 Moby 7 (25mph version) so we can cruise around town.I have some experience working on cars (not much engine work though), but this whole 2 stroke engine deal is new to me so bear with me. I've read up on
