I did read the Fred's guide and while I am cleaning the carb as discribed I will check the jet. After cleaning I will reinstall the carb and test it. Your correct about modifing anything before I find the root cause of the problem. Thanks, G
Ok, I will take off the carb and check out the jet to see if it is clear, if so I will try to jet it up a size. Thanks.
So this is a normal top speed because it is a 1hp. I thought that there was something wrong because when I have the throttle fully open the engine loses some power, then when I close it a little it has more power.
My 1978 Puch newport will barely do 20 mph? I tried to adjust the timing with no improvement. How can I make this thing go faster?
The speeedo reads 1042 miles
I drained the fluid, which looked good and seemed like enough fluid, replaced the fluid to the proper level and still have the same noise? Any other sugestions? greg
I found this in the forum. This is the procedure that I am going to try. There are three bolts: one on the bottom for draining, one on the side in the middle for checking the level, and one on top for filling. First, take it out for a 10-15 minute ride to warm up the trans. After, unscrew/bolt the three bolts/screws and let the fluid completely drain. When it does, bolt on the bottom screw and add

I haven't tried to change that fluid as of yet, I am still trying to determine the specific problem. When and if I do, I will respond and let you know. greg
I will check the level of the trans fluid and the color. I was thinking that the noise might be a connecting rod bearing. Have you had experience with a noise like this from trans fluid being low or dirty? Greg
I am hearing a loud rattle noise after reaching about 10 mph. the bike runs smooth at idle and low speed, but after reaching 10 mph the noise starts and no more power.
Tomos A3 bushing 10mm id, 14mmod and 13mm length. Where can I find one?
Tomos A3 starts great and runs smooth, but when I give it gas and the engine starts to rev, I hear a loud rattle from the engine. Is this the crank shaft bearing? It this a difficult job?
am I checking for excessive play between the piston and the rod or the rod and the crank. what is the normal clearance like? Lastly where would you recommend I get replacement parts if I do need them. Thanks, greg
I am re-listing under the repair formun. I have a 1989 tomos bullet with 1042miles. I have cleared and cleaned the fuel system, and changed the transfluid(which looked good and at the correct level. The bike starts fine and idles smooth, when I start to drive it will go the about 10mph and then start knocking like crazy and no more acceleration. The engine also knocks to a stop when I shut it down
