Lots of people here have used pietcards (including me on a couple of bikes). You delete the points and the condenser, and use a pietcard CDI box, along with the points flywheel.

Have fun! You'll want to set your timing with a timing light fyi.

i’m pretty sure you need a different flywheel for that to work with an e50 and you don’t get to use the woodruff key to time it either. i don’t know if i’ve ever had one work well for me.

this cdi from DOS is much nicer then that pietcard unit.

and you can use a parmakit box with it, everyone’s favorite!

Ope yeah, I haven't used one on an e50, only V1s and morinis. Didn't realize the stock e50 flywheel didn't work with them.

Can anyone with the botanas or a pietcard post the resistance of their ignition coil?

ok it’s 224.5 ohms of resistance.

and what makes you say that andy? have you ran one of these botanas cdi units on a bike yet? if you have, please share your results and thoughts on it!

also i think it’s worth mentioning that timing a CDI without a keyway can be tricky for even advanced mechanics.

timing on a keyway is just so much easier for so many reasons.

I have it on a za50, I like it, much better then the treats cdi’s, like no complaints, buuuuttt, I prefer the Pietcard since it uses oem parts, how long will that flywheel hold up? How well are the stators cast (in my experience the answer is well, but oem stuff is always better).

I also always time with out the woodruff key so that’s not an issue for me, but you are correct that that isn’t as easy as a cdi intended to bolt on and use the stock position to time with the stator

My limited research and your chart of resistances is getting me closer

Curves are nice, that's an element for sure

But like so far I've got

Parmakit box works with a CDI coil no pickup

Italian Flag boxes work with CDI coil WITH pickup and current return wire

Pietcard works with stuff but they are more meant as stock replacements for models we never had so all of it is YMMV

HPI box works with fully isolated CDI coil no pickup, I'm hoping a regular Pietcard coil or even a Tomos stator would work for this. This is the only one where I am concerned about level of resistance of coil windings

Because spending more money once is always better than spending less money several times

HPI boxes don't break unless you're bad at electricity

Not crazy high, a little over 9k on my Pyramid reed setup and the Piston port is still being put together.

I haven't actually seen any chart on the curve of the Pietcard 2041 box. Anyone have one?

Oh and so I don't confuse anyone with my previous post, the coil/box did slap on my pyramid reed with the stock woodruff key position but interestingly enough my piston port motor had to be timed sans key. Im not entirely sure if my flywheel is stock tho on that bike (still new to Derbi, came kinda not all together).

Finding the timing mark is confusing with the 2041 box because it fires with retarted timing near idle for easy starting before advancing, so you have to mark it using a drill to get it running and then get the "true" fire point (where it fires most advanced, which is where HPI places their firing mark) revving it on the stand (edited)
