Has anyone used this? Does it still connect to the points or what i sad this and it just confused me
Lots of people here have used pietcards (including me on a couple of bikes). You delete the points and the condenser, and use a pietcard CDI box, along with the points flywheel.
Ok I’m going to get one then thanks
Have fun! You'll want to set your timing with a timing light fyi.
Ill give it a try
i’m pretty sure you need a different flywheel for that to work with an e50 and you don’t get to use the woodruff key to time it either. i don’t know if i’ve ever had one work well for me.
this cdi from DOS is much nicer then that pietcard unit.
https://www.doscycles.com/products/puch-botanas-12v-cdi-package?_pos=1&_sid=f6bb6f0c6&_ss=r
and you can use a parmakit box with it, everyone’s favorite!
O ok im glad you told me thanks for the info and link
Ope yeah, I haven't used one on an e50, only V1s and morinis. Didn't realize the stock e50 flywheel didn't work with them.
Good catch Adam. (edited)
Why wouldn't the stock flywheel work with them? I had not heard that before. But I have used one on a garelli and used that flywheel. Don't forget your cdi box for it when you buy that pickup. Get the box with the curve.

just read the reviews

This is correct, you do need to use a za50 flywheel, though I still much prefer the Pietcard set up over the treats/dos cdi
Can anyone with the botanas or a pietcard post the resistance of their ignition coil?
i’ll hit the botanas rn gimme 3-5 minutes
ok it’s 224.5 ohms of resistance.
and what makes you say that andy? have you ran one of these botanas cdi units on a bike yet? if you have, please share your results and thoughts on it!
also i think it’s worth mentioning that timing a CDI without a keyway can be tricky for even advanced mechanics.
timing on a keyway is just so much easier for so many reasons.
I used (the red counterclockwise one) on both my pyramid reed and piston port derbi. It’s literally a slap on setup with the stock flywheel key and works great with the 2041 box!

how high you revvin??

I'm collecting these measurements in this wiki page: https://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Coil_measurements
Where'd you take your measurements from (ex: red wire to stator plate)?
green to stator 224.5
here’s more
treats cdi
red to stator 236 ohms
tomos 4-pole
black to stator 320 ohms
Thanks! I added these and a bunch more I just took.

I have it on a za50, I like it, much better then the treats cdi’s, like no complaints, buuuuttt, I prefer the Pietcard since it uses oem parts, how long will that flywheel hold up? How well are the stators cast (in my experience the answer is well, but oem stuff is always better).
I also always time with out the woodruff key so that’s not an issue for me, but you are correct that that isn’t as easy as a cdi intended to bolt on and use the stock position to time with the stator
FYI I'm like 83% confident (I just thought of this today as I was working on my C2 fucking with boxes)
the Pietcard is a clone of the Ducati CDI that came on some Minarelli and maybe Morini engines
the ohmage checks out, so potentially there are multiple ducati stator and rotor combos that these are cloned off of
Oh wait nobody ohmed out a pietcard yet
Just measured a green pietcard coil, 3003/03. 327 ohms.
Interesting, I bet the Pietcard coils work well with Parmakit box
Probably. Coil resistance is only part of the story here of course, but it's in the same ballpark (hundreds of ohms) as multiple coils that do work well with the parmakit box.
My limited research and your chart of resistances is getting me closer
Curves are nice, that's an element for sure
But like so far I've got
Parmakit box works with a CDI coil no pickup
Italian Flag boxes work with CDI coil WITH pickup and current return wire
Pietcard works with stuff but they are more meant as stock replacements for models we never had so all of it is YMMV
And I hope to test this soon:
HPI box works with fully isolated CDI coil no pickup, I'm hoping a regular Pietcard coil or even a Tomos stator would work for this. This is the only one where I am concerned about level of resistance of coil windings

The Ducati coil has the double/backwards wrapped 'trigger coil' ?
The pietcard works with any triggered ignition box but they don't have as much wire on them as an OEM coil with separate trigger so they can be weak at low rpm.
I had it on my puch with a jog box for awhile.
I don't really see the point of running it with a HPI or parmakit box unless you just like spending money. For me, I'm always trying to do the trigger thing just because I can use the a3202/jog boxes for $10 instead of the special order 70+ dollar parmakit or whatever
Because spending more money once is always better than spending less money several times
HPI boxes don't break unless you're bad at electricity
Also, straight up I dont care about puchs
This is def for Italian/Spanish bikes

Not crazy high, a little over 9k on my Pyramid reed setup and the Piston port is still being put together.
I haven't actually seen any chart on the curve of the Pietcard 2041 box. Anyone have one?
Oh and so I don't confuse anyone with my previous post, the coil/box did slap on my pyramid reed with the stock woodruff key position but interestingly enough my piston port motor had to be timed sans key. Im not entirely sure if my flywheel is stock tho on that bike (still new to Derbi, came kinda not all together).
Finding the timing mark is confusing with the 2041 box because it fires with retarted timing near idle for easy starting before advancing, so you have to mark it using a drill to get it running and then get the "true" fire point (where it fires most advanced, which is where HPI places their firing mark) revving it on the stand (edited)
