Newbie performance question - Puch Maxi

roots to wings /

I'm not an engineer so I don't understand the nomographs and the hi-tech shit, but I have what is probably a stupid question. I've got a really nice 77 maxi 2hp that is completely bone stock original with less than 300 miles on it and very clean and I want to build a super-sleeper. I am thinking of putting a 70cc airsal with a bing 15 on it and running either a stock chrome pipe or one of those euro cigars (more of a performance pipe) and running 14x40 gearing on it and a nicely tuned clutch. I want to get to 0-40 in real hurry and stay there comfortably all day without feeling like I am winding the piss out of the thing. Will it work? I've got other bikes with kits and pipes but I wanted something that you can't tell is not stock that rips dicks without all the ornamentation of a big carb setup so I could even run the side panels if I wanted to. Ultimate sleeper?

-polini

-15mm bing

-stock derestricted air box

-mlm silent ninja

IMO

Re: Newbie performance question - Puch Maxi

^This. And also don't forget about the necessary CLAW 5mm aramid clutch shoes from Doscycles

Re: Newbie performance question - Puch Maxi

IMO those Homoet euro cigars are better sleeper pipes, they even come in chrome. Not a huge fan of silent ninja due to lack of pedal clearance, not sure if that's also an issue with the Homoets they have now.

But ya Polini looks stock if the side covers are on, stock fin pattern and everything, and comes with a Bing intake that positions it in the stock orientation

I did the tccd50 with promo pipe on the 350 dollar maxi I picked up last May. With 2 shoe stock clutch and dos blue springs she's doing 38 all day long. I'm not going higher than the tccd50 without a new crank.. I did rebuild the engine this winter. 14mm bing carb with 15mm intake, 1 ring needle leanest setting 2.20 atomizer and 74 jet and she's in the power band the whole time.

16t/45t gearing...

Yeah I forgot to mention them, although he mentioned that he has a nicely tuned clutch

Re: Newbie performance question - Puch Maxi

I mean, you probably need to start with the crank and work your way up from there. None of the mods above are great for a stock crank

Re: Newbie performance question - Puch Maxi

That's awesome, sorry for naysaying the tccd50 months ago, I've never had good luck with them myself but I have one on the shelf to go on a za50 and I'm excited to give it another go.

For my money, taller gears and a airsal get you the same accel and torque with the higher top speed on a stock crank, but I certainly understand the appeal of a smooth running 50.

Has anyone done the super sleeper with the stock chrome pipe? I realized after looking at the DMW blog that some "figuring" and welding would be required to make a stock puch chrome pipe run with a bigger header like the tecno chrome pipe and i'd need a wider diameter tube than what is in the stock pipe which would require some expertise. Probably cheaper to just wait for a treats sale and get the tecno chrome and reverse engineer it and have a welder blast out the 7 stock chrome pipes I have lying around OR run the DOS Botanas that I have mothballed. Anyone run the Botanas with a 65 or 70cc airsal?

100% on the homoet being the ultimate sleeper. Silent ninja pipe had no pedal issues on my Magnum frame. Tho I do feel like it was lacking in performance.
