Metrakit 65 puch Al piston in old iron kit.

I'm looking to revive an old cast iron metrakit and notice that DOS had the aluminum new style piston listed as fitting the old kits.

dos cycles- puch metra 65 piston

As always, dos is boss, just wondering if anyone has tried this and if there are any snags.

It's a lot cheaper than the genuine og piston listed on treats for 80$

I have both and can compare for ya when I get home.

they are copies of the originals, so as long as the bore diameter is correct then you should be OK. that being said, the quality of the new pistons is kinda doo doo, but got better over the years. that's why in the beginning of the re-pop alu mk65 we included an airsal piston. i think they are ok now though

Re: Metrakit 65 puch Al piston in old iron kit.

Ugh yeah that's a bummer, the old piston I think was a mahle and it was the best part of the kit.

I think I'll buy a os genuine piston just to put on the shelf either way, they are cheaper for some reason. I just didn't want to take it right to the overbore since it don't need it, and I don't even remember if mk65 are that good or if it was just like so easy to tune that we all blasted without knowing any better back in 2006. Maybe I should just leave it on the shelf and bask in the nostalgia....

Re: Metrakit 65 puch Al piston in old iron kit.

There is a 43.5 mm Barikit piston what fit Metrakit. Its actually made for some other bike but its much better quality than current one.

Thats for new cylinders, rings are chromed on it i think so not best combination for cast iron

Re: Metrakit 65 puch Al piston in old iron kit.

What will said. Been running mk65’s with the original pistons and the airsal ones with the same results. Those of cast iron kits are crazy fun though I must say, with a 19 phbg they rip low 50s all day and are a power house. Got one on a buddies pinto that was case matched for a polini and that shit is bonkers.

Re: Metrakit 65 puch Al piston in old iron kit.

Haha that was why I bought it I want to re-live riding around in flip flops and cut off shorts with no helmet circa 2006 and see if it's as good as I remember it being. I wonder if I still have a heavy chain and bike lock I can wear around my shoulder like a sash.

I remember building one probably around 2009 and lightly porting it and hitting 55 almost by accident on a stock crank.

I kind of want to buy the aluminum one too and run them back to back, Port map them, see what the magic is all about, probably won't, I barely have time to get one of them built and I don't even have a bike to put this on right now.

I loved my OG 65MK. That’s what started it all for me. That thing was a blast. I too would kinda like to build another bike with one to see if it’s as fun as I remember it being.

Forgot to bump this but I talked to Blake @dos cycles and he hooked me the fuck up as always.

I ended up buying the new mk aluminum, the og mk piston, a new 'gol' piston they have.

I'm gonna do a quick video compare and contrast between the kits. Do a quick port map and maybe build them both.

^sweet! this should be very interesting. I have a new build with the new metro alum to fire this spring, and a go iron mk65 to overbore and use in the future. Will be looking for your results and will be happy to share mine with the newer alum version

Re: Metrakit 65 puch Al piston in old iron kit.

Mk65 was a great kit. My bud used to run them and they were tough as nails. Put alot of miles on them. They weren't fast kits but had good torque. I had one I was gonna put on my magx but sold all my puch shit in one lot years ago.

Re: Metrakit 65 puch Al piston in old iron kit.

MK65s were great. Back when no one had a care in the world. Or knew how to tune a carb.

we need all of the info, give us all of the info.

Re: Metrakit 65 puch Al piston in old iron kit.

That's kind of why I pulled the trigger on the aluminum kit, it's been out for a couple years now with mixed reviews. I haven't seen anyone actually sit down and document what all is good, bad, and ugly about it.

So far I think it looks pretty good, the casting itself is a little bit boogery but the piston coming with it looks nice, and it has that same port layout as the OG mk65 so it should be a ripper.
