Pietcard for Garelli VIP/Ducati two wire changeover

I am building a Garelli single speed VIP. It has the Ducati two wire ignition and I am switching it over to the Pietcard/2013 box for CDI. I am getting low voltage from the internal ignition coil and the air gap between the coil and the coil seems pretty large. What should this be? A business card like a briggs and strat?

Yeah you might have the wrong coil if the air gap is way big. 2 layers of masking tape is my go-to, business card works too

dremel or drill the mounting bolts out on the pietcard coil to allow you to close the gap.

Make sure you use the pietcard ht coil with the 2013. It will last longer.

If your engine a horizontal or vertical cylinder? Horizontal garelli bikes are NOI engines, and the vertical cyl are the VIP. VIP engines came in a few speed transmission option, but never single speed. You should most likely have a 2 speed automatic if it is a VIP engine.

Fortunately this should not matter for what you are trying to set up. However you could make things a little easier and just get a vip 12v cdi ignition from moped division. I just saw all the bits you would need for sale on their site. You would just replace the whole plate with the new cdi plate and add in the cdi box they sell. Your current HT coil should work for the cdi.

Tangentially, Avanti made VIP clones, and they did produce a single speed version (the Avanti Mont). There's also the motor on the Monza, which looks like a VIP, but isn't (different crank), and is single speed.

I'm not sure what parts you're referring to here. I think you might mean the Avanti CDI setup, but I think that requires a different flywheel: https://www.mopeddivision.com/moped-make/avanti/electrical/nos-avanti-12-volt-40-watt-cdi-flywheel-stator-plate-5-wire/

Ive had a garelli gulp vert cylinder one speed. Precurser to the vip.
