Re: 'Stock' Av10 builds

I will write up a "beginners guide" just for AV10 modifications of stock pieces. The suggestion for searching and obtaining a previously enjoyed Motobecane or MBK AV10 rather than a knock off version is a very good idea. The fit and finish of the knockoffs seem to leave a lot to be desired and the low price lack of quality control gives a lot of porosity on the casings that can be problematic when reworking the engine. Also the previous enjoyed engine make sure you get the lower mounting brackets hardware with it because it is different to the AV7.

Similar to the AV7 mild porting, there is a lot of goodly power in the AV10 with the added advantage of reed valve to stretch the usable portion of the power band. Makes the sometimes desired ability to idle and have goodly high end power more of a reality... and the added bonus of reliability.

Need to be aware that later model stock pipes like the Z expansion pipe looks good but contains EU mandated restrictions for speed and sound.

Re: 'Stock' Av10 builds

The Leo pipes just have a funny baffle. There’s nothing inside of them, we cut one open a few months back.

Re: 'Stock' Av10 builds

That's good to know, do they need derestricted or do they run good as-is?

I just like the form factor, they are kinda racy looking but not obnoxious, like if you don't know what it is, it could be stock but ppl that know french bikes know what's up.

Re: 'Stock' Av10 builds

Haha, it's all good Graham.

I've been turning the basement in my new house into a small moped workshop so I can tinker. Garage is for the cars and motorcycles. My wife came downstairs the other day, looked at me, said "what the fuck?" then just turned around and went back upstairs. I don't think she realized just how much stuff I've been hoarding for the past 15 years since I've always just kept it all in my shop in brooklyn.

Can't wait to see your AV10 trickery.

Re: 'Stock' Av10 builds

If you run a 15mm or better carb then you need a exit that is at least 11mm so you have containment in the chamber body but not back pressures.

Good for you! I know guys that wouldn’t even bother trying to take on a house projects because they have “kids now”.

People gotta stop using your kids for laziness, they might disrupt your time but nothing u can’t manage

“I don’t do that stuff anymore because I have kids now”

Your opinion on this is moot.

Re: 'Stock' Av10 builds

Haha

Well, my update is that I got a bunch of parts from dos cycles (DOS IS BOSS!) and I made an unboxing video that I'm gonna post but I can't get it off my wife's phone.

I'm currently working a full time job, trying to be a good dad to 3 kids, plowing snow as a second job (long story!) And trying to keep all my snowblowers and truck running, I'm working on snowmobiles a lot this season, had to fix up my new one (carb boots, starter, exhaust, fix a couple little broken things) and doing brakes, electrical and skid redo on my vintage one. I am doing the paint on my TSM (slowly) and wiring it. My son and I are doing a little go kart project adapting hydraulic disc brakes from a 4 wheeler, making adjusting pedals and putting a keihin clone carb and pipe on the go kart and the 4 year old and I are rebuilding the pw50.

I was up, working, from like 5 am to 1 am yesterday, that's a bit excessive but life is fuckin awesome. Barely have enough time on this planet as it is. Gotta go hard 110%... Sleep when you're dead. Moby build is gonna be sick, I'll have it on the street by spring, with a foot of snow on the ground it's time to ride sleds!
