Leaving old ZA50 bearings

I've seen arguments both for and against replacing bearings, but whats the consensus? I'm doing seals and a new con rod, but can all the old bearings stay? They seem to be in good shape. Also, what shims am I gonna need for the crank float and end float? Been searching for a while and can't seem to find a source for those.

Consensus ?

How are we suppose to tell you what shape your bearings are actually in ?

Whether they are good or not , why take any chances ?

Why wouldn't you want a fully rebuilt set up ?

Would you buy a bike that was built with 40 year old bearings ?

But , maybe . (edited)

Re: Leaving old ZA50 bearings

I personally think puch builds the best za50. Don’t take it apart if it’s not broken. If you do replace them you have to do both the inner and outer race, shimming a 2piece bearing is important otherwise it will move around and then your clutch shimming gets whacky

No way you've been searching for awhile and didn't find it.

Deadped blog has everything you could ever want on ZA50 rebuild

There are plenty of za50 crank shimming and trans shimming threads.

You got that right but The best are the black face cobra engines that have real needle bearing cranks, Most stock cranks of other older versions za50s have bushings at both ends of rod with very small channel for oil mix to get into at the big end of con rod so can’t handle heat and Hi-Revs that well,

I got 2 za50s from white cobra bikes that are the greatest 2 speed auto moped engine ever made in my opinion, very free reving and go a bit faster given the same kit pipe combination to older types
